[3-08] Klayton Was Here…

IT'S FUNNY HOW TIME FLIES:

Tears For Fears said it best. It seems like it's been awhile since I've
posted here and I could only wish my reasons were because I'm hopelessly
lazy or I was on vacation this whole time. Maybe next year…

I have been working on a number of things, truth be told. At this very
moment I am in the studio, smack-dab in the middle of a mixdown and I wanted
to take a few minutes to clear my head and tell you what it is I'm actually
in the middle of mixing. Actually Grant Mohrman is in the middle of mixing
while I'm lurking in some dark studio corner typing away pretending to pay
attention, AND I can't actually tell you what is being mixed, so I've kinda
lied twice in this blog already. I'm off to a bad start…

Since I can't say who, I can at least tell you how. A group in the UK
approached me somewhat recently to do a remix. I don't often take on remix
work, so when I do I want it to count and I want it to be something I will
be into remixing. Fortunately for me, this is an artist that I not only
like, but listen to and feel is pushing some new ground in a scene that
could use artists with a different perspective. So I'm hours away from
wrapping up this track and would love to tell you all about it, but until
their label makes an official announcement about their new single, mum's the
word.

MUSIC:

Congrats again to our winners, participants and voters in the previous round
of the Celldweller "Take it and Break it" remix competition. Watch the
vid below if you don't know what in God's green earth I'm talking about. I
have also decided that I need to spice up my video performance a bit, b/c I
sometimes appear and sound as if I've fallen asleep or that Captain Coma hit
me upside the head with his 'death-stick'. So from here on in, I will be
simultaneously talking AND juggling 3 live great white sharks while filming.
That should keep the standard MTV viewer's attention for at least 30-45
seconds. I'll also feel so much better as an entertainer, giving people what
they're paying for. (P Diddy, watch out.)

I could continue to ramble, but I won't –

FIXT Music Indie Store - Update from Jimmy

Hey everyone,

As many of you may know, I have been working with Klayton for several years now and he recently began an indie label called FIXT Music. We're excited to have a growing roster of artists (Atlas Plug, lvl, Subkulture, and more to be announced soon). We also recently launched a new store front for Music, Digital Downloads/CDs, Clothing, etc... from FIXT at Store.FixtMusic.Com.

I'm glad to announce that we've just launched a new feature to FIXT Music and the FIXT Music Online Store called the "Indie Store." We have been working with so many independent bands (from the Celldweller Remix Competition, the FIXT Music Film/TV Licensing Production Music Library to simple online/Myspace acquaintances) that it became obvious that we should start a section of our store to sell and carry products from other great indie artists. So, we've done just that. It's still very much in its infancy - but I'm glad to announce that we have just added our first 2 artists to the Indie Store, with several more to be added in the next weeks. I hope you will stop by the site, check out the music and consider supporting some great indie artists. There are artist bios and music previews available for each artist.

Here's a brief look at the first few artists to be featured in the store:

Delta-S - perhaps best described as an electronic singer-songwriter. This is the solo project of Lyte, who also contributed 2 "Frozen" Remixes to the Celldweller Remix Competition Round 2, including one track as a finalist and 'Klayton's Pick.' Delta-S is also a graphic artists and is responsible for the digital colouring and compositing of the artwork for the Celldweller Remix Competition Round 3 "Switchback" website art. Delta-S' brand new Dec '07 release Voyage To Isis is available for $12.95.

dRAWBACKS - UK electronic/breakbeat act with extensive Film/TV credits and also co-members of Pitchshifter. Their debut album iBomb is full of blasting-beats and aggressive cuts. dRAWBACKS have also begun working with FIXT Music's Production Music catalogue for Film/TV Licensing. The album has not received major US distribution and has previously only been available as a 25$+ import from the UK. It is now available from FIXT for only $15.

Thanks for supporting Indie Music,
Jimmy Rhodes

A HOLIDAY STORY & GIFT FROM KLAYTON (New Celldweller Track - Free Download)

Ho ho ho. (I'd like to make it clear right off the bat that not a single one of these "ho's" is a noun…) It's that time of year again – a time for
giving and a time for reflection. Well, maybe I'm just saying that because I'm sitting in an airport waiting for a flight. That's probably more likely, but I'll chalk it up to the holidays and that "holiday spirit." I have to admit I have had thoughts of doing some 'giving' this holiday season and that ties directly into the reason that I'm running on 24 + hours without sleep. Now, this is actually kind of a Christmas story, so go make some brownies, pour yourself some hot chocolate and let me tell it to you:

There once was this little red-headed kid (red like a fire truck, not like Ginger from Gilligan's Island.) He was pretty unpopular as a child and learned to keep his mouth shut and just observe, lest his ass get kicked by the mean 5th and 6th graders who reveled in their pre-pubescent strength and superiority. It wasn't long til Red (as we'll call him from now on in this story) figured out that around the same time every year, there seemed to be a surgence of excitement revolving around some fat dude in a red outfit. As legend has it, fatty somehow shoe-horns his way down a chimney and brings the good children gifts. Simultaneously there was also another story of a king born into humility, spending the first part of his life in a barn because there was no place else to stay. Now this story was way more punk-rock and it appealed a lot more to Red than this stupid fat guy in a red outfit. The problem was that no matter what story people used as an excuse to celebrate during this time of year, all Red really ever seemed to glean from this season was an overwhelming sense of selfishness that didn't seem to have much to do with the reasons people claimed to be celebrating in the first place. It wasn't long til Red gave up on the whole thing and decided it was just another excuse people had made up to drive the masses into frenzies at retail stores and the like, driving them by some propaganda of fear or obligation – fear of not buying the right gifts or getting enough of the right gifts or the strain of being obligated to get someone something because you have to.

