The Internet Powers that Be.
Current mood: working
Category: Web, HTML, Tech
I don't know what the eff happened to the domain name we used to have. It expired or something. And now I have no idea how or where to get it back from.
So, I bought a new one. Google is awesome, so you'll be redirected, but just as an FYI, this is the new address:
http://www.confessionsofmusicaddict.com
Once I get my life back in order, I'll blog more. Pinky swear promise I will.

Updates.
Current mood: accomplished
Category: Blogging
I figured I would take this opportunity to lay down what's going on with the blog at the moment.
We've got lots of ideas (because it's three girls putting their heads together, which always results in awesome things...) that we're trying to put into something tangible.
In March, Claire Ashton joined Ally and I to give the blog a little extra flavor since her taste tends to be somewhat different than ours, and her resources are pretty spectacular, so that's always a plus.
We had a couple of showcases that I was very happy with. One had us teaming up with Eskimo Kiss Records and the ISP over at the EARL, and the other was a nice intimate show over at Smith's in the Atlanta Room. Thanks to anyone who showed up (or participated).
This past month, Filter Magazine's people asked me to cover the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club show for their online tourzine, which was very cool since we got linkage on their blog. National exposure is always a good thing, right?
Hmm, what else? Oh, we are busting our asses and dealing with lots of people to get confessions from bands/artists to open our posts with. If you haven't looked at those, you should. They're quite humorous and give a great insight into the personal lives of touring acts. You can read them here.
Right now, we're working on coming up with a routine to do a "Pick of the Week" so we get one up each Wednesday. I'm even putting my VERY amateur Photoshop skills into making a special picture to give out. It's like kindergarten all over again.
I'm going to take a little field trip to NYC next month to remind myself how much I love NY and wish I could live there. While doing that, I'm also planning on catching a show or two, so hopefully I'll have something cool to share when I get back...if I ever come back...
Everything is looking sky high for us here at CoaMA. We always appreciate input of any kind, so if you have any, by all means...comment away or shoot any of us an email, which you can find if you peruse the bloggity blog.
Holla later-
Leah

Confess to Us.
Current mood: devious
Category: Blogging
We put this up in a blog a couple weeks ago, but since not everyone reads everything, I thought I would put it here, too.
Since we are called "Confessions of a Music Addict," Ally and I are asking band members to confess something to us that no one (or few people) may know about themselves. This is going to be great exposure for everyone involved, because your band will be linked on the blog, and we'll probably say a little something about it, and not only that, you'll want to tell all your friends and fans that you're cool because you got your name mentioned specifically on the blog.
I know how egotistical you rockstars are, so you should totally do this.
You can email your confession to me at addict79@gmail.com, or you can send us a message on here. We'll figure out when and where to put it.
The juicier the better. And the cooler you look.

We Have Podcast Lift-Off.
Current mood: excited
Category: Podcast
Yay! Ally and I have kicked off the whole podcast thing...and I'm super excited about it. I hope you like it too. Check out the blog to hear it. We have 5 songs in between Ally and I bullshitting, so it'll be a great thing that we plan to try to do every week. I'm going to try to enclose it here...I don't know if it'll work. Maybe you should just go to the damn blog and download our little podcast.

Pick of the Week & Mailing List.
Current mood: cold
Category: Music
I'm going to try to implement a "Pick of the Week." If your band is playing, let me know where and when, and I'll decide on who I will highlight on the blog. Like a show highlight to get people interested in coming out.
And hey, the more people you tell about the blog, the better exposure everyone involved gets. That's fun.
Also, I've begun a mailing list. I'll have a sheet out at shows I'm sponsoring or putting on, or you can sign up on the Internets. Just go to this link: here.
I won't spam you. I'm only going to remind you about shows the blog is involved with and if there's special breaking news concerning the big shit going down in the ATL.

Podcasts.
Current mood: accomplished
Category: Podcast
Holy shit, I'm getting my ass in gear and keeping up with the Jones'. Ally and I are going to start a podcast where we play songs from unknown/local bands and highlight whatever show is around the corner on the calendar. Yay. Brilliant, right? Thank my new blogging partner, Ally, for that.
So, of course this is your invitation to submit some nice quality mp3s to me at addict79@gmail.com so that we can incorporate them into the podcast. I'm not sure when the first one will be, but it's coming soon. And it's free exposure for all you band people out there. Pretty soon, you're going to see our faces on billboards and baby bibs, so you might want to get on it now before we surpass your already established coolness.

