Rotary Seminyak Bali Fundraising - Aid Project
PRESS-RELEASE
Rotary Seminyak Bali Fundraising - Aid Project
Compassion, Joy, Love, Equanimity Bracelets & Keychain Rings
Seminyak, Bali, 22 June, 2005: Jewellery Designers Myrtha and Silvie, who are both members of The Rotary Club Bali Seminyak, have created an extraordinary bracelet set and key-chain ring and they have decided to turn 40 percent of the proceeds from sales into life-giving liquid assets for Rotary Bali Seminyaks projects to help people in need.
For additional information regarding how your contribution will be used, please visit www.rotaryseminyak.org where details of all the clubs projects are shown.
The four words in the heading of this release are featured on the bracelet and key-ring in the traditional Balinese script. These words were chosen by the designers because they felt that they epitomised the essential objectives of Rotary and what Rotary aims to achieve in the World.
They are what The Dalai Lama described as the Divine States of Dwelling, The Four Gates, which, when experienced fully, establish the foundations for happier, healthier living and an enlightened society.
Compassion is a sense of shared suffering, most often combined with a desire to alleviate or reduce such suffering; to show special kindness to those who suffer.
Joy, happiness or pleasure is the emotional state of being happy. The definition of happiness is one of the greatest philosophical quandaries. Proposed definitions include freedom from want and distress, consciousness of the good order of things, assurance of one's place in the universe or society, inner peace, and so forth.
Love is the most profoundly integrated state in the universe. It is simultaneously the highest, deepest and most powerful state of consciousness.
Equanimity is essentially a calmness of mind or temper; composure. In equanimity one still notices and cares about what is going on but has the capacity to be active rather than merely reactive.
The bracelet Sets and Key-chain Ring, will be launched on 28 June, 2006, at the annual Hand-over Dinner of the Rotary Club of Seminyak, this is when the current President of the club and other Board Members hand over office to the new President and Board, who will be in place until 30 June, 2007.
The Function will be held at Fabios Restaurant and F Lounge in Seminyak, and will be a buffet dinner at a cost of Rp.150, 000 per person, including one drink. Additional drinks will have to be paid for separately with 10% of the bar takings going to charity. Of the cost of the dinner, Rp.50, 000 will go towards funding Rotary projects.

The people of Yogyakarta of Central Java need our help
The people of Yogyakarta of Central Java need our help
The people of Yogyakarta and surrounding areas of Central Java need our help.
See below for a list of local Fund Raising Appeals for this disaster. This article appeared in todays Jakarta Post describing the situation.
Death toll rises to 3,800 ( and more )
BANTUL, Yogyakarta (AP): Thousands of exhausted and grieving survivors dug through their crumpled homes Sunday searching for clothes, food and valuables after a powerful earthquake hit Yogyakarta province, killing more than 3,800 people, according to command posts in affected areas.
Social Affairs Ministry official Direvan, who goes by only one name, briefly raised the death toll to 4,290, but later corrected that.
The magnitude-6.3 quake struck early Saturday and injured thousands more in the heart of densely populated Java island, in the country's worst disaster since the 2004 tsunami. It also triggered fears that a nearby rumbling volcano would erupt and caused serious damage to the world-famous 9th century Prambanan temple.
The disaster zone stretched across hundreds of square kilometers of mostly farming communities. The worst devastation was in the town of Bantul, where more than 2,400 people were killed and 80 percent of the homes were flattened.
Tens of thousands of people spent the night Saturday sleeping in any open space available - on streets, in cassava fields, even on the narrow paths between rice fields. Power and telephone service was out across much of the region, adding to the terrorof aftershocks.
About 450 aftershocks had shaken the region as of midday Sunday, with the strongest measuring magnitude 5.2, said Handi, an official at the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency who uses only one name.
The earthquake hit at 5:54 a.m., caving in tile roofs and sending walls crashing down. Survivors screamed as they ran from their homes, some clutching bloodied children and the elderly.
The quake was the latest in a series of disasters to hit Indonesia - including the 2004 tsunami that ravaged Aceh province, terrorist attacks, a widening bird flu outbreak and the threat of eruption from nearby Mount Merapi.
The quake's epicenter was 80 kilometers (50 miles) south of Merapi, and activity increased soon after the temblor. A large burst spewed hot clouds and sent debris cascading some 3.5 kilometers (two miles) down its western flank. No one was injured because nearby residents had already been evacuated. (**) Appeals

Powerful earthquake rocks Indonesia's Java island
Powerful earthquake rocks Indonesia's Java island, kills nearly 2,000 ..............and more ..........
YOGYAKARTA, Indonesia (AP) - A powerful earthquake flattened buildings in central Indonesia early Saturday, killing nearly 2,000 people, wounding thousands more and leaving overwhelmed doctors begging for help, officials said.
The magnitude 6.2 quake struck at 5:54 a.m. near the ancient city of Yogyakarta as many people slept, causing death and damage in many nearby towns. Roads and bridges were destroyed, hindering efforts to get the wounded to hospitals. Some phone lines also were cut.
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono ordered the army to help evacuate victims, as panicked residents ran into the smouldering streets, many clutching young children. He said he would head to the disaster zone in Central Java province later Saturday.
Nine hours after the quake struck, the number of dead stood at 1,987, said Sopar Djaya, an official in the Social Affairs Ministry's task force office, with two thirds of the fatalities in the devastated district of Bantul.
"The numbers just keep rising," said Arifin Muhadi of the Indonesian Red Cross, adding that nearly 2,900 people were hurt in the disaster - the worst to hit the sprawling archipelago since the 2004 tsunami.
Muhadi's death toll stood at around 1,400, but he said his agency had not been able to contact authorities in some of the hard hit areas.

BITCHOLOGY
Category: Fashion, Style, Shopping
When I stand up for myself and my beliefs, they call me a bitch.
When I stand up for those I love, they call me a bitch.
When I speak my mind, think my own thoughts or do things my own way, they call me a bitch Being a bitch means I won't compromise what's in my heart.
It means I live my life my way.
It means I won't allow anyone to step on me.
When I refuse to tolerate injustice and speak against it, I am defined as a bitch.
The same thing happens when I take time for myself instead of being everyone's maid, or when I act a little selfish.
It means I have the courage and strength to allow myself to be who I truly am and won't become anyone else's idea of what they think I "should" be.
I am outspoken, opinionated and determined.
I want what I want and there is nothing wrong with that!
So try to stomp on me, try to douse my inner flame, try to squash every ounce of beauty I hold within me.
You won't succeed.
And if that makes me a bitch, so be it.
I embrace the title and am proud to bear it.

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, wine in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming...
Damn, What a ride!!
