Mayhem 06
hey all!!!
Last saturday we had our second annual "Middle Eastern Mayhem!" The opening act, I must say, was the best! Carenza mentioned that she has gotten emails and many comments stating how impressed people were with our students' performance! Way to go girls! You totally rocked the house! I think it was so much fun having all of the students in one song! Good times! I'm so proud of everyone! And did everyone look hot? of course!!!
This saturday the caravan and students will be at the Delaware county fair from 5-6. (All students are welcome to come and perform No. 1 punjabi and free dance!) Our very special friends, Il Troubadore will be joining us. Yay! good times for the double C (C arenzas C aravan--get it?)

Tribal Pura: Bloomington
We had a great weekend in Bloomington! we got to study with Carolena and Megha of Fat Chance Belly Dance. Carolena pretty much created Tribal Belly dance, so it was a real treat and challenge to spend the day learning from her!
So, yea.. the weekend was educational, but I'm pretty sure we went out and had a great time. You really can't go to a great college town like Bloomington (home of the IU hoosiers) and just stay at the hotel the whole time! We explored the night life on Friday on the Square and ended up dancing at Kilroy's. It was pretty crappy music, but we made a friend named Josh who was a pretty good dancer himself. Saturday night we went Salsa Dancing! I didn't know what I was doing, at all, but it was still fun to watch and stumble along!
I'll try to post some pictures later!

Mardi Gras
Carenza's Caravan had a busy weekend with Muncie's Mardi Gras celebrations!
Johara, Dunya and I (Elizabeth) started out the night downtown at our favorite shop, Wishbone. They are always so good to us! If you go in there, mention that you heard about them from us, cause seriously--they treat us so well! Anyway, they let us warm up a bit in there. No one ever said that being a belly dancer was easy, but they did usually say you'd be hot because belly dancing really is a work out! This did not turn out to be the case this weekend. It was pretty chilly at 13 degrees, not to mention the serious wind blowin' through Walnut st. We took turns warming up occasionally, but by 9:30, we were all (as my granny used to say) "Chilled to the bone!" We had a tip box, and only made a little bit of cash, but it was fun dancing! Not to mention the major coverage we got: Apparently Dunya and Johara made it onto the Channel 13 news, and Dunya and I made it onto the front page of the Sunday paper! Our friend Beth from the Sahara sisters joined us, as well! She was a real trooper and it was a lot of fun having her there dancing with us!
At about 9:30, we needed to get to our next engagement, and just in time too because it was starting to get pretty rowdy. We got to Ball State's Late Nite Mardi Gras. Late nite is a weekly (or something) event, where they have a bunch of stuff going on in the student center. It's a pretty cool event, and they asked us there to teach some lessons. We did so, and met some really great people, and some really great dancers! I hope I see them in class soon! Belly dancer Molly was there with the freak show. She did some fire dancing with Poi (two flaming balls on the end of ropes that get twirled around) and a staff with the ends on fire. It was way cool (no pun intended).
So, a good night indeed! Next up, we have the Tribal Pura show in Bloomington. If you are interested in going to the show, I suggest you purchase tickets in advance, as you can get a price break and you don't risk traveling to bloomington and having them be sold out! You can buy tickets online here.
So, until next time! ~Elizabeth
