Billy Joel, teaching, and new gigs- oh my!
Category: Travel and Places
Dear friends-
HAPPY FALL! This update's a little longer than most, mostly since I've been pretty MIA. Hey, even musicians need some re-think, re-motivate, rejuvenate time. . . ha.
In this update:
1. Spring Re-cap
2. Teaching Voice Lessons
3. Gigs
4. Where have you been. . .
1. SPRING RE-CAP: In case I haven't already, I have to thank everyone who came out to support the Borders tour over the Spring, from NYC to LA. It was incredible meeting people all over the place and getting paid in Seattle's Best lattes. Also, thanks to, and welcome to the email list, to everyone from Millington, TN (where I opened for the Nelson Brothers), the Upper West Music Fest (from July), and my birthday gig at The Bitter End.
Some other cool things from Spring: in June, I was invited to a concert by one of my biggest influences, and a musician and songwriter I respect so much for his words and music and sense of humor, wit, and reality- BILLY JOEL. He apparently found my music online, liked what he heard, and invited me to visit him at Mohegan Sun. So, it was amazing to hang with one of my favorite writers of all time and get some musical and career perspective from him. Always knew I'd meet him someday, but didn't ever think it'd be HIM who'd find ME!
Summer, I spent teaching rock band camp to 10-16 year-olds on Long Island, hanging out, writing, moving twice, and now settled back in Brooklyn (where I want to be. . . awwww).
2. TEACHING! A bit of a departure from the "come to my shows" angle in these emails- how about "come to my studio and learn how to sing"? After years of playing, writing, touring, recording, singing lead and backup and everything in between, I'm interested in sharing what I know and helping OTHERS find their truest, strongest voices. SO, if you or anyone you know of are interested in taking voice lessons, let me know and I'll hook you up with the CK update list rate ;-) I'm also doing a bit of indie and new artist coaching, and have some great referrals from artists I'm working with now, in case anyone on this list is an artist looking to improve their results as an independent and growing songwriter, singer, or musician in the "new" music biz. Email me: Cassandra@CKubinski.com

4. WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?
Yes, I know, I've been "off the scene" for most of the Summer. It's been mostly writing that I'm doing. Stay tuned for a new Cassandra Kubinski Songwriter Myspace page that will have cuts of the pop and dance and more urban stuff I'm working on with Flytrap Productions.
Meanwhile, I updated my Myspace and YouTube pages with some new pix and a video of an awesome jam of Journey's "Separate Ways" that was recorded just this past weekend in San Francisco at my friend Keith's incredible loft. If you have not been to San Fran, you must go. www.myspace.com/cassandrakubinski
So, check out the pix and video, email all your friends and co-workers that want voice lessons to come take with me, come see me rock out in October if you can, and in the meantime, enjoy the mums and apples and pumpkins.
THIS SUNDAY- Charity bash at Arctica Bar- Labor Day weekend!

Dear friends-
A huge thank you to everyone who made it out to see my birthday concert last week and hang out at Peculier Pub afterwards. I had a fantastic time and was moved by those of you who came- thank you for making it such a memorable evening for me!
I'm part of a Labor Day Charity Bash this weekend, Sunday, to benefit Mission Humanity, an organization that builds schools for girls in India who do not receive an education. Dear friends-
Tonight's the night- hope you'll join me to celebrate 25! Thanks for all your well wishes and support- it's been an "interesting" year for me so far, and I'm looking forward to just having fun with all of you tonight. If you DON'T live in NYC, forward this along to someone who does, to invite them to the show!
My 25th Birthday (well, ok, my actual bday is Aug 21)
Wednesday, August 20
8 PM
At the legendary BITTER END (147 Bleecker St, between Thompson and LaGuardia)
$10, 18+
Take the 6 to Bleecker or the ACE BDFV to W. 4th St

AFTER PARTY DETAILS:
We'll be hanging out at either Peculiar Pub (right next door to Bitter End) or Cafe Espanol, across the street, pending a final decision. Just check with me or one of my team (whomever is doing merch, or the guy taking pictures, or one of my band) at the show to find out exactly where we'll be. And, bonus! They've agreed to help me celebrate my b-day by giving YOU discounted drinks all night long (so, that would be $3 beer/wine/drinks and $4 top shelf drinks at Peculiar Pub, or $5 sangria, margarita, daiquiris, mixed drinks, and bottle beers, plus $6 mojitos at Cafe Espanol). So, if you can't make the show, stop by afterwards anyway.
And for everyone who has asked: Ta Daaaaaa, my BIRTHDAY LIST! wow.
1. Singing for Dummies (you think I'm kidding) 2. A new Mac iBook G4 battery (mine is sucking these days) 3. For someone to come over and figure out why my MBox isn't working 4. CDs from current chart-topping artists (helps me know what's current so i can write more hit songs) 5. Gavin DeGraw's latest cd 6. A new apartment in Brooklyn Heights
NEXT WEEK- Wed Aug 20 at the Bitter End

