Monday, Nov. 10th: 3 Announcements

1. I am proud to announce that Todd Walthall (Galgo Music Group, Inc.) is my new manager. I'm looking forward to working with him as well as the rest of GMG. They are in my top friends also, so feel free to add them.

2. I will be releasing a 6 or 7 song EP in January 2009 that I will have on my tour in Feb/March. I don't know all the songs that will be on this release. I do know that I will for sure be re-recording Dreamers and Get Out for this release. I don't think there will be that many re-recorded songs on the release, besides those two. Another song I know for sure that I will be putting on there is Queen of the World which can be found on youtube. All others will be 100% completely new.

3. Along with the preparation of recording this EP I'll be recording a good amount of new demos of the revised/new versions of old songs and recording new ones as well. Here are some songs I will be recording , some or most will be full band. I plan to release a few of the demos online on purevolume once I decide whats going on the EP

This is Why I Didn’t Vote for Obama or McCain.

Obama
-Supports the Patriot Act(s) (there are two)
-Supports war in Afghanistan and will keep a military base in Iraq, but will eventually cut back on the troops in Iraq and ship them to Afghanistan.

-Mostly all of his plans (mainly Health Care) will call for major government spending. He never during his 1+year in campaigning explained specifically what spending cuts he would make, what programs he would cut to fund these new programs.

-His tax plan for the middle class is somewhat unclear but is semi good. However I don't believe people making $250,000 a year are middle class. I think that people making $90,000 and under are.

McCain
-Supports both Patriot Acts of 2001 and 2006 as Obama did.

-Supports keeping both "Wars" in Iraq and Afghanistan going.

-His tax/economic plan is out of touch. Trickle Down/Regan Economics are long past their age. It doesn't work in todays economy. Big business don't need a lot of money to keep their programs going. The workers need more money because that is who spends the money in the real-world economy. You can't sell products to people that don't have the money to pay for it.

Also for those saying these things about either candidate.

Obama is a socialist.

-No he isn't. If you want to get really technical about the "spread the wealth" comment and call his tax plan socialistic, then what in the world do you call any taxation system the US ever had. Its a socialistic idea from the beginning.

McCain might die soon
We will all die, we don't know when. Why let age matter? I know a guy that is 93 and is in way better health than 60 year olds I know.

Obama is black thats why I am / am not voting for him
Are you really that shallow and narrow minded of a person? Thats completely ignorant to only vote or not vote for a person because of race.

Sarah Palin doesn't have experience
Compare her time spent in politics with PRESIDENTIAL candidate Barack Obama. She's VP and has been involved with Government by hodling office in politics since 1996. Obama has been holding Government office in politics since 1997. So thats for you to judge. Just the facts. Although personally I believe both are qualified.

Obama is a muslim!
Slap yourself in the face. No he isn't.

BUT if he was, who cares? This is AMERICA right?

Thats why I don't support either, I voted for Chuck Baldwin, the only disagreement I truly have with him is ..ion. I don't believe that abortion is a right that the Federal Government should decide on. I believe that the decision should be at the State Government level. I know everyone has their personal reasons for being in favor or against abortion.

Regardless of who you support/voted for, I'm very happy you voted.

All I ask is that you join me in supporting Barack Obama that will be sworn into office in January 2009

I just decided this tonight. I will start booking it soon. If you live in the area that this map shows, you should reply and tell me some venues in your area (be sure you list where you live/where the venues are you are telling me about) Also if theres any local bands in those areas I should try to get on the show. I was planning on doing a strict east coast tour at that time period. But my reason for the change of plans is because my Grandparents are in the 80s so I figured I'd go see them again (and tour on the way and back). Because they aren't getting any younger :)

United Kingdom Tour??

I have had the idea to do this for a good couple of months. I don't have any booking contacts there right now, and I also don't have anything in motion to make this happen/possible at the current moment. But for when the time does come, I'd like your ideas of where you want me to come play, regardless of size of venue. I'd rather go and play for you and hang out with you at your favorite spot to hear music.

So if you live in the UK, let me know where to tour when I do.
Which I will aim for happening in 2009.

Just my advice.

If you are in a relationship, enjoy it. It most likely won't last forever. Even if you are in love with each other. Life is a crazy , surprising , thing that can take you through loops and back to the place you started or somewhere far off. You will most likely love again, but just not love each other.

