Interview with BO BROWN SINGS 2008
Category: Music

Interview with BO BROWN SINGS

Ch.L.: Would you please introduce yourself to the readers and tell us something about your history.

B.B.S: YES IAM CURRENTLY WORKING ON MY CD IT WILL BE CALLED BELIEVE MY JOURNEY HAS BEGUN. IT IS SOMETHING LONG OVER DUE SINCE MY ROOTS COME FROM MUSIC. MY FATHER WAS A SPANISH RECORDING ARTIST AND HIS FATHER WAS A MUSICAL ARTIST. I GUESS IT WAS JUST IN MY BLOOD AND SINCE A TOODLER I CARRIED MY GUITAR AROUND SINGING, SO IT JUST CAME NATURAL.  THE ABILITY TO PICK AND SING IS SOMETHING THAT IS TAKEN AND EXPRESSED WITH LOVE AS WE REACH THOSE WHO LISEN TO THE WORDS THE LYRICSSUNG.  KIND OF LIKE LETTING OTHERS SEE THE REAL YOU.

Ch.L.: What did you do before you got into the music business?

B.B.S.: I WAS IN SALES WITH THE CAR BUSINESS. I STARTED OUT AS A SALES PERSON EVENTUALLY BECAME A FLEET MANAGER FOR ELLIS BROOKS CHEVROLET IN SAN FRANSISCO CA.

Ch.L.: Country Music has many new fans in Europe who may be learning about you for the first time. How would you describe the music you play to someone who has never seen or heard you before?

B.B.S.: I WOULD SAY THAT MY SONGS ARE WARM FELT EXPERIENCES THAT WHEN I FELT THE NEED TO RELEASE WHAT I WAS FEELING, I SAT WITH A PEN AND PAPER AND WROTE WHAT I FELT.  SO IT WAS EASY FOR ME TO SING FROM WITHIN BECAUSE OF MY BEING ABLE TO DO THAT.  IN FACT ALL MY SONGS ARE SUNG WITH EMOTION STRAIGHT FROM THE HEART.

Ch.L.: How did you find the title for the CD and what inspired you?

B.B.S.: THE SONGS I WRITE I HAVE EXPERIENCED.  THE WORDS ARE SUNG BY AN IMPACT OF EMOTIONS.  WHEN I PICK UP MY GUITAR THE WORDS SOMEHOW FLOW.  EACH SONG BEING SUNG HAS  A STRONG STORY BEING TOLD.  I STARTED THINKING ABOUT THE TITLE AND KNEW THAT HERE WAS MY STORY. TO BELIEVE IN WHAT I WAS DOING AND WHY.  TO CONTINUE ON WITH MY FATHER'S LEGACY TO PUT THE BROWN SOUND OUT IN A STORY UNTOLD.

Ch.L.: Tell us what the process is like to create an album.

B.B.S.: INVOLVED, TIME CONSUMING, PATIENCE, ARRANGING AND REARRANGING FRUSTRATION. COSTLY PREPARATION. MENTAL PROCESS. FOCUSED.

Ch.L.: How much do your songs influence your audience?

B.B.S.: ALMOST EVERYONE SENDS THE SAME FEED BACK.  THE SOUND THE LYRICS ARE WHAT CAPTIVATES MY AUDIENCES.

Ch.L.: Who do you look up to musically and where do your musical roots come from?

B.B.S: MY BIGGEST MUSICAL INFLUENCE WAS MY FATHER.  HE WAS ONE OF NM'S BIGGEST INSPIRATION IN SPANISH MUSIC.  HIS LEGACY IS STILL IN FORCE FOR ALL THOSE WHO KNEW AND LOVED HIS MUSIC.  THE NAME STILL DRAWS LISTENERS AND RADIO STATIONS STILL PLAY HIS MUSIC CONTINOUSLY.  I REALLY DIDN'T KNOW WHO MY FATHER REALLY WAS UNTIL I WAS OLD ENOUGH TO UNDERSTAND THE TRUE MENAING OF MUSIC.  AS I HEARD THOSE WHO SPOKE ABOUT HIM THROUGHTOUT THE YEARS IT WAS THEN THAT I BEGAN TO UNDERSTAND WHO MY FATHER WAS.  AND HOW MUCH OF A LASTING IMPACT HE LEFT ON ALL OF US.

