9:59 AM - moronic ventings

1. I respect the fact that I do not understand the situation you're in, but I still think you're about to make a very bad desicion and I don't think there's anything I can do about it. And yes, I will say this to your face.

2. You're so naive and you don't know what life is about.

3. If you want to know why everyone has been treating you the way they have as of late, look in the mirror.

4. I think it's funny, the situations we find ourselves in.

5. I wish you would leave.

6. You're on your last leg.

1:10 AM - why do people think christianity > scientology?

In this culture, it is okay to believe that a man was born from a virgin and came back to life after he died, but it's not okay to believe that one is descended from extraterrestrials. So in your opinion, what is it that makes one more reasonable than the other? I say nothing. All religions are equal.. equally stupid. They're all just made up stories to make people feel better, whether they're lonely, insecure, or they can't face their own mortality, or experience any other worthless human internal crisis that gets pushed away.

11:42 PM - uninteresting thoughts about my future

I really think that when I'm older I want to be a manager of a business. Like a hotel or restaurant or something. I get a sick satisfaction from bossing people around.

If I were to do that, I would probably have to major in business, which I'm not sure I could do because of the math that is involved. Not to mention the fact that I probably can't even get into a university because I can't pass trig. Well, if I made it so my life revolved around it, I could probably pass, but.. well, I don't care enough. anyway, I'm switching out at the end of the semester.

2:00 AM - 1958 vs 2008: a criticism

Every now and again I like to take apart chain mail/bulletins. This is a very recent one that I've seen posted more than once by people who are apparently under the impression that these are good arguments for the thesis (I assume) that things were better 50 years ago than they are now. Here it is:

1958 vs.2008

Scenario:
Jack goes quail hunting before school, pulls into school parking lot with shotgun in gun rack.

1958
- Vice Principal comes over, looks at Jack's shotgun, goes to his car and gets his shotgun to show Jack.

2008
- School goes into lock down, FBI called, Jack hauled off to
jail and never sees his truck or gun again. Counselors called in for traumatized students and teachers.

I had to reread this a few times to understand it because it was just such a dumb argument. Even on the off chance that a kid decided to get up at 3 am to go quail hunting before school, I'm pretty sure no one would be "traumatized", since before long people would understand that he was not intending to do harm with his gun that was sitting in the back of his car.

Scenario:
Johnny and Mark get into a fistfight after school.

1958
- Crowd gathers. Mark wins. Johnny and Mark shake hands and end up buddies.

2008 - Police called, SWAT team arrives, arrests Johnny and Mark. Charge them with assault, both expelled even though Johnny started it.

This I wholeheartedly agree with, except for the fact that I don't think a SWAT team would bother wasting their time on a fist fight between two adolescents.

Scenario:
Billy breaks a window in his neighbor's car and his Dad gives him a whipping with his belt.

1958 - Billy is more careful next time, grows up normal, goes to college, and becomes a successful businessman.

2008 - Billy's dad is arrested for child abuse. Billy removed to foster care and joins a gang. State psychologist tells Billy's sister that she remembers being abused herself and their dad goes to prison. Billy's mom has affair with psychologist.

It is legal to some extent to spank a kid as a form of punishment. Fuck, if I had a boy and he broke into someone else's car and I had to pay for it I'd probably slap him around too. However, I wouldn't be doing that because I think it would make him a successful businessman. Now to the 2008 scenario: 1) Not all foster kids join gangs; 2) "State psychologist tells Billy's sister..." sentence doesn't even make sense; 3) mom has affair with psychologist?.. WTF?!...

Scenario :
Mark gets a headache and takes some aspirin to school.

1958 - Mark shares aspirin with Principal out on the smoking dock.

2008 - Police called, Mark expelled from school for drug violations. Car searched for drugs and weapons.

This is another situation that I agree is legitimate. I myself take a bottle with many different medicatons including asprin and midol with me almost everywhere I go.

Scenario
Pedro fails high school English.

1958 - Pedro goes to summer school, passes English, goes to college.

2008 - Pedro's cause is taken up by state. Newspaper articles appear nationally explaining that teaching English as a requirement for graduation is racist. ACLU files class action lawsuit against state school system and Pedro's English teacher. English banned from core curriculum. Pedro given diploma anyway but ends up mowing lawns for a living because he cannot speak English.

This is my favorite, by far. I've had friends who have failed classes before, and I'm pretty sure they weren't on the national news, pretty sure the ACLU didn't give a shit, and I'm pretty sure english wasn't banned from the state curriculum. I think they went to summer school and got their credit just like the 58 scenario. Pretty sure.

Scenario:
Johnny takes apart leftover firecrackers from 4th of July, puts them in a model airplane paint bottle, blows up a red ant bed.

1958 - Ants die.

2008- BATF, Homeland Security, FBI called. Johnny charged with domestic terrorism, FBI investigates parents, siblings removed from home, computers confiscated, Johnny's Dad goes on a terror watch list and is never allowed to fly again.

Come on people, if that happened every time some stupid kid thought he was a pyromaniac and blew some shit up, we wouldn't have any available authorities to take care of the real problems.

