Cineplexx Go On A Picnic by Paul POP!, First Coast News
Cineplexx is a strange worldwide phenomenon. Born in Argentina, lured by the sounds of British indie pop, and residing in Barcelona, Spain all have had an influence on the songs that Sebastian Litmanovich writes. With help from friends Douglas Stewart (BMX Bandits), Norman Blake (Teenage Fanclub), and Jad Fair, Cineplexx started to put together what would become, Picnic.
Sounding like the perfect twee pop album in a foreign language, Cineplexx jangles their way along light hearted airy tunes that are an absolute joy to listen too. Like the sound of wind whistling through trees on a clear and crisp autumn day, the songs are bright and invigorating. Complete with chamber pop orchestrations, string sections that would make Belle and Sebastian jealous and a certain degree of lushness that would make AM Radio glisten once again.
Picnic is pretty much the definition of what a perfect indie pop album sounds like. Sebastian and his troupe of jangly jokers have done a fantastic job of creating sugary sweet confections in the shapes of songs that will tug at your heart as much as your brain and that's without speaking hardly a word or English. While Sarah Records, Elephant Records and the like are obviously all influences on what helped Cineplexx write Picnic, Sebastian shapes those influences into a sound that is truly his own take on what the perfect pop album should sound like.
Picnic might be in a different language, but that barrier doesn't prevent this record from being a brilliantly bright and cheery record. Whether it's pure jangly goodness, instrumental meanderings, or synth fed pop songs, Cineplexx's Picnic is a beautfiully crafted, delicate, and charming pop record that crosses barriers and cultures with ease.

I will copy some information about Mark Eric from Cherry Red website:
---
In Hollywood in the 1960's....you could reinvent yourself as anything ..... Mark Eric Malmborg, Hollywood actor, male model and music fan, who made a number of appearances on the Partridge Family and countless TV and magazine ads.....for whom it was forever 1965 and a midsummer's day on the beach.....against all the expectations of his musician friends, in 1968 wrote a suite of exquisite soft psych pop songs, originally intending to find someone to cover them, as his friend ex-Animal Vic Briggs had with his instrumental "Night Of The Lions"...instead he entered the then brand-new Sound City Studios, stomping ground of The Millennium and Gary Usher among others, and made this beautiful album, catching the tail end of LA's pop innocence perfectly, just as it was gone forever.....soon afterwards, he took on a new career as entertainment director on cruise liners, and dropped from sight, as some speculated on another mystery 1960's casualty....last year he reappeared fit and healthy in LA, and was persuaded by a new generation of musicians to perform "A Midsummer Day's Dream" live at various locations.....to widespread acclaim.....here, for the first time, his complete 1968/69 recordings are made available once more.…

More reviews on Picnic (2nd part)
Current mood: curious

You may not have heard of Argentinean-born Cineplexx (a.k.a. Sebastian Litmanovich), but that doesn't mean that he hasn't spent the majority of his 34 years making music. His ninth full-length, Picnic, features simple pop music with little inner complexities (think: The Beach Boys meets Belle and Sebastian). Tracks like "Droga Paliativa" infuse with '80s style synths and electronic-driven pop, while the title track (which features Half Japanese's Jad Fair) masterfully layers a folky organ with twitchy guitar and chimes. Like dreamy landscapes sung in Spanish, Litmanovich's melodies evoke all kinds of emotions. / XL8R8

Finally, a pop album that isn't sickly saccharine comes our way. Sebastian Litmanovich and friends (including Federico Aubele) put together a delicious album of whimsical '60's dream pop and psych that could pass as an homage to Belle and Sebastian. Equally as sunshiny pleasant and chair-dance inducing ("Droga Paliativa") as the Scottish band's discography, the aptly named disc is so light and springy, it is – dare I say – a picnic in the park – Yahaira 4/5 stars – "certified awesome" / Batanga magazine (US)

Latest Reviews about Picnic !!!
Current mood: thankful
Category: Music
Barcelona based artist is Cineplexx (Sebastian Litmanovich) was born in Buenos Aires. Picnic is a fitting title for his airy bedroom psych. The emphasis is on the soft, pillowed layers of sounds: guitar, hazy keys, strings, etc. Multi-tracked, mostly Spanish vocals have ample do dos and oh ohs which glisten throughout – perfect for those fields of grass and daydreaming. Assistance from friends Duglas Stewart (BMX Bandits), Norman Blake (Teenage Fanclub), Federico Aubele (ESL Records) and Jad Fair (Half Japanese). Recommended. / wdcefm.org

I find Cineplexx a musical experience that both intrigues and at the same time I can't help but wonder why it has the facination for me. I guess you will have to listen to it and make up your own mind. Begin with the video of the single from "Picnic" called "HOJAS".

"Belle & Sebastian" by Cineplexx is a very infectious piece of ear candy from Picnic. culturecatch.com

That Argentinean born and current Barcelona resident Sebastian Litmanovich is joined on Picnic by Norman Blake of Teenage Fanclub, Jad Fair of Half Japanese and Duglas Stewart of BMX Bandits, is really all you need to know about Cineplexx. But if you're still inquisitive, Picnic sees Litmanovich guiding the C86-inspired lo-fi through rippling landscapes that take in the Vaselines, Magnetic Fields, Gruf Rhys and Camera Obscura along the way. Litmanovich's lush, subtle, Spanish lends Cineplexx an absorbing warmth, while light, ethereal bounce and '60s psychedelic conjures up an absorbing setting where the Velvet Underground and Gorky's Zygotic Mynchi hang with Belle & Sebastian and Gilberto Gil. / popmatters.com

Their Wall of Sound sensibilities and Beach Boy-influenced songs lend themselves nicely to both their English and Spanish lyrics. Here's "A mi lado" ("By My Side") as today's top tune. / kcrw.com

The sound is lush and full similar to Belle and Sebastian (even a song near the albums end is named after them) with wall-of-sound arrangements and full Spanish language vocals. Fans of Belle and Sebastian and Velvet Underground minimalism, will enjoy / powerpopaholic.blogspot.com