Ch.L.: What do you think about today's Country Music versus its roots, and where do you see it going in the future?

B.B.S.: THAT LEAVES A LOT TO BE DESIRED.  THE TRUE PIONEERS OF COUNTRY COULD NEVER BE FORGOTTEN AND PROBABLY COULDN'T SING HALF THE STUFF OUT THERE TODAY.  THOUGH SOME CHANGES HAVE COME INTO PLAY WITH PERFORMANCES, INSTRUMENTS, SOUNDS, IAM PRETY SURE THAT COUNTRY IS HERE TO STAY.  YOU CAN ADD A TOUCH OF THIS AND A TOUCH OF THAT BUT I HAVE NEVER HEARD ANYONE SAY ANYTHING NEGATIVE ABOUT THE GOOD OLD COUNTRY SOUND BACK IN THE DAY.  WHILE I HAVE MY OWN STYLE I WOULD LOVE TO GET BACK TO THAT OLD PICKIN. BUT LIKE EVERYTHING IN LIFE THE CHANGES COME FOR THOSE WHO WOULD DARE.  I THINK THAT EVERYONE TRIES A LITTLE BIT OF CROSS OVER FROM EVERY TYPE OF MUSIC.  BUT THAT OLE COUNTRY THANG STILL STANDS STRONG AND IS HERE TO STAY.

Ch.L.: In your opinion, what is the biggest difference between "traditional" and "new" country music?

B.B.S.: THEIR IS A BIG DIFFERANCE.  EVERYTHING MOVES AND WITH TOMORROW COMES CHANGE NOTHING EVER STAYS THE SAME.  IT ALL DEPENDS ON WHO'S POINT OF VIEW WERE LOOKING AT IT FROM.  IAM A TRADITONAL OLE BOY AND WOULDN'T MIND IF SOMEONE SANG THEIR NEW COUNTRY VERSION AS LONG AS IT WAS COUNTRY.

Ch.L.: How did you get into Country Music ... is there a story behind it?

B.B.S.: YES MY FATHER CROSSED OVER FROM SPANISH MUSIC TO COUNTRY WAY BERFOE THE WORD EVEN EXISTED. AS A RESULT I GREW UP LISTENING TO COUNTRY AND IT JUST STAYED WITH ME.  I JUST TOOK TO IT AND IT TOOK TO ME.

Ch.L.: What can your fans expect to see when they see you in concert?

B.B.S.: EXPLOSIVE ELECTRIFYING PERFORMANCE LEAVING THEM WANTING MORE.

Ch.L.: What are your plans for the future?

B.B.S.:  TO CONTINUE GOING FORWARD WITH MY MUSICAL CAREER AND TO FULFILL ALL MY DREAMS OF ACCOMPLIHMENT.

Christian Lamitschka's success on MySpace is overwhelming

It is already more than 10 years that Christian Lamitschka is working for CountryHome.  In his editor role he has done countless interviews with country stars which can be found in Country Home under interviews.  He is also responsible for the presentation of current CD in CountryHome.

When he started his profile on www.MySpace.com/ChristianLamitschka - which is a quite common thing to do in the US - things snowballed.

Within a very short time it became well-known that he had opened a blog there, http://Blog.MySpace.com/ChristianLamitschka.  The blog now has 200 registered readers and the CountryHome forum / message board, http://Groups.MySpace.com/CountryHomeMagazine which he also started has 3000 registered readers.  It is the biggest country music forum in Germany and one of the most recognized ones on MySpace which has been run by a German Country Music journalist ever.

Christian Lamitschka states that his friends list on MySpace consists of 13000 people now.  They regularly read the newsletter that he publishes every Thursday.  The newsletter of course is not limited to his friends  on My Space.  People that are not represented on MySpace but wants to receive up-to-date Country Music news via E-Mail should send an E-Mail to Christian Lamitschka Ch.Lamitschka@t-online.de  The same is true for the charity project 'HelpCharity' that he started on the 1st of August 2008.  More information about this project can be found under www.HelpCharity.info and under www.MySpace.com/HelpCharity.  Help Charity supports the Handicapped Children Association in the US and Zwerg Nase e.V. in Germany.

