~FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS~
FAQS:
I often get asked the same questions so I decided I'd do a blog that I could just refer people to! Here are some popular questions I've answered: QUESTION~ Why don't you return my comment? ANSWER~ First of all let me thank you ALL for your wonderful messages! It's like getting gifts ALL WEEK LONG! It takes me 40-60 mins per day just to read them all (but I really DO read EVERY comment). There are days that I return comments for 4 or 5 hours, and other days that I'm too busy to return more than a few so I hope you understand how hard I try. I realize it's important to develop a relationship with my fans and MANY of you have become my friends. I love getting to know you guys and if you've been my friend since day one... then you know that up to about 100,000 friends I returned 95% of ALL messages. With over a quarter of a million friends it's quite simply impossible. I get 500-1000+ messages each day. I prefer comments to inbox replies because there's too much spam sent to my inbox and it takes forever to go from one to the next. I read EVERY comment but maybe only 1/2 of my inbox. Make sure you let me know if you bought my music (stealing it doesn't count), or if you have my song on your page, or have me in your top friends etc.... Those comments get my priority attention and I go out of my way to return them.
QUESTION~ When is your CD coming out? Are labels interested? When will you go on tour again? Are you coming to (insert your city) to sing? ANSWER~ I've been signed to KonLive/Cherrytree/Interscope and have an amazing team of people working on my career right now. ~Click for details on me getting signed~ We're focusing on FLIPSYDE in 2008 (I've been added to the group) and Flipsyde is my priority but I'll have a solo album for you in the near future as well. I've recorded over 60 songs in the past two years so I'll keep putting up solo tracks (that won't be on my album) on my MySpace until my solo album is released. In regards to touring - I had a mini tour last spring and I've opened for some major artists (check my profile). I'll be on tour with Flipsyde soon - keep checking my profile for details.
QUESTION~ What concerts have you been to recently? ANSWER~ I saw Paramore in April, The Pack a couple of months before that (I recorded a song with them). I've been to several COLBY O'DONIS shows - as many of you know, he and I are good friends, we have a song on my profile. I saw Fergie live a few months ago! My sister and I got to meet her and her mom =) . My manager also manages Rooney and they opened for Fergie. Before that I saw Robin Thicke (I opened for him and got to meet him) - he's amazing. I also saw/met Pretty Ricky, Bobbie Valentino, NLT and The Pussycat Dolls when I did shows with them.

QUESTION~ Can you give me your sister's MySpace link? ANSWER~ No! She's only a freshman in high school so we like to keep her safe. When she turns 16 I may add her to my top friends. =)
QUESTION~ Chantelle, everyone says that I have a really great voice and I may be the next Christina Aguilera, how do I get started singing? ANSWER~ In my opinion, every singing voice (even a gifted, amazing one) gets better with training... and finding a vocal coach should be a priority for you! I started one hour bi-weekly vocal lessons at the age of 8. I learned breathing techniques, ways to protect my vocal chords, worked on my range (both up and down) and practiced songs to perform. Choose a coach that does performances in your area and it will be a great way to get exposure! Where can you find a coach? Check at churches, local musical theatre groups, go to fairs/competitions/talent shows and ask the people that you think sing well who they use! In my area there is often a long waiting list to get in with a great coach. My mentor and vocal coach in the Bay Area is Raz Kennedy (SF) - he's coached Metallica, Counting Crows, Hilary Duff, Aaron Carter, Davey Havoc (AFI) and many others! I also STRONGLY urge you to audition at your local musical theatre...you can get excellent training in acting, singing and dancing for the least amount of money!
