The Liar’s Diary Blog Day

It would be a shame for a helluva book like The Liar's Diary to go unnoticed because its author couldn't promote it due to a little thing like cancer. I just found about about The Liar's Diary Blog Day, which is today, a PR extravaganza in which hundreds of authors are banding together to promote the paperback reprint of fellow tribeswoman Patry Francis. There are synopses all over the Web by now, but here's the short version:

Two women. Two diaries. Many secrets, one of which could be deadly. One of the women writes about her fear that someone is entering her house when she isn't at home, with truly sinister intentions. The other may have to choose between protecting her dear friend, and protecting her family.

This is too good a plot, and too good a title, to go to waste.

Pass it on.

Fanfic Confession

Characters Know No Boundaries

It's frightening sometimes, hearing them downstairs, when I don't know who it might be. I listen and wonder if it's someone I know, someone I've already written. Someone someone else has written. Sometimes I think it may be Mr Jingles, and then I shiver, and I remember he's only a mask and doesn't have a body...yet.

Most of the time it's someone just passing through. They like to hang around because, if they try hard enough, they can make me see them, hear them, smell them. Most of the time they're just curious. Most of the time they're someone else's. Sometimes they're just lost.

For some reason, they like to hang around just outside when I'm in the shower.

Sometimes they watch me sleep. I know this because I wake up at night, and sometimes hear their footsteps. They can see in the dark, because it's only our dark, not theirs. And I control my breathing and pretend to be asleep and don't let myself see them through my eyelids. I've done it since I was a child, since before Claudio.

Claudio is one of the most powerful experiences I have ever had. When he left, part of me died. And I could not talk about it, because he is so much more than mere flesh-and-blood. I still ache when I hear "Don't Fear the Reaper" or when a piano is played just so, or when I see a certain film. I want to call him to me, because I know he would come. It would be so easy. But I cannot, because now there is another.

They come to me, and I speak with them. Some of them stay long enough to give me their stories. Some of them have other ideas.

These are the things I can tell no one.

Alone With Voldemort and His 10 1/2 Inches of Magic

Ah, yes, it's a lovely thought. But it's not what I will be writing about today, suckers. Today's Harry Potter topic is a comparison between use of magic in Harry Potter versus the use of magic in The Lord of the Rings. The use of magic in the Dark Lord's bedroom is a subject for fanfic. Fanfic that shall never be posted anywhere (but which may be seen by appointment).