If you're in High School enjoy that, trust me. You will miss it, even if you hate it. You really do learn who your best friends are after you graduate. Don't be scared to have fun and bend a few rules, I'm glad I did. (I graduated in 2005).

If you're in College, take your future more serious than I am/ever did. Stay in it if you took out huge loans, even if it sucks. Trust me. You don't want to be stuck with a huge loan without anything to show.

If you have something to say to someone, you might as well tell them. Because most of the times whats killing you is what you're keeping inside.

If your parents , grandparents, friends, tell you they love you, don't be scared to tell them back (I still am terrible at this, but I'm working on it)

Get to know your Parents, Grandparents, Aunts , Uncles, anyone you can. One day when more time passes you'll wish you connected more. Trust me on this.

Don't be scared to be open minded and question things regardless of what you believe or believe in or think currently.

Don't be scared to do something that makes you feel alive. But don't forget to be happy and comfortable at times.

If your friends are dancing, you should dance too. The best way to live a leveled life is to humiliate yourself in front of people.

theSUN & theMOON

Hello Sir/Mam/You,

After seeing the movie Nick & Norahs Infinite Playlist I got the idea to do a release like a mixtape. There would be a potential of 12 songs per cd that was ordered, and I would personally burn, and create the cover/art and all for a small price. I decided to hold that idea off for awhile. So I decided what is better than free stuff right? So I had over 40 unreleased home demos and other songs of that sort.

So that is where this release comes into play, called theSUN & theMOON. The concept is very basic. Goes as follow (sort of like a mixtape?)

-theSUN:  Consists of Happy/Lovey/Skipping down the sidewalk/Positve songs. (has 27 songs)

-theMOON: Consists of Sad/Thinking/Deep(er?)/Laying in your bed kind of songs. (has 26 songs)

Theres a little bit of everything involved in some of these recordings, even some beat boxing on a few.

The sad thing is..

With the world today is that most people aren't informed enough to know that technology is so great right now (has been for over 30 years now)
Currently technology has the power (if granted) to make these possiblities , realities.

-No one would ever live in starvation.
-Everyone could have a good home and living condition (a car, nice house, pool, etc..)
-Everyone could have food
-No one would have to literally work to make their lives better
-Schools and hospitals all over the world to go to for free
-Medicine free.
-Crime Rates would drop drastically (Money is the reason for most crimes)
-Everyone could be truely free.

The two things keeping this from happening is money and uniformed people.

Money controls you, debt enslaves you.
If we used the techonolgy to free the people and give everyone, not just the wealthy or people barely making it (money-wise) a free, great life, we could focus on restoring nature, and stop using oil and such.

We have the technology but we don't use it to the fullest because of the market, people needing to make money because of scarcity.

This isn't something that I just thought of off the top of my head, I have conversed about subjects as this with others, then I came across The Venues Project and Zeitgeist-addendum, which made me glad that I wasn't the only one that knew of this.

If money and greed wasn't there, we would be better off. But some like the idea of money because they feel it gives them power. Selfish.

I'd love your thoughts on this.

Also if you want to take some time to open your mind and educate yourself some more, I highly, Highly,  suggest that you check out the documentary (watch it for free streaming online) and the website

Interview with Greene Prarie Press

Greene Prarie Press Interview with Scott Phares of City Like Drive by Carmen Ensinger (will be in the September 17th Issue)

Tell me a little about your band. Who is in it, where are they from,  and when were you formed.
The current members of the band are Clint Kesinger and myself Scott Phares. City Like Drive started out as just myself as a solo artist in September of 2006. I started the solo thing because the full band thing wasn't working, lack of members and drive from others. I was in a band prior to CLD called Abistarline with my friend Dave Pettie, which I am hoping will join CLD on Drums now that I am building it back up to a full band. In August of this year I asked Clint Kesinger, which I had known for a long time to join the band on guitar and we began writing and such.

How would you describe your music - Christian, alternative or what.
Yes we are a Christian rock band at the core of all things, we are an Alternative Rock band. Most people would think by being a Christian Rock band that you are a worship band. We are simply Christians writing songs that deal with multiple subjects, also do have songs that deal with our faith, and the struggles we have had, also the good times.

Do you write all your own music.
Yes we write all of our songs. Lately the way things have been going, Clint will write the guitar parts and I will write the Lyrics / Vocals.

