Call for Entry Final Deadline
Awards Program Recognizes Excellence in Book Creative Design, Manufacture, & Printing
Chicago, IL - The Chicago Book Clinic, one of the nation's oldest and largest associations for book publishers, printers, editors and designers, has extended the deadline for entries in its 56th Chicago Book and Media Awards. The new deadline date to submit entries is July 12, 2007.
The Chicago Book and Media Awards demonstrate the outstanding quality of publishing in the central U.S. and Canada and recognize the importance of books and multimedia to our society. The Central US Publishing Community is invited to enter their best work. The new deadline is Thursday, July 12, 2007. The 2007 Chicago Book and Media Awards show will take place on Thursday, November 8, 2007, at the Chicago City Centre Hotel, 300 East Ohio Street, Chicago.
Judging
The 2007 Chicago Book and Media Awards honor excellence in the planning, supervision, and execution of the physical and visual aspects of publishing media. Books are judged for general excellence in book manufacture - specifically for design, typography, composition, illustrations, paper, printing, special treatments and binding. Interactive electronic publications and e-books are judged for their general excellence in concept and execution - specifically design and structure of the information as well as the interaction, interface, and richness of the information environment. The judging panel is a distinguished group of publishing professionals chosen for their knowledge of bookmaking. The show will include an exhibit of the Midwest's best publications, the presentation of awards, and a dinner for professionals in the publishing industry.
Eligibility
Books and interactive electronic publications not previously submitted and published between April 2006 and May 2007 are eligible. Entries must have been published, manufactured, or designed in the central United States or Canada*. Advertising and promotional pieces, database or text–based search systems, and noneducational electronic games are not eligible. Awards are presented to the top entries in each of 13 (thirteen) broad categories, including Children's Books, Scholarly/Reference Books, Handmade Books, E-Books, School Publishing and General Trade.
*Eligible states and provinces include: Alabama, Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Wisconsin and Canadian provinces of Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, Nunavut or Northwest Territories.
Entry Form
Entry forms may be obtained at www.chicagobookclinic.org. Fees to submit entries are $50 (members) and $75 (nonmembers), with discounts for multiple submissions.

Education Seminar - May 23, 2007
"File Preparation: Industry Update" Date: Wednesday, May 23, 2007 1:30 to 4:00 pm Where: Scott Foresman, 1900 E. Lake Avenue, Glenview, Illinois
What are the decisions we face when determining the best method to developing book files? What application programs are being used and are they up to date? Is this a service that should be outsourced, domestic or overseas? Either way, are the files going to be compatible with the vendor printing the book?
For each of us the correct answer to these questions may be different. And what was the right answer last year may not be the same for this year. But you will only know that if you know the facts. The facts will be presented by our experienced panel during the CBC File Preparation: Industry Update seminar. The panel will consist of Jim Byrne: Manager of Electronic Production at Scott Foresman, Molly Redenbaugh: Director of Product Development at Publication Services, Brenda Brown: Prepress Manager at Malloy Incorporated; and Powell Simonton, Courier Prepress Supervisor.
During the seminar there will be ample time to discuss the pros and cons of industry wide topics as well as specific issues you are currently dealing with.
Cost: $25.00 per person for CBC members and $30.00 per person for nonmembers. 10% discount to members enrolling 3-9 employees if paid in advance.
Scott Foresman, 1900 E. Lake Avenue, Glenview, Illinois. Mapquest.
The cost is $25.00 per person for CBC members and $30.00 per person for nonmembers. To RSVP, call (773) 561-4150 or email ChgoBookClinic@aol.com.

Will you be at the industry event of the season?
Current mood: accomplished
The Chicago Book Clinic and its Sponsors present The 33rd Annual PRESIDENT'S NIGHT Join us on April 26th from 6pm -9 pm for our annual President's Night event as we recognize the outstanding contributions to publishing made by this year's honorees. The program recognizes achievement and service in the publishing and media industries. Once again, outstanding students from area universities will receive scholarships and awards will be presented as highlights of the event. Keynote Speaker Dave Durand is a best selling author, executive of a $250 million company and a trainer of well over 100,000 individuals in sales, marketing, and business management. He speaks not just from theory but from experience.
From this experience Dave sought to find what makes others more successful than the rest of the population. What Dave discovered is a pattern in a group of people he calls "Legacy Achievers" (highly motivated and successful people who seem to get more time with what appears to be less effort). Dave will share some of his experiences and offer some inspiration, on how you can achieve a legacy of your own.
Join us as the CBC recognizes two outstanding individuals who have achieved legacies in their own right.