Dear friends-
I'm in classic rock land out on Long Island, working at a music camp for kids 10-16, leading a band of 12-year-olds towards a concert next week where they'll rock out on AC/DC, Joan Jett, and Guns n Roses songs. Thank God for earplugs ;-)
Then I'll be doing some rocking of my own:
My 25th Birthday (well, ok, my actual bday is Aug 21)

It would be an honor to ring in my next 25 years by performing for you.
I'm turning 25 and want YOU to come help me celebrate :-) I've picked the Bitter End, one of my favorite live music venues, and one that has supported me thru almost 5 years of NYC playing and career-building, now. This city has given me more than I could have dreamed of (and more crap than I could have dreamed of, too ;-), and I'm thrilled to be playing in it to mark this occasion. So, speaking of marking, mark your calendars now for
WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 20 8 PM The Bitter End!
with band, special guests, new songs, and general revelry.
Invite your offices, friends, kickboxing classmates, drinking partners, and favorite baristas.
Hit you up on the cell :-)

the Cutting Room TOMORROW and Los Angeles next week
Category: Music
Dear friends-
In this update:
1. Reminder for tomorrow 9:45 at CUTTING ROOM, NYC
2. Heading to LA to perform and network
1. Just a reminder about the last show in NYC till late August- tomorrow night- a full set with a relaxed meet/greet/network hangout after-party to follow. I'm bringing out the full electric band, and my friend, rapper PRAMANIK, for the occasion! I'd love if you'd join me before I take a break over the Summer to write and record.

The Cutting Room (19 W. 24th St, between Broadway and 6th Ave)
$12

AFTER PARTY TO FOLLOW FOR CONCERT ATTENDEES
For those who have not been to the Cutting Room, it's one of my favorite places to play because of the ultra-professional sound and lights, grand piano, delicious food and great drinks (best mojito I ever had- get the grapefruit one), and cool, classy vibe with huge artwork of rockers like Mick Jagger, Joni Mitchell, and Lenny Kravitz.
If you would like to arrange a group of 6+, let me know and I'll reserve best seats in advance for you.
.
To get there, take the FV or RW to 23rd St
Don't sit at home on a Friday night :-) Come join the party!
2. Next Wednesday, I head to Los Angeles for the first time to do some networking and to PERFORM at the Hollywood Borders store! I've never been to the West Coast, and don't know too too many people there- if you do, would you be so kind as to forward friends, family, and colleagues this email and recommend that they come check out the set at Borders next Friday night? And, if you know music and entertainment people in LA that you think I should meet, let me know! I'd say I can't wait for the LA sunshine and warmth, but it seems we've got that covered just fine on the East coast right about now. . .

FREE as usual, mini-set and CD signing
As the Borders tour wraps up in the coming weeks, and I head back to the drawing board for new recordings, songs, and performances, I've been thinking about what a busy first half of 2008 it's been, and again I realize how much support, encouragement, and advice I've received from all you NY-ers (fans and colleagues alike). Thank you again for being part of my progress.
1. It's been an incredible first half of the year, and I say that not just in the career sense. . . much has happened in my life lately that's made me re-examine who I am and what I'm doing. Call it a quarter-life crisis (I turn 25 this Summer :-) Anyway, like most of you have probably experienced, there's usually a "calm after the storm", so I'm looking forward to that, taking some time to get back to my writing, which I'm doing with production team Flytrap Music Productions, and also for whatever album may be next for me. Before I take the Summer off from playing NYC, I'm throwing one last bash- a concert and after-party next Friday night that I'd be so honored if you would consider attending. Considering I'll be in "writing mode" for a bit, it would mean even more to have your support and see you there. I'm bringing out the full electric band, and my friend, rapper PRAMANIK, for the occasion!

2. Check out the interview I did with FanClubX.com! Luis Pedron, who conducted it, saw me perform recently at the Phillipino-US Expo in Jersey City, and I thank him for the terrific interview :-)
Looking forward to sharing next Friday night with you-
