Southern California? Lets go!
Current mood: high
Category: Music

Hello to anyone reading this!

First let me thank you for giving a shit.

Second, lets pull up our boot straps and get down to business. My brother the robot would say "Bring your action plans".

We were planning on going on another month long tour, and things didnt go as planned. Touring is becoming very hard for bands like us, ya know...local bands that are trying to break into the next level of the "music biz".

So things have been scaled down for the time being, and we are re-evaluating how we are gonna make our next tour happen. We had to cancel any dates outside of California, so instead of leaving town for the month of august, and bouncing around the country...we will just be making a short trip down to the southern zone of our state for a trio of shows. (A hat trick, a triple dip, long weekend, whatever you want to call it).

8/10 in Upland @ The Wire
8/11 in LA @ The Viper Room
8/12 in Anaheim @ Chain Reaction

Our new record is available now at all of our shows. You purchase a plastic credit card type download card from us, and it allows you entrance into our new website www.redhandsinholywater.com. There, you will be able to download not just our new album "Red Hands In Holy Water", but every single recording we have done. All for $5. If thats too much money for you, then eat shit. Its almost cheaper than a gallon of gas. Too bad your car doesn't run on sweet tunes.

Anyhow, we're giving you all we got, and all we want from you is a five spot.

Don't have a computer? Someone you know has one. You really should have one too, so save up your lunch money and buy one, or tell your mother/father to buy one to help you with school work.

Soon we will make it available for purchase online too. Right now, it can only be purchased at our live shows.

Thats the scoop.

How Long Will We Follow? How Long Will They Lead?
Current mood: high
Category: Music

Hi Reader. Friend. Family Member. Person who might dig our band.

Back in the middle of February we rented/borrowed/bought & returned a ton of recording equipment to turn the Ferro Family home into Springer Road Studios.

Our pal Sean Lynch flew out from Billings, MT to engineer and help with pre-production (and he even played on the record). Our pal John Baccigaluppi from The Hanger hooked us up with a buncha sweet gear and we made a record.

Its called "Red Hands in Holy Water" and here is the tracklisting:

The Call
Welcome to Your Doom
Norman Bates
Fire of The Vanities
The Locust
Be Still
Te Voy A Matar
Monarch
Red Hands in Holy Water
Food For The Rats

Its about 80% done in the mixing phase (also done by Sean Lynch) and then heads over to be mastered in Omaha, NE by Doug @ Focus Mastering.

We recorded this album in a somewhat unconventional manner, and decided to release the album in a somewhat unconventional manner. (Also because of finanical restraints and no record label backing at this time). More news on that very soon. CDs are soooooo 2005.

Anyhow, once we get back the mastered copy, we'll throw as many songs up for streaming as this site will let us. You can check out some live videos of most of the songs in one of our older blogs (thanks saclights.com).

Last but not least we got 2 great local shows coming up:

6/16 @ The Boardwalk in Orangevale, CA - all ages
w/The Flobot & Who Cares

7/12 @ The Blue Lamp in Sacramento, CA - 21+
w/Bridges, An Angle & one more tba (there is one more band confirmed, but I can't remember the name cause I am a bad person)

Lurve,
BLF

Recording Red Hands in Holy Water
Category: Music

Hello Reader,

On Monday morning the 18th of Feb we start recording the follow up to the "critically acclaimed" album Bright Light Fever presents The Evening Owl. Which was a total "commercial success" in case you were wondering.

Our next record is going to be recorded completely independent. We'll be using a  budget smaller then there were people who saw the oscar worthy film "Gingerdead Man" starring Gary Busey.

Here are the songs we will be tracking:

Opening
Food For The Rats
Welcome To Your Doom
Te Voy A Matar
Norman Bates
Red Hands in Holy Water
Be Still
Fire of The Vanities
The Locust
Monarch

5 of those songs are currently available on our player, but 4 of them are demo versions, and 1 of them is a live track.

We'll be recording in downtown sacramento, with the help of our pal Sean Lynch (he recorded the demo versions of those songs I referred to earlier). Our new friend Andres Torres will also be there to share his talents.

Thanks to everyone who came out to Club Pow last monday. It was the first time we played a lot of these songs live, and we had an awesome time. We love you Ira.

If you miss our next local show (with bridges & pets) then we can't be friends anymore. Check our page for details.

I hope to have Don provide a studio diary of some sort on a daily basis. Keep your eyes peeled for that. Pictures & video will also be taken.