QUESTION~ How did you get discovered? ANSWER~ I've been dancing since I was 2, modeling since I was 3, singing & acting since I was 5. I'm driven... I live it...and I love it. I've never gone looking for "it" - "it" is just what I DO and who I am! I'll work in the entertainment industry for the rest of my life. At the age of 5 my dance teacher (Alyson Meador) "discovered" that I could sing so she made a little tap/song & dance number for me (and I decided I liked singing even more than dancing). While singing at an art & wine festival (I was 9), I was "discovered" and asked to audition for a musical theatre production at a wonderful children's theatre in the Bay Area of Ca (CMTSJ)... I did, I got a great part and I "discovered" that musical theatre was really fun and I got lead parts easily. While in a clothing shop (age 3) my mom & I were "discovered" and asked to model for a clothing catelog...so my mom's agent signed me (my mom was already a model). My new agent then started getting me print jobs and commercials. I started acting classes & my acting coaches "discovered" I was a hard worker and referred me to castings and I got jobs. Clients "discovered" that I'm on time, a hard worker and easy to get along with so I kept getting referrals. As for my music, check out this article for more info: ~Click for my Zero Gossp Interview~ For me it's been a journey, not a discovery...each little "discovery" leads to the next!
 Me age 9!
QUESTION~ I want to record a demo, can you tell me what to do? How do I find a producer? ANSWER~ Contact the recording studios in your area and ask for recommendations for local producers. Studio rental alone is $400 & up! If you can find a producer who already has a track & song for you to do and is willing to charge you $1,000 or less (including studio time) consider yourself lucky. The better the studio equipment & producer, the more it will cost you (unless you have connections). Get a song up on MySpace! The morning after I posted my very first song (THINGS I DO) my friends started calling me to let me know that I was number 2 in the Top Artists on MySpace (right under Tila and above Hollywood Undead) - so needless to say I WAS VERY EXCITED! I stayed in the top 15 for several months and producers started contacting me like crazy. I always have producers in my top friends so check them out! They charge for their work but I recommend anyone I put in my top friends. Check out Phivestarr if you live near Atlanta, I have several producer friends in LA... check them out in my top friends and ask what they charge (Don't ask me...ask them).
QUESTION~ I want to model, what do I do? Do you think I'm pretty enough? ANSWER~ Since I seem to have insulted a couple of 5'2" girls on Myspace...I tend to avoid this question. But the reality is YOU HAVE TO BE TALL to make a living modeling - past the size of a child size 12, you need to be at least 5'7" to get high end agency jobs. I'm just a touch under 5'6" and I no longer do the Macys/Mervyns/FASHION print jobs that I did ages 3 thru 14! Not all models are pretty... contact an agent (not me) and get THEIR opinion on your look. To model, or to go on commercial or acting auditions...you need an agent.
QUESTION~ How do I find an agent? ANSWER~ Look in your phone book under Talent/Modeling Agencies. Often, if you google CASTING OFFICE (add your city)- they will have a list of Talent/Modelng Agencies on their site that they recommend. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THOSE PEOPLE THAT STOP YOU IN THE MALL ASKING YOU TO ATTEND THEIR "MODELING" SEMINAR. You can get your own agent - you don't need someone to find you one. Keep in mind that if agencies are turning you down...SO WILL CLIENTS! IT's harder to get a JOB than an agent!.. Call any agency and they will tell you the steps to take (send in photos & resume etc...) before they will interview you. YOU ALSO DO NOT NEED TO SUBMIT EXPENSIVE PHOTOS....have someone you know take the pictures of you!.. Your new agent will want HIS/HER photographer to shoot you so don't spend a lot of money!
QUESTION~ WHAT AGENCY ARE YOU WITH? ANSWER~ I was with Marla Dell Talent in SF growing up (my sister, Savannah (15) is still with the agency...check her out in the s Teen Pottery Barn catelog or the new Klutz book). As of 2007 I have an agent working with me at CAA in Los Angeles for acting. A different agent there handles my bookings for music. I'm VERY lucky and AMAZINGLY blessed to have CAA on my team. ~Click for info on CAA~
QUESTION~ CAN YOU HELP ME FIND AN AGENT/PRODUCER/MANAGER? ANSWER~ I'm sorry but that could potentially become a career haha. I get several people each week asking... if I gave my agents and manager all their numbers they would disown me.
