Fall is in the air.. And so is this f**king parrot flying over my house...

Actually about 50 wild parrots live in my neighborhood, and hey pick my tree at 7am to be assholes and throw their little parrot party. I mean, who parties at 7am???? Parrots, of course. I would say more but my random stream of conscience doesn't seem to be letting me swim upstream. All I can think about is getting back out and playing shows, since I finished the new record. Sooooooooo... That's exactly what ima gonna do. We are putting a few special "fan-only" intimate, small venue shows on sale today for the true fans to come to. These will be what they call in the biz "promo dates" in a few select cities, based around the release of Sycamore Meadows. They will be crowded, fun and I will probably be able to know all of you by name by the end of the show. So read below and see how to get these tickets because they will probably sell out with just the amount of relatives I have in each city. I love you, mom and dad....

www.maybeitsjustme.biz is in now a go...

so i am really excited/bored/nervous/happy about having a blog (god, i promised i would never even say that fucking word) on here for you. the only weird thing is why i caved in and did it anyways. i guess i am just fascinated with people's fascination with others' everyday lives. we have all these crazy magazines now that outsell SPIN and Paste 10 to 1, that are just about seeing people at the beach looking a little fat. it is weird for us to be obsessed with mischa barton's appearing/vanishing/reappearing cellulite, and where the dude from Dazed and Confused does push-ups today. (how do you know if a period in a sentence is italicized? i told you we were in trouble here...).

also, what's the deal with the online status feature on every website, program, etc? why would i want you to know if Butch Walker is studying? peeing? in a pensive state? it is so weird that we have to know what everyone is doing at that moment and that you would WANT to let everyone know what you are doing every moment as well. my friend was telling me about the future of the internet the other day, and there's a whole website now dedicated to just telling people what you are doing right now... WTF? OMG? LOL? HDIRMPWIF (how do i retrieve my password i forgot)? fuck having a myspace or facebook to post semi-flattering pics of yourself. how about just a site that sends a message to your phone to tell you where and what your friends (or enemies) are doing right NOW. can't a girl get a little fucking privacy around here? i am blown away. there is no mystery or mystique anymore. i remember back in the day, being really curious in wonderment about what my favorite rockstar or actress crush would be doing at that moment. were they sitting in a castle on top of a mountain with a vegan turkey leg in their hand, while being fed grapes from a contest winner? were they actually normal? did they shop at Ralph's? did they buy hi end mac'n'cheese or the generic 5/dollar kind? did they watch TV? what did they like to listen to?.. the beauty of it was..... WE NEVER FUCKING KNEW. once the mystery was gone in these people's lives, due to the media feeding our obsession, it was all over. now the desensitization (tell me if i made that word up) of our culture has made us not give a shit if Axel puts out a record that people have been waiting in anticipation (?) for 50 years to hear, but wether or not that Fat-assed, sorta hot Kardashian will be fucking anyone else on a cheap, homemade pornotape anytime soon. this is the grave we dug. we must lie in it. but as we lie there, telling the worms that the last Wolfmother album was better than the new demos they accidentally leaked online, we must ask ourselves..... does anything really make us truly happy and inspired? does anything really move us, or is being moved considered gay or uncool? next blog: Religion, Movies, and overuse of the italics feature....

I come bearing gifts....

Fun times in BW world.. If you go to iTunes right now, there's 2 little gems ("ships in a bottle" and "the weight of her") you can download from my new record that I just finished! I'm so excited also about showing you a little home-made video I did last year (for "ships in a bottle") at my old house and studio that burned, right before they cleaned out the wreckage. It's pretty much a bum-out, but I am glad I filmed it so that I can show it to my kids one day. The video will premiere on MySpace tomorrow! Enjoy and I can't wait to put this record out! Whew....

hi... long time, no.... nothing!

it took me awhile to want to pick up the ol' mac and start typing anything. been a rough couple of months, but good as well. read on....

Lollapalooza was a riot, and i managed to come home from that little tour run in one piece. the Atlanta shows were something special, and Chicago is always great. i saw not nearly enough live music, for a festival that had a thousand acts, but i managed to get my fill of it with some Cat Power and The Raconteurs, in between doing interviews in cowboy boots and standing on kick drums during rock-n-roll finales.

good things come to an end. like festivals and making records. the latter, which i have in the can now. it just got mixed and i think you will be proud. fuck it.. i will be proud. i'm gonna go take a drive down the PCH right now and give it a listen.. if i don't turn around by the 3rd song, then things are looking up.. always the critic...

we are slated for maybe Nov. for a release on it and it will be called Sycamore Meadows. can't wait!

on another note:

my buddy jerry finn died from an unexpected brain hemorrhage the other day. he was my age. this guy, if you aren't music biz savvy, was one of the biggest rock/punk producers ever. he also worked with me on my old band's (the Marvelous 3) last record and taught me so much about recording and producing. i owe a lot to this friend. he turned me onto things wayyyy before they were cool. he used to bring in these VCR tapes (it was 1999, gimme a break!) of this unknown animated series called The Family Guy, and we would laugh 'til tears came down. he would pick me up from my hotel everyday on the way to the studio and pop in these cd live bootlegs of this underground local LA club sensation called Tenacious D. this too, would make me pee my pants. there was never a sad or uncomfortable moment in the studio while making the record. he always had a big smile and laughed at all of my stupid sayings and impersonations. i will miss you buddy, and i am sorry that we didn't hang out much in the last few years. we were both working...

life is precious... enjoy it.
