Did a band nearly ruin your life?

Hi All.

This is an excerpt from an old band website's history page that I wrote, and when I realised that I was ranting, it became quite amusing. Let me know what you think, and if you have any experience with managers.

The wisdom of an outside influence can be a very good thing, as long as their influence isn't one of greed, and they really do like the ideas that make the band what they were in the first place, popular, not loathed. It is so heartbreaking to see a great band destroyed so easily. It's healthy to have various management working with you to build you up an up and up, and they can be professional when they do it, but they should all have one thing in common, they must fucking LOVE the music you do, and everything they do, and every idea they have is for the band, not their own private scheme of getting rich! (hhmmmm lovely money...!) Don't make the regretable mistake that I did, if you don't like something, SPEAK UP.! The worst that can happen is that you will be sacked from the band for "musical differences", worst still you might lose some close friendships, but you won't waste fucking prime years of your life when you know you could be having a career, making records! I left it 'till the age of 30 to break away from it all and move to London, and I can assure that most 15 year old musicians have more talent now than we could have ever dreamed for back then, and nowdays 30 is borderline for a session or backing musician as the standard is now so high, you can usually piece together a great band within ten phone calls..!

You're probably thinking "what's he goin' on about"? Let me tell you. I was once your age, and would give anything to be there again to put things right. On the other hand, I did manage to dig myself from the shit and reprocussions using a toothpick after nearly twenty years, therefore loving life at the moment with wife and daughters.......so ignore what I said about the age thing.......look.......leave me alone.......I'm trying to help you youngsters not choose "Fagin" as a manager.......!

Who knows, perhaps we really just weren't good enough.......NO.!.... Never ever say this to yourself, because there is so much shit out there in the top of the charts, and there must be a reason why nearly a thousand people tried to tear your band's clothes off after a raucus gig in an art college when you were 21 years old....!.......ok.......I suppose there is the drink........but a musicians ego needs feeding...hehehe..!

You want to know the definition of a real manager, look up on Wikipedia "Peter Jenner" or "Phil Nelson". If you get a manager half as decent as these men, then you've found someone who sincerely thinks you're good enough.

"Lucy Fur" - Not Doo-Wop...!

Hey there,
I've put a song called "Lucy Fur" online, which was written some time ago by a great old friend Ralph Lewis, and I re-recorded it recently with the old Wax Idols lineup (pre-DooWop), featuring the fantastic Andy Green on drums, and Richard Poynter on lead guitar.
As I've recently had twin girls born into the Magraw house, (the gorgeous Molly & Maggie Magraw),  the Doo-Wop album has slowed down slightly, but I will persevere with it.
The new track is just for fun, to show you the kind of stuff I was doing before the Doo-Wop bug bit me hard...! (I do love a bit of lively behaviour on stage..!)

The Doo-Wop will be back on schedule soon (after some sleep..!!)

Cars & Girls...?

Do you think music in general is getting too serious, violent, offensive, or starting to disappear up it's own arse from trying to be like everyone else that's "hot" at the moment..?

I don't know if it's just me getting older, but nothing these days has anything positive or fun to convey, only kids crapping on about how they're owed a living, but having done bugger all to deserve it.....!!

I give up....I'll only write old fashion songs about cars and girls etc.....purely for fun, and for anyone else who likes old style stuff...and who may also be sick of all the insipid, limp-wristed shite that seems to be "the norm"...!