Thanks for giving a shit

where we’re going, we dont need roads (Complete Tour Blog)
Current mood: cold

greetings from billings, montana. ive taken it upon myself to begin a tour blog, it may go unupdated from this point, but the idea would be to update it as we go along, document things while it is still fresh in our minds, so that if you cared to you could be as bored as we are.
that said, we left tuesday the 20th early, early in the morning. it was exciting, we got to look at at least 9 hours of desert. my, what fun. it warms my heart just looking back on it. yeah, so that was garbage, and then it began snowing. fortunately ive flown in hyperspace before, so we kept our cool and after a long fight we killed that snow. bla bla bla, drive for another 9 hours on ice packed roads, while listening to T2, it was inspiring. (on august 29th 1999, anyone not wearing SPF 2000000 sunblock is gonna have a pretty fucking bad day). now, here, in the frozen tundra of montana, the BLF is firmly out of its element, and our noble fight carries on. we play in montana tonight, and i hope you can make it, old friend. as far as thanksgiving, dont give thanks, give bruises, tough guy.
as always, stay strong and vote don suave '08.

sup yall, its update time once again, and i know your juiced! we've been maxin and chillaxin in omaha for a day or so now, my memory as far as what has transpired since the last update is all skewed, mixed up, but i'll just cover the events, not the time, and i'll just try my best on the sequence. montana show was great, we rocked the casbah, drank the brew, and ate a hearty beef stew afterwards. the rocknroll dream. the following day we filled our troughs and ate till our brains were full. (read between the lines, it was thanksgiving) and then we set out for omaha. drive 13 hours across the frozen tundra, ooh boy, it was a chilly time, i tell yuh, and then sleep in a truck stop. and what a pleasant truck stop it was. after a few hours of sleep, we made it to omaha and sampled the local cuisine. the hash browns are good. after that we met our new friend oliver of Landing on the Moon (and you should check out that band) and he's put us up. Omaha is totally awesome fun time, we went to the zoo, and i'd recommend it, anytime and everytime. off to lincoln, im not sure where the next computer is, but an update could happen soon, just say your prayers. Theres rumors of a bizarro don suave in DC, and i hope to meet him. thats the report, keep the dream alive and praise the lord!
don suave (saturday 11/24)

hello again, old friend....
im now writing from new york. since i wrote in omaha, we've had some serious days go by. 5 in fact. oh golly, the excitement. lincoln was a mediocre show, we met some kindly folk who put us up in their basement, and that was all swell. on a day off we had a rendezvous with our old friend tim T2 nancil, we slept on the floor of his swank hotelroom, and said sayonara lincoln, we're off to kansas. in lawence kansas, or larry kansas as i like to call it, we played another mediocre show, and then found out that our mediocre show coming up in tennessee was canceled. so thats cool, we decided to head straight out for new york. with about half the country to cover, the following 2 days were dedicated to driving and sleeping, we took two sleep breaks, one truck stop in illinois and another in pennsylvania. the one in PA was fresh, it made me happy. which brings us to today, when we got here into the city and rested and showered at our friend sarahs lovely apartment. our show is going to transpire in about 3 hours, and thats just thrilling! tomorrow is off, we hope to explore the city, and the following day were at the college of william and mary in virginia. then back to new york. hopefully, we'll be in touch, and until then,
stay strong hoss.
don (thurs 11/29)

hello again... we're here in edwardsville, illinois, shackin up with our new friends from a band called So many dynamos. totally awesome. we played william and mary, adn it was good, great, fun was had and we were fed too, so thats tight. we stayed another night with james baker in DC, and were off to new york again the next day, where played a mediocre show (but it was still legit) and then drove all the damn way to st. louis, where we played that night. that drive involved 4 am blizzards in pennsylvania, lot lizards on the prowl and a classical soundtrack. which brings to now, and im gonna eat some spaghetti before its all gone. rock steady, be bop!

don (12/4)

watup, motherlovers
its been a few days since computer access has been available, good lord, has it been rough. just kidding, despite the lack of interweb connectability, things have been reasonably good. since we stayed with the dudes in illinois, we've come a good ways. from illinois we made the drive to oklahoma, yet again played a mediocre show. we played for about 4 people, and they were great. 4 more dedicated fans in oklahoma city, excellent. from there we drove to wichita, KS, had a wonderful night in a walmart parkinglot, got mcCoffee in the morning prepared to drive to Colorado Springs. Despite warnings about weather, we pushed on and went all the way, with little to no weather at all. So we were riding high and mighty. "snow storm my ass" we said. we met up with the wonderful Photo Atlas, or the Phatlas as ive taken to saying, and played a good (not mediocre) show. During the show it began snowing, and it really hasn't stopped since. snow storm my ass, right? i know, right?....So here we are, staying at Bill from the Phatlas' home (which is nicer than any place Ive been since the womb), high up in the mountains of colorado. while we might not actually technically be snowed in, we might as well be. the weather is just gnarly bra. hexxa snow. so we're laying low on this saturday night, eating pizza, drinking beer, playing videogames, because it is saturday, snow or not. thats just how we roll. tomorrow night we're playing in denver, and we hope it will be good. after that show we're gonna make a wicked, treacherous journey from colorado back home. we'll have 19 hours, 2 deserts and 2 mountain ranges to cover, with a bit of luck the snow will let up and we wont be in too much peril. with a bit of luck i'll be writing the next and final blog installment from the comfort of home. that might be a silly thought, right now it seems so, but only time will tell. and remember, john lennon died on this day, rest in peace, old friend.
keep rockin in the free world!
don and the Bright Light Fever

