Jobless in Seattle
Current mood: good enough
Still looking for work....... seriously. What the fuck?!? OK, so at least the weather is nice and there are dirt jumps. Today a group of us loaded up the cars and had a little Dirt Jump road trip. OH YES. The first location was a project to get to. Slick muddy hills up and down to get to the jumps. We get there and the jumps are just as "greasy". Super slick and sketchy. Did we hit them, you bet we did! The run in was a long sweeping right hand turn. I worked on my "Tokyo Drift" for a while. Then on to location number two. Another drive and we arrive. We show up and find out that the locals have been hard at work digging. This place is sick! Lots of clean lines twisting and criss-crossing with each other. Everything is built into a hill, so as you get moving the jumps start getting bigger and bigger. Did I mention lots of cool hip jumps. So I finally get one of the main lines figured out and I realize the next step is a subtle right into a big "BIG" right hip. I eye it up and walk around it. Everything looks perfect based on the speed and the size and the hill. It all worked out, but it was fucking scary to look at. The lip was taller than me and it was a hip. Between the jump and the landing is a huge ditch with a fallen tree in it. I finally decided to stop thinking about it and just pin at it. A few roll-ins to feel it out and then I sent it. It was so buttery smooth and so big. It felt awesome. This was the first jump I have ever hit that made me feel small while I was in the air. It was wild. That was my day.

It keeps the adrenaline going.
Current mood: blank
I have been spending a lot of time at my local dirt jumps lately. Good fun. My bike has ben taking a thrashing. My steerer tube has a decent bend to it and my frame now has four good cracks in it. Two by the seat tube - seat stays junction, and two in the headtube - downtube region. I find the best thing to do is pretend everything is ok. Lets all hope that she holds out till I can afford a new rig. Thats all for now.

Pin Striping
Current mood: artistic
I have wanted to learn to stripe for several years now. I love seeing ratty old hotrods with clean sharp striping. A little bit of crisp red and white on flat black rat-rod makes me smile. This is a dying art. I am so excited help keep it alive. I finally invested in two brushed and five basic colors of one shot paint. I have been practicing for a few weeks now. Learning to control my line quality and consistency as well as my symmetry. I feel that I am off to a good start and I can see improvement already, but I look at the work of people who have been doing this for years and I realize how far I have to go. Thanks to everyone who encourages me. I'll try to post up pictures of projects when I can.

brian update
Current mood: sub-epic
A scattered general update of my current life. Well, I miss portland and all my friends up there. I am working in CT fixing boat propellers. I don't like it very much, but it's a job and the money isn't bad. I have all sorts of things I want to spend money on, but I don't seem to have any money. The top of the list is a VR6 in the mk2, a new fork for the DH bike, then maybe a Black Market frame. Oh, and bills, and insurance, and rent, and gas, and coffee. I have (almost) graduated college. I got to celebrate, but I dont have the important paper. Soon. I am sort of in limbo with what I want from life right now. My sort of short(ish) term plan is to pay off a bunch of student loans and within the next faw years be teaching. I am also trying to get more active with screen printing. That's most of what I did at meca, and now I want to set up my own studio somewhere. Mostly ideas at this point, but on their way to reality slowly but surely. Work has been a drain on me lately, but my trip to BC Canada is a light at the end of the tunnel. I will be on my bike with some of my best friends for the last week of July and the first week of Aug. I can't wait. I think thats about it for now. OH! and I got a BMX! ...thanks Lisa, Rodge, and the Buck family.

Does this mean I have to grow up?
Current mood: what's next?
OK, so it recently hit me that I am almost through with college. I have a semester and a half.....then is's over. I graduate. Well great!?! Now what? I would like to become certifyed to teach at some point. That has been the basic plan all along (Ok money, summers off, good insurance and more art). I thing I want a little time away from school. Fuck, I don't even know where I want to live. Portland has been a great town for me, but not where I want to settle. I don't want to go back to CT (the money pit). Maybee Mass or RI. Who knows. I guess I still have some time to get a better game plan. I am done venting for now. Love, Brian
