New story in Storyglossia
Current mood: excited
Category: Writing and Poetry
Thanks to Steven J. McDermott of the renowned Storyglossia for digging "The Man with the House in the Sky," which found a home in issue 31.
When I wrote this story, I was playing a lot of Tekken Tag Tournament and Tekken 4, so Tekken fans will obviously recognize the names of the two main characters. I wanted to use short, strong names that weren't too unusual, and Jin and Paul both fit the bill.

November 2008 issue of decomP
Current mood: creative
Category: Writing and Poetry
decomP: a literary magazine www.decompmagazine.com From the Editor-in-Chief By Jason Jordan Yo. Welcome back to decomP for the November 2008 issue. We know in our heart of hearts that October treated you well. And by "October," do we mean the month itself, the issue, or both? Either way, this month we're pleased to offer new work from Lester Allen, Rusty Barnes, Luis Cuauhtemoc Berriozabal, Murray Brozinsky, William Lusk Coppage, Matthew D'Abate, Aleathia Drehmer, Theresa Edwards, Renee Emerson, Tom Fillion, Christine Hamm, Jason Hardung, Antony Hitchin, Tai Dong Huai, Justin Hyde, Mitch James, Nathan Leslie, Oliver Rice, Sean Ruane, Carly Swanberg, Robert Swartwood, and Randy Thurman. Before we leave you to peruse the issue, we must voice our condolences about the recent demise of Zygote in My Coffee, a consistently good online/print publication. We'll miss you, Zygote. decomP looks best in any browser except Internet Explorer, but it's designed for Firefox.

Sponsor Me in the Dzanc Books Write-a-Thon
Current mood: anxious
Category: Writing and Poetry
I'm participating in the Dzanc Books Write-a-Thon to help raise money for them. They're a non-profit, and if you sponsor me, your donation will be tax deductible. You can pay via PayPal or check. This is my donation page. You can sponsor me in one of three ways:
1. Per word. If you were to pledge $0.01 per word, and I write 2,000 words, that'd be $20.
2. Per page. If you were to pledge $1 per page, and I write 10 pages, that'd be $10.
3. Flat Rate. However much you want to pledge no matter how much or how little I write. Say, $10 total.
Here's what they say about sending in your donation:
"If you are planning to pledge based on the number of words or pages the participant writes, please send an email stating such to dan@dzancbooks.org and cc it to stevens@dzancbooks.org.
"If you are planning on paying by check, please send an email stating such to dan@dzancbooks.org and cc it to stevens@dzancbooks.org. In the email please include a) your donation amount, either the flat amount or the rate per word or page, and b) your mailing address. All checks should be made out to Dzanc Books. "Dzanc Books is a 501(c)3 nonprofit. All donors will receive, either via email or snail mail, a tax receipt for their donation."
The actual writing will take place from 7 AM to 7 PM on Saturday, November 15th. Of course I usually don't get up until noon, so the afternoon will be my time to work. I'm hoping to write a rough draft of a new story during this time period. What will happen to this story? I'll be sending it out in hopes of getting it published somewhere, so if you sponsor me, I'll keep you up to date about that. Lastly, if you sponsor me, I'll mention your first name in the story--a character might be named after you, etc. Thanks to anyone who shows interest! If you have any questions, post away.

October 2008 issue of decomP
Current mood: animated
Category: Writing and Poetry
decomP: a literary magazine www.decompmagazine.com From the Editor-in-Chief By Jason Jordan Welcome back to decomP for the October 2008 issue. We're betting that September treated you well. This month we're pleased to offer new work from Peter Anderson, Travis Blair, Mike Faloon, Roland Goity, Howie Good, Barry Graham, Mary Hamilton, Emily Hane, Drew Kalbach, Charles Logan, Tom Mahony, Josh Olsen, Ananda Selah Osel, Peter Schwartz, and T. M. Stringfellow, with a review from yours truly. Also, we've rearranged the header up top so that it's in alphabetical order. We removed the link to our Amazon store (it's in the About section now), but added an Awards page. Let us be the first to congratulate those who we've nominated for notable literary awards. We'll be announcing our 2008 Pushcart Prize nominees in December, so stay tuned for 'em. As always, thanks for reading! decomP looks best in any browser except Internet Explorer, but it's designed for Firefox. decomPrint: 2010