Why are you giving this free concert.
In 2005-2007 I used to put on local concerts, but anymore its hard to find a place that is willing to have concerts for the local youth here in Greene County. I am always looking for someone or some place to do shows and bring in other bands from the area and nearby counties. I hope to find a place to do monthly or bi-weekly shows sometime soon to bring something more to this small town. Most people think you can't have fun in a small town, I have always been one to say that you can, and hope to bring back some fun with this concert. I want the kids here in this area to enjoy things that I feel they would enjoy, which I also enjoy. Instead of driving to St. Louis, Springfield or farther for a concert, go up town. The parent would probably feel safer too and save money on gas.

What do you hope the concert will achieve for the youth of the area.
I hope to get others into playing an instrument. Also to give something for the youth to do around here. If you count all the things for youth to do here in North Greene or Greene County in general, it is very slim. There are local High School and Junior High Sports, occasional, but rare High School events other than sports, also some of the local churches will hold youth events with many options of things to do. A lot of people don't realize the potential of a small town, I am just trying to hopefully expose some of the potential and get others involved.

What year did you graduate NG high school.
I graduated in 2005, Clint is a senior this year. North Greene High School is a great school in my opinion, which everyone has one. My view is you get out of it, what you seek out of it. If you don't try and apply yourself to it, you will get little out of it. Sometimes people have to take responsibility for themselves instead of blaming others, one of the few things in my life I wish I would've done different was pay more attention and try harder in High School.

What makes you different from other rock bands.
I have always been one to keep in contact with our listeners as well as Clint does. Currently we are connected to over 45,000 people over myspace on the internet. Many of those people I have met at our concerts and on tour. Most bands don't stay connected and talk with their fans, we do, have always tried to eliminate the fan word, and make them our friend. If no one comes to shows and buys cds, we aren't going to be a very successful or confident band, the music industry is 50% the artist and 50% the listener. We try to keep a family feel to everyone we bring into our live show and our lives through music. Simply I feel like we care more about talking to and keeping in touch with our listeners/friends than most bands.

Have you cut any cd's - if so what are they called and when did they come out
Prior to Clint joining I have cut two cds as a solo artist called "In Circles" and "Best Wishes", we are currently working on writing and recording demos for a new CD to be out this Fall.

Tell me a little bit about the other bands that will be playing
The other three bands are Britney Johnna- She is a very nice and talented girl from Jerseyville, a solo acoustic artist. Suicide X Airwaves- a band from Jerseyville Illinois that plays rock. Mantis- Is Clints (the other member of CLD) other band that he is in with some other guys out of NGHS, they are a heavier rock band.

Have you gone by any other names and how did you meet the other band members.
Prior to City Like Drive (name change in 2007), I simply went by my full name Scott Joseph Phares. I met Clint forever ago in Roodhouse IL, if I had to guess it was 1996/97 when I first met him, it may have been earlier. He was singing a song from the movie Grease Lightening to me and a few people I was walking around with, it was random but funny.

*There were more questions asked, so feel free to pick up the full interview this Wednesday in the Greene Prarie Press.

About the song "Help Me Up"

As I am sure many of you have had the unfortunate experience of losing someone you love to death, but that will be a part of all of our lives one day, which is something I find to be crazy, to think I won't exsist and still wear these sweet skull pj's and play music and such. But this song I wrote about my Grandma Helen, which she is the single most inspiration in my life and my music, she's the reason I even started or wanted to play and perform. I used to spend a lot of time with her before she passed away, she used to babysit me all the time, which was always fun.

Then when her health got to be bad to where she was unable to live on her own, she then moved to the nursing home. I still saw her a lot, on mondays I would go out there in the evening and visit with her, then we'd watch a TV show called "In The Heat Of The Night", and every saturday at 2pm I'd go out and play bingo with her and all the other residents. Throughout the other days of the week I would go visit her too. Then she passed away, which really was unbelieveable to me, and still sometimes is, its weird to accept. One thing I wish more than anything is she could've seen me play music now, and see the person I have become. But life has its leads and fall downs, and greatness. One thing I learned from her is to not lead the roll of a let down and to look for the better side in everything.

If you feel like sharing your stories and thoughts on things like that in your life, if you've listened to the song and it made you think of someone, feel free to share it in this blog, or if you'd rather others that might be thinking and feeling the same way to see it, feel free to message me, on here I always love to hear from you and know whats on your mind and going on in your life.

Thanks,

Scott
