Oscar Chat 6 Announced!
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities
2007 is still fresh, and that means the biggest event of the Cinema Blend year is fast approaching. Mark your calendars and get ready for this year's Oscar Chat. It's hard to believe it, but this is the sixth annual Oscar Chat, which makes it Oscar Chat 6. Normally we're doing good to stick with anything more than a month. How did this make it six years?
I'm going to blame all of you. Every year our Oscar Chat keeps growing as more people keep showing up. This year it's only going to get better. It's the coolest thing we do all year, and even if you ignore us for the rest of 2007, this is the one thing in Cinema Blend that you don't want to miss.
So what the heck is it? Simple. Cinema Blend readers and staff gather around in the all new, revamped and re-glossed Cinema Blend chatroom and watch the Oscars together. While doing so, we chat about what's going on, what we're eating, and then vie for a place in the Cinema Blend hot tub. Ok, there's not really a hot tub (or is there?)
When is it happening? Sunday February 25, 2007 7:30 pm EST till whenever the Oscar broadcast finally ends. The 79th Annual Academy Awards ceremony starts at 8, but we start a half hour earlier so we can make fun of Joan Rivers and her camel-like daughter.
How do I get to Oscar Chat? Turn on your computer at the right time and click right on in to the CB Chatroom by clicking over to here or on one of the big Oscar Chat buttons that will appear all over the site on the Chat day. Feel free too bookmark it for maximum effect.
Still have questions about how to access our chatroom? Try our Beginners Guide to Oscar Chat.
Hanging out with us isn't enough? Want another reason to come? Hey, we've got shwag! We'll be giving away mega cool prize packs to chatters throughout the Oscar broadcast. Keep watching the CB news section for a full list of all the great crap we're giving away during Oscar Chat 6.
Ok, you're set. See you there February 25th at 7:30pm Eastern Standard Time or whatever that translated into for your particular time zone for Oscar Chat 6. Plan now to watch the 79th Annual Academy Awards with us, and tell your friends.
Help spread the word using these Oscar Chat 6 banners!

CB Plays Games
Is there anything we can't do nearly as well as everyone else? If there is, we yet to find it. Our promised movement into things we're not experts on but like talking about anyway marches onward with Cinema Blend's latest expansion into games. If you don't like it, meet me for a game of rockets in Halo 2. Sniper rifle are for pussies. Yep, that's right we're opening CB Games, our snazzy new gaming section. Grab your Xbox 360 and browse our freshly minted section. You'll find no cheat guides here (because frankly we need them as much as you do). Just great gaming stuff from casual gaming fans. You know, gamers who manage to hold down day jobs. So click on over and check out CB Games by clicking right here .

Audiences Behaving Badly
Current mood: annoyed
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities
Who watches the watchers? Obviously no one judging from the behavior of modern moviegoers. To be fair it's only a handful of gibbons really screwing things up, but when you're stuck in a room with a hundred people for two hours it only takes one rotten apple to draw ants. Or is it a bad picnic spoils the whole bunch? One of those.
My enthusiasm level was running at a serious high when I settled in for my second viewing of Superman Returns and my first chance at seeing the film in glorious, 3-D IMAX. It's a fantastic film, maybe even the year's best, and seeing it in the context of big picture, big sound is always a treat. Better still, even though the theater was mostly full, as the lights dimmed I realized that I'd somehow managed to establish a ten seat buffer zone between myself and the next seated patron. Time to stretch out, sip on my blue raspberry slushie, and enjoy.
Not so fast.
Just as the opening credits began to do their mega-cool wooshing thing, Godzilla walked in. He had disguised himself as a middle aged fat woman, but the tromping sound he made as he dragged himself and his fistful of snack items down my aisle left his disguise paper-thin. With a mighty roar the thing that seemed to be woman flopped into the seat right next to me, ignoring the ten empty seats she had to eschew in order to find the one spot in the theater there was no reason for her to sit. God, I hope Godzilla doesn't have a cell phone.
As it turns out, she didn't. Instead, she had nachos. And Twizzlers. And something long and smooshy that may have been a hot dog. It was kind of hard to tell in the dark. She'd just bitten into whatever it was when the "put 3-D glasses on now" signal flashed up on the screen for the first time. Eager to see Superman's goat in three, count em, three dimensions I slipped mine on. So did my new seat buddy, though on the way she may have stopped to dip her pair of other worldly viewers in nacho cheese Whereever her glasses might have stopped on the way to her face, the fact that she had to put them on in order to watch the 3-D IMAX movie (glasses implied lady) made her miserably unhappy. "I can't wait to get these damn things off. Get it over with!" she droned in a voice that barely hinted at the nuclear fires burning inevitably beneath her breasts (assuming she had breasts somewhere beneath the roles of fat that comprised her chest).
So we settled in for an evening at the movies, Godzilla and I. She beside me munching away and taking up her seat, most of the aisle, and parts of mine. I began to regret buying that blue slushie, as it became apparent that the only way to make it to the bathroom would be to somehow signal an absent usher for a forklift. If I'd at least had the sense to buy a big cola instead of the less convenient slushie, I might have had a big enough carton to contain the contents of my bladder. I didn't, and somehow I didn't think she'd be willing to stand up and let me by. Even if she did, I'm not sure if that would have made our increasingly difficult space situation any better. In fact, it might have made it worse. How'd she get down the aisle in the first place anyway? I never was much good at geometry.
My knees locked in place to contain my pee, the end of the movie approached. Superman was throwing something into space
That was when she started exfoliating.
Godzilla locked her claws in scratching position, and like a snake shedding its skin, began vigorously removing the dander from the top of her head. As Superman fought in his hospital bed for recovery, I choked on dead flaky cells floating in the air from her body. Her scalp now remedied, she moved on to her neck, and then eventually to her back. Scratching and digging and delighting. "Put 3-D glasses on!" the screen begged again, but the movie had long ago lost her interest. Anybody got a loofa?
The credits rolled and with a sigh Godzilla heaved her thighs to the side achieving something resembling a standing position. "I don't like that Kate Bosworth!" she commented loudly, either to some friend hidden behind her mass or an imaginary entity that lived in her ear. "She's too skinny!" she explained, as she stumbled over a used nacho carton on her way to a hasty exit from a now ended evening of scratching, and eating, and excessive space consumption.
Who watches the watchers? We all do. We have no choice. They're sitting right next to us.

Oscar Chat 5 Complete
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities
The Oscars are over, and in a massive shocker, Crash won. Roger Ebert saw it coming, but I'm not sure anyone else did, though no doubt dozens of critics are now claiming they did.
Well I didn't.
Oscar Chat 5 went off without a hitch. Thanks again to Matt Norris, Masterthes, and Smizzle who helped us pull it off. It was our biggest ever, and hundreds of people showed up throughtout the night.
Great time. Thanks to everyone!