..
Nashville, TN (November 20, 2008) -- Baltimore-based country entertainer Richie Fields takes the 1 spot on the Y'ALLWIRE.com Top Country Video Chart with his debut video, "Man Enough To Cry."  Fields' warm baritone is striking a chord with country fans, and positive reviews are pouring in from around the globe.  GACTV.com added the video to its lineup last week, and the poignant ballad continues to resonate with listeners. Produced and directed by Jarboe for Bell-Jarboe Films (Charlie Daniels, Michael W. Smith, John Anderson), the video was shot at locations throughout Nashville and includes stunning footage from atop the city's famed Walking Bridge over the Cumberland River. "Man Enough To Cry" follows the journey of a five-year old boy, broken-hearted at the loss of his mother, through to adulthood and eventually to his father's passing.  It is a heartwarming story of loss and fulfillment, written by Richie - and performed with passion.

THE BART CROW BAND’S 4TH ANNUAL MUSIC FOR MIKA EVENT RAISES THOUSANDS FOR CHILDREN’S CHARITY!

THE BART CROW BAND'S 4TH ANNUAL MUSIC FOR MIKA EVENT RAISES THOUSANDS FOR CHILDREN'S CHARITY!

Nashville, TN-November 20, 2008-"Music For Mika is one of the most important gifts that music has allowed me to be a part of.  I created this event simply to bring a smile to the faces of my dearest friends who found the courage and strength to let the Lord guide them through a heartbreaking time in their lives." Bart Crow has seen Music For Mika grow considerably over the last four years from a small town gathering to a significant annual event that generates thousands of dollars in the name of charity. Mika Michele Terry passed away on June 23, 2005 at the age of 6 months in a tragic accident. She was the youngest daughter to Mikey and Michele Terry. The 4th annual Music For Mika event headlined by the Bart Crow Band was held on Saturday, October 11th in Maypearl, Texas bringing in over 2000 supporters and raising $38,000.  It was a night of stellar music featuring the Bart Crow Band and other Texas acts including the Mike McClure Band, 1100 Springs, Kyle Hunt Band, Joey Green Band, The Coalmen and The Cannon's.  A large percentage of the proceeds were donated to KIDS AND CARS, a national nonprofit child safety organization dedicated to preventing injuries and death to children in non-traffic, non-crash motor vehicle related events. The organization has been pioneering a national movement since 1999 to raise awareness of such incidents as well as lobbying through Congress for government policy changes. These regulations include a power window safety standard, driver reminder system and rearward visibility standard. President and founder, Janette Fennell, has received numerous national awards for her efforts and is a well sought out expert in the non-traffic field in the major media. "Music For Mika and the Terry family has been very helpful in raising awareness about the dangers children face in and around motor vehicles. They have worked hard to meet with legislators and have also provided financial support to help move forward our agenda." In addition to KIDS AND CARS, a portion of the proceeds will also go to a scholarship fund in Mika's name to help a Maypearl high school senior go to college.  For more information visit http://www.kidsandcrs.org/.

"We were glad to be a part of the Music For Mika festival this year. It always feels good to be able to play music and raise money for others. I know when my daughter had her tumor operation, the music community stood behind me and helped pay off all of her doctor bills. Music For Mika was another example of musicians coming together to a do a little good in the world. That's never a bad thing."                          - Mike McClure/Mike McClure Band

"Being involved with Music For Mika has been an inspiration for 1100 Springs. To see so many artists and fans come together in support of such an important cause is the greatest affirmation of the family atmosphere in Texas Music."

                                                  - Matt Hilliyar, 1100 Springs

The Bart Crow Band welcomes utility player David Fralin and manager Scott Welch to the nest!  Fralin hails from Lubbock, Texas where he has been playing in bands since the age of 13.  His goal: To do whatever the song needs including contributions ..boards, organ, percussion, violin, and background vocals.  Fralin is thrilled to be a part of the Bart Crow Band experience. "These guys are awesome, beautiful gents.  We are going to have a lot of  fun…ladies beware!" http://www.bartcrowband.com/