Showcases.
Current mood: working
Category: Music
The idea I had to throw a massive free-for-all party on my birthday this year seemed like such a good one that I've decided to make it a regular thing. Probably every six weeks or so. I'm going to talk to the guys at the 585 and see if we can't work something out there. The first showcase will be December 29th at the 585 with:
Chris Unck The Beggars' Guild League of Evil Rantings of Eva
Hopefully, enough people will show up and rock out so that I still think it's a super idea to keep it a regular occurence. Mark yo calendar, foo.
The whole point is to get people out to see bands they may not normally see or haven't heard of. I will always use an Atlanta band, but will open it to any band who wants to try and break into the bustling music scene this city has to offer. Of course, I have a formula on how I'll do the line-ups, but please feel free to message me for more info and to let me know if you're interested in playing, or if there's a band you'd be interested in seeing. And I will do my best to make it happen. Yay.
The next one...if the turn out for this one is good...will probably be around the first of February.

In Anticipation of Becoming Ancient.
Current mood: accomplished
Category: Music
I know it's only September. However, I'm putting this out there because in the world of music, people are slow. You want to get a show booked, it sometimes takes a month to get everyone on the same page, make sure the venue is available, etc. So, because of all those things, I'm putting the word out about a show that I, Leah, will be putting together to celebrate...myself. I know, it's completely self-serving, but if I really gave a shit, then I wouldn't do it, eh?
My birthday is December 29th. That's a Friday. I'll be 27. I had this idea long ago to put together a show of my favorite local acts and call it a "Confessions of a Music Addict" showcase. Of course, I never ended up doing it, so I figured the best way to insure a good show on my birthday that'll give me and whoever else wants to celebrate something fun to do, I should put it together myself, as a showcase for the blog that just happens to fall on my birthday.
As of today, I have secured a venue! Yay. It's going to be at The 585. I have also secured one band, League of Evil. Essentially, I would like 2 or 3 others to go along with that on the bill. Preferably bands I've spoken nicely about, which would indicate that I enjoy their music.
If anyone would like to volunteer for one of those remaining spots, please let me know. It would make my life easier than having to deal with your manager or booking person, or whatever. It's a hassle to go through so many people just to book a band. It actually pisses me off because I'm prompt and like to have things done when I think about them, while anyone behind the scenes of the band likes to take their sweet ass time, and won't get back to me until the last minute. (I'll interject that I did talk to one manager...and SHE got back to me the same week, so she's excluded from that.)
I want to heavily promote this, therefore, I'd like to have it in stone by October so I can alert print publications about it and create some buzz. Then, everyone wins! Ideally, I'd like for the bands and venue to make money, and for me to be drunk and happy on my birthday, as I get closer to age 3-0.
In conclusion, if there's anything anyone would like to do to help, if you'd like to play on the blog showcase/birthday blowout, contact me and we'll work something out. Word.

Message for Bands.
Current mood: cheerful
Category: Music
Okay, really, if you're not in a band or associated with a band, then this is not for you, however, feel free to comment if you like.
Here's the thing, I write this blog where I review music, whether it be a CD or a live show, or just something I hear that I decide I cannot live without. I recognize that my little blog has started to gain momentum and recognition in various places judging by the hits I've been getting on my SiteMeter. I started this blog because I love to write about and promote local music, and now it's turned into a tool for that, and a reference.
Normally, I would just write about shows that I already planned on going to whether I was writing on them or not. If I happened to come up with inspiration, then I wrote. Now, though, I am trying to write more often than normal. I'm not forcing it. This brings into account a few things that give me moral dilemma:
1. I think I should broaden the reviews. Sounds good, right? Well, if you know me, you might know that I try my hardest to be brutally honest about what I hear and what I think, and I have no problem vocalizing that. Go here or here to witness my honesty. That being said, you have been warned that I will be honest. Love me or hate me, it's only my opinion after all. Broadening my spectrum leads to number 2...
2. I have had numerous requests to write about CDs and shows. If you are asking me to come out to a show, then you should put me on the list. If you want me to review your CD, then you had better send me a copy. Any band that I have written about has done one of those two things, either before or after I wrote something. It's one thing if I was already planning on attending the show or buying the album. It's quite another when you ask me to go out of my way to give you some kind of press and then offer nothing in return to make the trip/listening easier for yours truly.
I'm pretty sure that sounds bitchy, but I'm not made of money, and it adds up when you're paying $5-$10 to get in somewhere...especially when you're hitting two places in one night, which I have been known to do. Keep in mind, this blog is not my meal ticket, nor does it pay for my car, bills, roof over my head, etc. I love to write. I want to write about you, your music, and your band. I know the common courtesies associated with this, it's a mutual back-scratching world out there. I will scratch yours, probably more than once, if you will scratch mine.
Terribly sorry if it's offended anyone, but I believe my irritation has surpassed my couth.