Scenario:
Johnny falls while running during recess and scrapes his knee. He is found crying by his teacher, Mary. Mary hugs him to comfort him.

1958 - In a short time, Johnny feels better and goes on playing.

2008 - Mary is accused of being a sexual predator and loses her job. She faces 3 years in State Prison. Johnny undergoes 5 years of therapy.

Go spend a day in an elementary school and count how many times you see a boy hug a female teacher. Now count how many times those teachers get accused of being sexual predators.

Don't you just love how times have progressed throughout the years

Let me tell you some facts about 1958. In this year:

-The Cold War was ongoing;
-The Ku Klux Klan was more active than it is today;
-Female genital mutilation was only just beginning to be unacceptable in the west;
-There was an economic recession known as the Recession of 1958;
-Black and white kids went to different schools.

Honestly, the person who wrote this bulletin is probably just some stupid kid who doesn't have his facts straight and wants to make a statement against authority. Really, that's a perfectly legitimate stance to take, but if you're going to be opinionated, do some fucking research and use your brain.

2:31 AM - rant number 61

I know I already mentioned this in my previous blog that I posted this morning but it's bothering me so I'll talk some more.

I can't believe people are actually making a fuss over Sarah Palin's $150,000 wardrobe. could you be more petty? There have actually been some leftists who I respect and think of as intellegent (like Keith Olbermann) who talked about this and therefore are actually under the impression that this is a good reason why she should not be vice president.

DEMOCRATS!! You have been blessed to have arguably one of the most idiotic people that has ever been on a leading presidential ticket there on your opponent's side.. one week left until the election, and you're talking about her clothes? Are you serious? What doofus thinks this is a legitimate argument against her? What doofus is going to say, "well, I was going to vote for McCain/Palin, but she spent $150k on her clothes so I'm not supporting them anymore." she's absolutely ridiculous, and yet you're using something as petty as her wardrobe against her?

Besides, go to Goodwill and ask them if Obama bought his suit there. They will tell you no.

7:40 AM - An unorganized and uninformed summary of my opinions on the upcoming elections

First off, most people greatly overestimate the importance of the president. The United States presidency is an important and powerful role, but most people are somehow under the impression that the president is actually a dictator who can change shit with the blink of an eye, and who has a lot of power over things like the economy. This is false.

That being said, here are my opinions on this upcoming election.

Both Barack Obama and John McCain are aholes.

They try to separate themselves from each other but really they're not that different. For example, John McCain wants to continue the war in Iraq, whereas Obama just wants to pick everything up and move it to Afghanistan (this, by the way, is an issue that the president actually has power over, so it's relevant.) To someone who is anti-war like me, this pretty much makes them like two sides of the same card.

Honestly, they're both just ridiculous. Republicans make ridiculous claims that Obama is a terrorist. Democrats go on for days about Sarah Palin's clothes. Are we really to that point where we have nothing better to say?

I'm pretty cynical about the whole thing.

The fact is, it's not the individual candidates that are the problem, it's the two main parties that are in power. The Democrats have fucked things up because they have repeatedly made plans to 'fix' the problems, but they always end up screwing up or chickening out. The Republicans have fucked things up because.. well, do I really have to go into that?

My point is, if you are still somehow undecided about this election, I would recommend that you vote for a third party candidate. If you are a liberal, research Ralph Nader or Cynthia McKinney. If you are a conservative, research Chuck Baldwin or Bob Barr.

I have said multiple times for the past two months or so that if I could vote, I probably wouldn't. There is no one available who I would really want to be president. If I really had to pick someone, I'd say Bob Barr of the Libertarian party, but I really wouldn't want him to win. He kind of freaks me out.

Anyway, if you're under the impression that your presidential vote really counts, you're wrong. Your vote counts very much for more local elections, and, to speak truth, local politics probably effects you more than national politics.

2:18 AM - You are that self concious girl.

you are mousy and weak emotionally and physically. you walk like something is going to jump out at you at any second. even though you think you're so ugly, you post a million pictures of yourself on myspace and ask for everyone's opinion on them. you have a boyfriend who is over six or seven years older than you but you never ask yourself why he can't get a girl his own age. you're on a diet even though you don't need to be. you have no real interests or hobbies. you manage to constantly get your ass screwed over by other people because you make the same stupid mistakes without learning anything from them.

yep. that's you.

4:27 AM - can I ask

..why people are infaturated with Sigmund Freud?

I mean, he was great for his time and he had some interesting ideas, but most of them ended up being bullshit.

Freud is to psychology as Ptolemy is to geography.

Things wouldn't be the same without them, but we're so far ahead of them now, they're really not worth studying.

5:41 AM - rant number 60

I've encountered a problem in my classes lately with respect to essays. I've always been pretty good at getting my point across using a relatively short amount of words. and all my life that's been a good thing. that's a good thing, right? It's easy communication. isn't that what we're supposed to learn? Anwyway, I'm having trouble because in my classes I have to write papers that are, for example, a minitmum of two pages. I honestly don't think I've ever written a two-page essay in my life. It's fucking impossible! I say what I want to say and I'm done. If I have to continue talking I just ramble and it sounds bad.