QUESTION~ How do you stay skinny? ANSWER~ I'm not skinny! I have A LOT of muscle. I lift weights once a week, I run 5+ miles twice a week and I go to work-out/hip hop/yoga/kickboxing etc... type of classes twice a week as well. I don't eat a lot of junk food, rarely ever eat fast food, no soft drinks or alcohol ever ...but trust me, I get made fun of for the amount of food I can consume for lunch & dinner haha. For me, the key is to not ever let myself get more than 5 pounds overweight!
QUESTION~ What is your nationality and/or religion? ANSWER~ I'm of mixed heritage and religious backgrounds (English/Irish/German/American Indian/French/Polish/Russian/Jewish/Christian on my mother's side and Greek/Swedish/Danish/African American/German/Mormon/Christian on my father's side). My roots literally define The American Melting Pot haha =)
QUESTION~ Your profile says you've never been drunk? Really? Do your friends drink? ANSWER~ It's true. I've never even tried drinking, drugs or smoking. And yes, I'd say that 95% of my friends drink and some smoke, some do drugs. My dad drinks every now and then, my mom rarely does, they set a great example for me. They made me promise not to drink until I was 18 and said it was my choice after that. I honestly have never been bothered by peer pressure. Most people respect that I don't drink and it hasn't been hard for me not to. And everyone benefits from my friendship... I'm always the driver! Why do I choose not to? I've seen some friends make fools out of themselves, I'd rather eat my calories, I've had friends die (or suffer financial consequences) because of it, I like to be in control, and I'm fun without it ;P When I'm 21 I may drink socially but I guarantee that you won't see me making an idiot out of myself or abusing it in any way. I have no desire to ever smoke or try drugs of any kind.
QUESTION~ What kind of make-up/skincare/haircare products do you use? ANSWER~ I use Bare Essentials for my foundation, and I pretty much stick to MAC for everything else (I get a 40% discount)! I LOVE Zoom mascara & Spice lipliner (it goes with just about everything). Tempting eyeshadow is really pretty. I change up everything else. I don't wear a lot of make-up during the day, I prefer more of a natural look! My mom, sister and I all use Kerastase products for our hair (www.kerastase.com). As for skin - my sister and I have an amazing dermatologist and a lot of my MySpace friends have called to order things, the staff is great so feel free to contact them & tell them I sent you: ~Click for the site I buy my skincare line on~
QUESTION~ Where do you get your clothes? ANSWER~
Fred Segal on Melrose is probably the place that I spend the most money at! I buy a lot of the clothes that I perform in at Miss Sixty (I love that they have a small quantity so chances are, no one else will have on the same outfit as me). I can always find something fast at BeBe so if I need something and don't have time to look around, BeBe is where I head to! I also shop at a lot of boutiques on Robertson Blvd such as Kitson, Sky, Paige & Madison (there's a Madison across the street from Fred Segal on Melrose also).
QUESTION~ WHAT ARE YOUR GREATEST ASSETS CHANTELLE? ANSWER~ My work ethic first and foremost! I'm a workaholic, I'm dependable, easy to get along with and willing to learn. In regards to WHATEVER I'm doing (school, acting, recording...whatever) I work however long it takes to get something done and I don't complain. I don't offend people on purpose and I'm down to earth. I put in as many hours as necessary. I do feel that I have good morals but I'm not preachy or perfect and I really DO have friends from all walks of life. It's not my goal in life to be someone's role model so it surprises me that I get so many comments on MySpace saying this! But I do consider my clean lifestyle to be an asset. QUESTION~ Can you help me meet the Jonas Brothers? ANSWER~ No... I don't know them, I've never even met them haha. I have no clue why so many of you keep asking me that =) haha. QUESTION~ Will you chat on IM with me, call me, marry me, date me (or do other unmentionable things with me/to me), send me photos etc... ANSWER~ I'm here for my music silly. BUT... I have set up a special phone number through SAY NOW for you to leave me voice messages and I do call random people back each week so give me a call! My number is on the top of my profile!