New story in Keyhole Magazine
Current mood: content
Category: Writing and Poetry
I'm honored to be included in Keyhole Magazine 4, which I received today. It looks great, as you'll see below, and though I haven't read it, I'm looking forward to it. My story is called "My Better Half," and I must yet again extend a hand of thanks to Nick Ostdick for critiquing my story to help me make it better.
Contributors include T. J. Forrester, Jon Gingerich, Eugene Gloria, Jessica Hollander, Jason Huskey, Jason Jordan (that's me), Ilan Mochari, Karen Neuberg, Michelle Orange ( The Silicy Papers rocks, by the way), Noel Sloboda, Jeff Wallace, and Kevin Wilson (oddly enough, my former high school principal's name). Buy it here for $10. Also, this is old news, but did you know that "the Internet is not a big truck"? That "it's not something that you just dump something on"? It's "a series of tubes."

By Jason Jordan
Welcome back to decomP for the September 2008 issue. We trust August treated you well. This month we're pleased to unveil our first ever all-poetry issue, which features new poems from James Babbs, M. Blake, April Michelle Bratten, Juliet Cook, Nathan Graziano, Jack Henry, Steven Kunert, Suzanne Nielsen, Puma Perl, Marc Pietrzykowski, Phill Provance, Kurt Remington, Matthew Savoca, Brandi Wells, and Ernest Williamson III, with art from Danny Powell. Don't lament, though, prose fans. We've got an eclectic collection of prose lined up for October. As an aside, please check out a review of Patrick Kelling's "Propping Frisco" on Five Star Literary Stories. We're excited about the inclusion. As always, thanks for reading!

Back from My Internet-Free Vacation upon Which I Discover News of Various Literary Happenings
Current mood: tired
Category: Writing and Poetry
After a 12-hour drive, I got back tonight from Destin, Florida, where I stayed for a week. It was a fun vacation--I swam and went out to eat with my family, mostly--but there wasn't access to the Internet on my end, so I wasn't able to feed my addiction except for a brief 12-minute stint (or, $3.36) in an Internet cafe yesterday. Always pros and cons to both leaving and returning. One con being over 2100 spam emails in my Yahoo! spam folder. Of course I sifted through it all, because, without fail, there's always one worthwhile email in the spam folder (usually a submission reply) that I can't bear the thought of accidentally deleting, even though I wouldn't know if I did. Anyhow, I've a new flash piece, called "Mating," in the latest issue of the super-cool DOGZPLOT. Following the story you'll see my name, a link, and the title/author of the last great thing I read. My selection is the short story "Basketball Is Not a Drug" by Richard Jespers. It first appeared in Blackbird, but I read it in Best of the Web 2008. Below my story, in the comments field, is Ryan Manning striking again. Also, the preordering for Keyhole Magazine Issue 4 is now open! My story "My Better Half" is slated to appear within. You'll see the cover art below, and based on the previous issues alone, I'd say we're in for another excellent installment from Peter Cole and company. $12 should be well worth it.

August 2008 issue of decomP
Current mood: animated
Category: Writing and Poetry
decomP: a literary magazine www.decompmagazine.com From the Editor-in-Chief By Jason Jordan Welcome back to decomP for the August 2008 issue. We hope July treated you well. Is anyone else yearning for winter at this point? Didn't think so. We are, though. This month we're pleased to feature new work from James Babbs, Carla Criscuolo, Kim Frieders, Brady Hammes, David LaBounty, Anthony Liccione, Wayne Mason, Dan Provost, John Sweet, and J.A. Tyler. Also, we review the latest from Bizarro author D. Harlan Wilson, and chat with him about it, too. Finally, please take advantage of our profile on Duotrope's Digest by tracking your submissions, on Facebook by joining our group, and MySpace by adding us as a friend. You'll find the respective links at the bottom of our homepage. Enjoy the issue, and as always, thanks for reading. Oh, and as an aside, the E-i-C will be on vacation during the first half of this month, and though the decomP inbox will remain open to submissions, don't expect any replies until late August at the earliest. "decomP looks better in Firefox, Opera, and Safari," says Bill Gates. "Like, way better. Like, don't-ever-use-Internet-Explorer-again better. Seriously."
If you'd like to be removed from this email list and hurt our feelings simultaneously, reply with Unsubscribe as the subject. You were added because one of the editors knows you, or you submitted, or both. decomPrint: 2010