Scott Welch is the president of Scott Welch Management, Inc. based in Nashville.  He has managed the careers and development of multi-platinum recording artists Alanis Morissette, LeAnn Rimes, Steve Perry, Paula Abdul, Collective Soul, C&C Music Factory, and others that have sold a combined total of over 100 million albums worldwide.  Under Scott's direction, Alanis Morrisette's debut album Jagged Little Pill was the largest selling debut album in history, with worldwide sales in excess of 34 million records and the winner of seven GRAMMY awards plus numerous critic and sales awards globally. Scott also helped launch MP3.com, Stubhub and is a partner in Highnote, an online radio and video company. He currently manages country/GAC star Mark Wills, Johnny Cooper, The Bart Crow Band, Allison Kaplan and is the executive producer of the Conway Twitty musical. "It is rare that a manager gets to represent an artist who is both a great singer and a gifted songwriter.  Bart has the ability to write a melody and wrap it in a lyric that everyone can relate to.  Everyone at our company is excited to represent him and we recognize how bright his future is."

Steel Guitar News
Category: Music

Hello fellow players,

One thing Id like to mention that has to do with Mondays steel guitar tips is when using two amps together, just use a ground lift on one of the amps, not on both.

Now on to more amplifier topics here. We will soon be doing a very serious test with such players as Tommy White to determine quality and overall great usefulness of the new Webb amplifier. We will also be doing a test on the new Standell 50 watt amplifier.

These should be interesting as many of you have wondered about these high end, exotic steel guitar amplifiers.

Im remembering my first and only meeting with Ricky Nelson, son of Ozzy and Harriet Nelson and purveyor of many hit songs that were played by pop, rock n roll and country stations the world over.

I was called by a promoter to put a great kickbutt band together to open the show for Ricky, Jerry Lee Lewis and Hank Jr. in Chattanooga, Tennessee. I hired some of Nashvilles finest players and proceeded to the auditorium in Chattanooga. Part of the deal was food between shows, myself and my band would have our own dressing room and of course a certain amount of money.

When I got there, one of the star bands had filled up our dressing room with their merchandising swag for them to sell after the show. I asked the band in question to remove the stuff from our dressing room and put it in their own dressing room because they had two dressing rooms and we only had one.

The wise guy in charge of the merchandise said, You cant come in here. Weve commandeered this dressing room.

Having promised my band the dressing room that was promised to me, I immediately took the door off the hinges, went inside the dressing room and very undiplomatically, started removing their precious albums, tee-shirts, star pictures and associated merchandise.

Naturally, my life was threatened about this time, which I found very humorous and was waving our contract around proving that it was our dressing room for everybody to see. I seem to get in more trouble in the dressing rooms than anywhere else during a gig.

Hank Williams Jr, was standing against the wall when I took the door off the hinges. Ive never seen him laugh so much. About this time, a familiar face walked in and put his hand out and said, Hi. Im Tom Brumley. Im playing steel guitar for Ricky.

Suddenly, he recognized me, busted out laughing and started singing that great old George Jones song, Walk Through This Door With Me. We ended up with our dressing room, but the best thing about this episode was Tom Brumley insisting on me meeting the gentleman that owned the merchandise, Ricky Nelson.

Upon meeting Ricky, I must say, I have never met a more polite, congenial, considerate human being in my life. We must have talked for an hour about music, airplanes and the music business in general, but mostly about steel guitar that he was very interested in.

Proof that he was interested in steel guitar was the fact that he used such a great steel guitar player on the road himself, the very famous and deservingly so, Tom Brumley. If there would have been a personality jam session between Ricky and Tom, I dont know who would have won. However, I do promise you, it wouldnt have been Rickys merchandiser who filled up our dressing room.

We all walked away laughing and shaking hands and me with some great memories of my only meeting with Ricky Nelson.

My 24 hour streaming of all steel guitar instrumentals from my webpage seems to be appreciated by many thousands of you. I am getting hundreds of comments weekly on them and wish to say thank you to all for your nice comments.

We have steel guitar instrumentals whenever you want them, 24 hours a day at:

If you havent bought my Christmas album in the last two Christmas seasons, I feel this could be a wonderful time to add it to your steel guitar instrumental collection and by the way, as Im typing this, we just received 500 of the good Canadian volume control pots for your volume pedal. Interview with Janet Martin
Category: Music

Interview with Janet Martin

Ch.L.: Country Music has many new fans in Europe, who may be hearing about you for the first time. How would you describe yourself and the music you play to someone who'se never seen or heard you before.