Howdy ya'll!
Here I am, from the comfort of my own home, writing the final blog. We've been home for a day, but you may be suprised to hear that ive got some better things to do than write this garbage. Not to say there isnt much to report. Hell, brother, that last drive was a doozie, let me tell ya. Shit man. We'll just work it from the top down. Sunday morning we parted way with the Photo Atalas, tears were shed, we're never good at goodbyes. a bunch of softies i tell ya. So we made the drive into denver, and as i recall i was feeling particularly ill that day, all the cold and adventure had caught up to me. So we got to the Hi Dive hours before we were supposed to play, i took that opportunity to sleep it off (and was later glad i did...). They fed us at the Sputnik next door, and if your ever in denver go to the Sutnik, get a cup of coffee (because it is supergood) and order the shrimp poboy. Goddamn! best. sandwich. ever. well, it was pretty good anyways, and the people there were awesome. So we played at the Hi Dive to a limited audience, but we did get to see a couple of old friends and hang out, and it was good. We got done playing around 11 pm, things looked clear, it was as cold as a witches tit, but it looked alright, so we said "peace out acadia and the asteroid, peace out denver, california, here we come!" we even put on that Phantom Planet song and had a sing along to get in the mood. I was at the wheel, my plan was to drive until the Opie and Anthony show (a morning talk radio show) was over (at 10 am). So as I planned, i had a solid 10 hours to go and come hell or high water I would do it. Well, as it happens, hell AND high water came and fucked my plans all up. The drive was going well, throughout wyoming there was some serious wind/snow factors, some ice, but nothing we hadnt seen yet, and we were cruising despite, because we had home to get to. It was around 5 in the morning that fate took its grim turn and we were truly put to the test.
We had passed enough accidents at that point that I was driving with caution, obviously the ice was not to be tangled with. But the ice wanted to tangle, and tangle we did. We went from cruising at about 35 mph to full blast Gravitron mode, comeplete with slovenly carnies. Holy mackaroon, if there was a figure skating competition for vans, we would have blown the competiition away. we did like a backside 720 mondowhip into a guard rail. yeah, it was extreme, we slammed that rail and it was the only thing that kept us from total descructo bust. It was mass hysteria for a second there, I was a little shaken, for sure. I inspected the van, and by, god, she seemed all right. a little mashed, but still workable. So I tried to drive it, and we discovered that the steering wheel was not doing its job. Lousy bastard, everything else held up, but alas, we werent going far without steering. After a couple hours of waiting for our tow, we got to Rock Springs, wyoming, and the awesome folks at Petes Auto Repair fixed our van. they were all over it, replaced our destroyed gearbox in a couple hours, gave us the bill (it was 420 bucks, oh shit, right?) and we were on the road again. We were only set back about 7 hours, incredible, i know. With that behind us, the rest of the drive was pretty much cake. I was even given free coffee at a gas station, completely at random. How kind. We arrived in Sacramento at about 4 am tuesday, and promptly fell down in a heap.
With that final chapter done, I hope you werent dissapointed or too bored by our mundane happenings. If you were you can piss off, why did you even read this far? im mostly writing this for me anyways, its the only way i'll remember any of it.
For our first cross country tour, it went suprisingly smooth, and we have a lot of people to thank for that. So now I'll thank everyone.
Thanks to Sean & Ann in Billings for the delicious thanksgiving dinner (and booking our tour, sean), all the awesome folks in Landing on the Moon for the great time in Omaha, Nick in Lincoln (you had a fine basement, sir), Sara and Brandon in New York, James Baker (my doppleganger), all the guys of So Many Dynamos, and the Photo Atlas (especially Bill and family).
No doubt ive forgotten someone that I really shouldnt have forgotten, and I apologise, you, but my mind just isnt what it used to be. Thanks to everyone that came out and saw us play, and double thanks if you bought something. It'd be great to see you again, and you will have ample oppotunity.
Oh yeah, Acadia and the Asteroid. Thanks for nothing, and keep the change, you filthy animals. AJ, Allette, Kyle, and Levi, you are all awesome, and we are all now BFFs. and im serious, best friends forever, like diamonds are forever.
later gator,
don suave (12/12)

Thanks
Matt/BLF
