Hi everyone! just an update! Im doing really well and I'm just trying to be as positive as I possibly can be! I'm still using crutches, but I'm ok with them now that I decorated them with rhinestones :}.
Just read this article so I'm a little freaked out eeks! Lets hope I don't have to get a hip replacement down the line?
Just wanted to thank everyone for all their love and support! Looks like they have a date for a benefit show for me at the Continental Club!! A party for any reason sounds good I hope you all can make this one... keep your eyes peeled for all the info! xx, CC
Femoral Neck Fractures What is a femoral neck fracture?
By Jonathan Cluett, M.D., About.com
Updated: January 11, 2007
About.com Health's Disease and Condition content is reviewed by Kate Grossman, MD See More About:
* hip pain * osteoporosis * fracture versus break * hip replacement
As discussed previously, a femoral neck fracture occurs just below the ball of the ball-and-socket hip joint; this region is called the femoral neck. When a femoral neck fracture occurs, the ball is disconnected from the rest of the thigh bone (the femur).
The important issue with femoral neck fractures is that the blood supply to the fractured portion of bone is often disrupted at the time of injury. Because blood flow is diminished, these fractures are at high risk of not healing, especially when the fracture is badly displaced. Due to the problem blood supply with femoral neck fractures, many will be treated by a partial hip replacement.
What is the treatment of a femoral neck fracture? Treatment of a femoral neck fracture depends on several factors. The most important criteria to consider are:
o The amount of displacement of the fracture
o The age of the patient
In younger patients, those under 60 to 65 years old, every effort will be made to avoid a partial hip replacement. Hip replacements work very well for less active patients, but they tend to wear out in younger, more active patients. Therefore, in young patients, a chance may be taken to avoid hip replacement even if there is a high risk of a non healing fracture.
For most femoral neck fractures the treatment will be one of the following:
* Hip Pinning A hip pinning is a procedure done to place several screws across the fractured bone. Hip pinning is generally only done in patients with a femoral neck fracture that is well aligned and minimally displaced. In young patients, as described above, hip pinning may be attempted even if the bones are not properly aligned. However, even in this setting, a partial hip replacement may be necessary.
When a hip pinning is performed, a patient is usually under general or spinal anesthesia. A small incision is made on the outside of the thigh. Using x-ray to guide your surgeon, several screws are passed across the fracture in order to stabilize the broken bones.
Patients can generally place as much weight on the hip as is tolerated, but this will vary in some cases--check with your surgeon before initiating any therapy or exercise. As the bones heal, the pain will generally subside. The primary concern with femoral neck fractures is that the damaged blood supply to the bone will lead to non healing or bone death (hip osteonecrosis) of the femoral head. In these cases, patients may require a hip replacement surgery down the road.

Cardinal Cyn breaks her Femur @ SXSW
Current mood: miserable
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities
Burlesque show Scandalous Sinema @ Austins Emo’s Lounge read all about it~!!
Yep its very sadly true :{ While walking through the crowd on my way up to the stage I slipped on someone’s spilled icey drink! Who would do such a terrible thing and not pick it up! uggg The show must go on and I thought I could get up.. luckily the stage guys & dave were there to pick me up and take me in the back. Still hopeful that I could pop it (my hip?) back in place and go on with the show...ahhh NO, that didn’t happen.... thank you to all that helped and kitty kitty bang bang girls convincing us to go to the emergency hospital. I had surgery early Sunday morning where they inserted 3 stainless steel screws that are holding me together! They say it will be 3-6 months recovery. Im to stay off the leg until then! Its official I’m now in the burlesque bone break club with Kitten DeVille! Yes, she is one of my faves I just wanted to be like her! ha ha She was there helping me and getting her sequin dress caught up in my fishnets.. I guess you could say we where joined at the hip! Sorry to say it will unfortunately be a while before this hip will be doing any shakin! Thanks again to all that helped me through the night I couldn’t have asked for more wonderful people to be taken care of by!! I asked my Dr. Chen to please give me a pretty nice, & the smallest scar possible! Mr Wolfe bought me a fancy titanium blue walker, pretty sexy!
The only reason why I knew what a femur was is The Vibro Champs, Dave Wolfe’s band does a song about it! So we are gonna do a special cut of it that you can buy online to donate to the "Cardinal Cyn shakes again fund"!! Que sera sera!
The femur is the thigh bone. In humans, it is the longest, most voluminous, and strongest bone. The average human femur is 48 centimeters in length and 2.34 cm in diameter and can support up to 30 times the weight of an adult. It forms part of the hip (at the acetabulum) and part of the knee.
The word femur is Latin for thigh. Theoretically in strict usage, femur bone is more proper than femur, as in classical Latin femur means "thigh", and os femoris means the bone within it.
In medical Latin its genitive is always femoris, but in classical Latin its genitive is often feminis, and should not be confused with case forms of femina, which means "woman".