J.M.: I am a goofball! I love to make people smile and feel like they belong. I know that sounds so innocent and all that, but that's who I am and what my music is all about. I pretty much have something for whatever mood you are in! Kick back and be happy, in love, lost, out of love, glad to be gone....fans say I connect with them very well.

Ch.L.: How was the last year for you? What were the highlights?

J.M.: This last year has been a lot of hard work and a lot of fun! I have written lots of new songs that I will be recording in the next few months, I opened for Darius Rucker, and fufilled my goal of being a part of the CMA Music Festival. I was sponsored by Mr. Coffee and Tetley. I got to meet tons of people from around the world and made a lot of new fans! Also, signed on with Global Music Group and the way they have grown this past year is just amazing! The blessings will continue to be seen in 2009!

Ch.L.: How did you choose the title for the CD, is there a story behind it?

J.M.: The new album will be out in 2009, and consists of songs from the first two releases I did before signing to Global Music Group. We are going to take the best from the two albums tweak them a bit and add in new songs. The title of the album will be Don't Look Back. I chose that, because of all the experiences I have gone through and the lessons learned, moving foward and knowing great things are coming my way is how I need to live my life, not wondering what if and living in the past.

Ch.L.: Do you write the songs yourself and if not, how do you go about finding the songs for the your CD?

J.M.: I write all my own songs. I have been listening to literally hundreds of submissions from other songwriters and there have been some decent stuff, but nothing that has been what I consider the song. I have a good friend in Nashville named Robby Wilson who writes with writers such as the Warren Brothers, that sent me a song that I absolutely love and plan on recutting and putting on this album along with the others I have written.

Ch.L.: Please tell us about the songs on your album.

J.M.: They are about life. They are about dealing with everything from break ups, to death, to just being happy, being in love, having fun with friends and family. Finding out who you are.

Ch.L.: What's the difference between your last CD and the current one?

J.M.: All my songs are different in storyline and in the melody, so I think what we are doing with this new album is going to just blow the other two out of the water. The people I have working with me in the studio now are supurb and will definately give me the sound I am looking for in each of my songs.

Ch.L.: What will your next single be?

J.M.: Merry Go Round will be the first single to release to radio and television in Jan. 2009

Ch.L.: How much creative control do you have over your music?

J.M.: I actually will have more creative control over my music working with GMG than I did in the past. When I was on my own, engineers had me believing that we saw eye to eye on a project, and when I would get the finished product it was all wrong and things were added or kept out without my consent. Then they tried to take me for more money to remove something that wasn't authorized in the first place! That's a little advice for future musicians, don't let people take you for a ride!!

Ch.L.: Do you have any interesting stories about how fans have been affected by your music?

J.M.: I would have people running through the crowd after a performance and ask me how did I know thier life? How did I write that song about them and we had never met. I had people come up to me with tears in their eyes telling me thank you for writing certain songs. That to me was a sign from the Lord that this is my calling, that this is what I was sent to do. I also have had a lot of country music haters listen to my music and end up enjoying country music for the first time!! I love that!!!

Ch.L.: Who do you look up musiccally and how deep do your musical roots run?

J.M.: I look up to Martina McBride, Sara Evans, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey. The women with big voices, that when they sing you feel every note, every word, every emotion.

Ch.L.: As an artist you have to do so many different things such as recording, touring, doing interviews etc. What do you like best, what's your favorite activity?

J.M.: I enjoy it all really. Either way, I get to touch people's lives, many have touched mine. I love meeting people, and I am a chatter box! I think I've J.M.ed more than 10 questions already that you required!!LOL I love relating to people, making them smile, letting them know they aren't alone, and I get to do all of this through everything you mentioned above!

Ch.L.: Are you doing anything to take country music beyond it's courrent borders or are you happy where it is?

J.M.: I do my own thing when it comes to making music. If I feel like adding a John Cash groove to my song or want a more R&B feel to another, I'm going to do it. Every genre of music is always reinventing itself, country music included!

Ch.L.: Many European fans travel to Nashville for CMA Music Festival (Fan Fair), because of the opportunity to see so many of their favorite stars at the same time. Will you be participating and how will the fans be able to find you?

J.M.: I will be there again in 2009! Check out my official site www.janetmartincountry.com and myspace at www.myspace.com/janetmartincountry I will keep everyone up-to-date on everything!
