Summer Rain (new poem)
Current mood: tired
Category: Art and Photography
I shared this poem in my latest podcast. I've been getting back into writing on the regular a little more lately. Hopefully it will last....
SUMMER RAIN
I'm home again from a long day's work And I'm tired
Walking in the door dropping my bag on the floor I let out a sigh I've held in all day
I untie my tounge and breathe free at last And the air is cleaner here
The energy drains from my bones And I sit down to remove my shoes And I don't want to get up So I dream
I remember the summer days of my youth Doing nothing but playing all day Not worrying about the next day's deadlines Or yesterday's mistakes
And I remember laying on my bed With a good book in hand Staring out the window and Watching the beautiful summer rains
I can still smell the sweet scent Wafting through screened window Blowing against my face Flowing into my lungs Strengthing my love for life
I can still taste summer on my tongue As I lick my lips and intake The day like child taking in his mother's milk Like a puppy's first drink after running the fields
So sweet the taste So sweet the taste
A car alarm brings me back to the now And I miss the summer rains I miss its presence in my veins I long to be rinsed from today's stench This pollution that permeates my clothes My skin, my being
And I can't move from here From these memories This deluge of delusion This flood of frustration This longing for peace
So, I am still Still that young kid staring out the window Still that young man sitting alone Still in this time and that place
Longing for summer rain

Constant
"Constant"
Through these last few years Life has remained (random) Not one week similar to the next Not one thought conciously connected
But you remain constant
Like a brilliant vision you walk through the Battlefield that is my life Pure white
Though the earth trembles around you Solidly you stand
I look forward to the comfort of your arms Like a wearied soldier back from battle War-scarred and tired Knowing that the battle rages on Knowing that there are brothers out there Awaiting my return
And you understand that You believe that So, with steady heart and Loving brillance you Let me go
Like a steadfast soldier off to battle I go Yet you remain constant

Tick Tock
Category: Art and Photography
I was reading through some of my older poetry recently and came across a poem I hadn't read in awhile. It's called "Tick Tock".
I read it an open mic shortly after I wrote it. It brought back memories of those intimate settings back in Charleston, SC. I need to get back to that.
"Tick Tock"
Its not every day that you get to hear the clock tick Silence seems so uncommon these days
Drowned out by TV and MP3 and you and me Forsaking the sound of the clock reminding us that time is passing That's another second gone by What are you doing? That's another minute past Where are you going?
It goes both ways I guess The abundance of ticks becomes beautiful music as you sit in the midst of it One connecting to another in uninterrupted rhythm Tick tock Tick tock Tick
I miss the tick tock most when I am amongst the rhythm What was I thinking when I left? How could I forsake this precious time This Holy time For it is between the tock and the tick where I find God Where time slows down and I hear his still, small voice whispering
Can you hear it?
Listen closely You must block out all that is not of Him and Listen closely Tick tock Tick tock
Tick

Jumping on the band wagon!
Category: Blogging
Ok, I finally jumped on the MySpace bandwagon. Well, I've had my personal page for a while. But this is the first Cloudy Day Art page.
Ok, I've had this for awhile, too. But now I have actually updated it.
Now off to find some friends!