Fast forward a number of years. This poor little bugger's head is still constantly swimming in thought and many times the only way for him to hold on to shreds of sanity is to unload these thoughts onto paper, thus making room in his head for more thoughts. He then takes these thoughts and puts them to song and for some odd reason there are people around who are genuinely interested in these scraps of his own life. So how does this at all tie into me and this whole rant being a "Christmas Story"?? Well as it turns out, I kinda know Red and this is where it all comes together: Over the last few years he has unconsciously taken stock of his life, his art and the meaning of it all. Things have changed in his head, and it's a very good thing. Part of that change is that he has found some honesty and purity in this season after all – it's just not going to be found on the TV or in newspapers. There are people who give unselfishly and that is the coolest thing of all. So I, uh "Red" I mean knows that there have been some very nice people out there who have been very supportive and patient and I, (I mean "He" dammit!!) wanted to do something for those people specifically.

Here comes the part about "24+ hours without sleep…." I am doing something I would ordinarily never ever do – I've decided to give away a Demo from the upcoming Celldweller CD. The song has been finished in it's demo form for awhile, but it's very unfinished compared to what it will sound like (in my mind at least.) Almost everything here will be replaced when I record it for real - The drums, vocals, synths, bass, guitars – everything.

So I decided to get it "rough mixed" and stayed up in between returning from Brazil and departing to my next destination to get this presentable for you. I really wish to make a hundred disclaimers for how this sounds and what is yet to be changed or fixed, but I'm too tired to care at this point and it really wasn't the reason I wanted to give it to you to begin with. You can decide what you like. I guarantee there will be those that will like this version over the final version when it's done – so be it. I only hope this is some small reward for those faithful Cellmates who have been patient to this point. So with no further adieu, I present you my gift to you this Holiday season, "Birthright" (formerly referred to as "Baseline") I'll catch you all next year.

Visit Store.FixtMusic.com & Download "Birthright" (Demo)

-------------------------
Birthright:
"Get back up, what are you waiting for this time? "
I'm over playing with this plight
But I'm still handcuffed, ball-gagged, facedown to the floor
And I'm waiting while I'm hating what I'm waiting for

It's time to take ahold of what belongs to me
It's time to walk away with no apologies
These voices in the mirror start quietly
And now they're screaming back at me

Don't back down
Holding on until my hands and mind are bleeding
This is my birthright
I'm so sick of feeling like I'm helpless
This is over tonight

Don't back up, your ass is to the wall again and
Aren't you sick of wasting so much time?
And yes it's true you're a fool if you think you were born
To be waiting while you're hating what you're waiting for

How could have I been so earthbound
with my heart in the depths and my face in the ground?
it's time to uproot myself and move on

How could have I been making sound
When my mouth and my lungs had both fused to the ground?
it's time to uproot myself and move on

The voices in my head have all begun to sing
(the voices in your head have all begun to sing)
and they sure as hell hope I am listening
(I sure as hell hope you are listening)

Klayton Brazil Update 12-17-07 (w/Video)

Hey everyone,

So I heard back from Klayton that the show happened (Celldweller & Growling Machines at TRIBE 7 Years Festival in Sau Paulo, Brazil). They were plagued with some unfortunate technical problems for about half of the set, but from the footage starting to show up on Youtube it looks like it wasn't even noticeable from the audience.

We've posted some fan footage to our Cellout TV Youtube Page and should be getting some official video to edit and post properly in the coming weeks. There are also tons of bootleg videos popping up on Youtube already this morning and we've added a bunch of them to our favorites list and Celldweller Playlist on our Youtube page. Here's a few to check out in the blog - the rest you'll find at Youtube.com/CelloutTV

More coming soon,
Jimmy Rhodes

Klayton Brazil Update 12-13-07

Hi. I should have been more responsible about writing everyone and letting
you know I (and Thomas) made it alive and well, but I went right to work as
soon as I got here and it never happened.

So that being said, it was an interesting experience right out of the gate.
Plane was delayed from Chicago to Miami and we were almost positive we were
going to miss our plane to Sau Paulo. By some small miracle they held the
plane for the few of us that were on the delayed flight and we (and more
unbelievably) our luggage made the flight. So we showed up in Brazil and had
to go through a few long lines at customs but we ended up alive and well at
our destination.

We went to eat at an authentic Brazillian steakhouse last night and I was surprised
when I tried to roll down the back window while we were driving and an alarm
started going off. Turns out the windows are all bullet-proof and the window
doesn't actually roll down, but sets off an alarm instead. Ooops.....

We're in a safe neighborhood and things are good here. I think brazillians
overall are much nicer than some countries. Shows that $ doesn't have to
effect your outlook on things. I'm still a bit confused about the food, but
it's pretty good overall and I haven't gotten sick yet. :)

Ok, I've rambled enough. I'll send another update if/when I have time.
Sat/Sun is showtime so I don't anticipate being around much and we have a
lot to do to be ready for the show.

Be good, y'all -

Klayton Brazil Update 12-12-07

I just got word from Klayton that he and Thomas (Klayton's Live Show Manager & member of Remorse Code) have landed safely in Sau Paulo, Brazil this morning. They are already in the studio with Gabe & Riktam of Growling Machines preparing to rehearse for the TRIBE show this Sunday.

The news of them landing safely came as a big relief actually - yesterday Klayton & Thomas had to travel from Detroit to Chicago through Ice & Snow, finalize their visas (which had already delayed flight plans once), then had a delayed flight out of Chicago due to some technical problems with the plane. The delay almost made them miss their connecting flight in Miami so I was anxious to hear the update this morning.

Klayton will be sending some photos and updates (I'm also trying to get ahold of some video for you all as well) throughout the week. I'll keep you all posted!
