TRACKITDOWN INTERVIEW

The Celtec Twins! Bringing you Irish Techno on Advanced Records!
2005 was a good year for Techno and 2006 looks sets to be even better. The Celtic Twins have turned out hit techno tracks fresh from Ireland and released them on the label 'Advanced Records'. Jess from the Trackitdown team caught up with the twins to get the low down.

Jess: Hi guys! First things firstare you Celts and are you actual twins?

C.T: Yes we are twin brothers and were from Ireland.

Jess: I cant think of another actual twin duo involved in dance music! Does twinship make it very easy for you to agree on the final mastering of tracks or do you have different styles in the studio?

C.T: Well a lot of stuff happens long before the mastering stages that could potentially cause havoc. But we get on well and usually come to some sort of agreement. If not we usually have a fencing dual. The first one to draw blood gets to decide.

Jess: Have you both always been interested in music? What made you decide to pursue it as a career?

C.T: Yip from a very young age. We both collected a lot of music, different styles and Genres etc and it was always something that we wanted to create ourselves.

Jess: Tell us about your releases to date?

C.T: We have had 3 singles released on an Irish Compilation label complied by Phil Kieran. We also had our first full EP entitled We were kingz EP released on Advanced records in October 2005 which got support from BBC radio one and Laurent Garnier to name a few. Our Second EP The Goddess of War EP has just been released by Advanced and is available on your super website!

Jess: Describe your musical style in 5 words?

C.T: Dance music for grown ups.

Jess: What is your favorite piece of equipment in the studio?

C.T: Well we could go on about the Celtic drums we use but it wouldnt be fair to just mention one over another so we will say Logic, which of course is software rather than a piece of equipment so to speak but its amazing! Its brought us a lot of happiness over the last number of years. If only it was a womanwe could marry it and give it babies.

Jess: What do you class as your break into the dance music scene?

C.T: Weve never really thought about it in terms of getting a break. We just enjoy what we do and plan to keep doing it. I think people get too hung up on trying to get media attention etc. The important thing is that you creatively push yourself and believe in what you do. Things will happen if its meant to happen.

Jess: Who are your dance music idols?

C.T: We dont idolise anybody in all honesty but we do have a lot of respect and admiration for many producers. There are so many musicians, bands, singers, songwriters, DJs and producers who have influenced us over the years from so many Genres. Too many to mention. In terms of Dance music there has been a few names that popped up quite a bit including Carl Cox, Laurent Garnier, Umek and Phil Kieran. But really thats only the tip of the iceberg.

Jess: PC or Mac for music production?

C.T: Either. Its the final result that counts. We have used both. As long as it is a powerful machine. Shouldnt go too far wrong then.

Jess: Do you DJ out and about or are you purely in it for the productions?

C.T: Music production is by far the most important aspect of what we do but yes we do DJ and have been for quite a few years now. With more releases we hope that more gigs will come our way. We are in the process of converting to Serato Scratch at the moment. The Digital age has been too hard to ignore. We still love vinyl though!

Jess: What have you got in store for fans of your music in 2006?

C.T: Dang! We didnt know we had any fans. We have a great label behind us; were like one big happy family. Advanced is spreading her wings and signing some great and a wide range of music. We have more releases planned with advanced as well as remixes.
