Fastest Women Alive from Jamaica
Current mood: ecstatic

Jamaica goes 1 - 2 - 3 in the Women's 100M in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Well actually 1 - 2 - 2. Jamaica swept the 100M as Shelly-Ann Fraser grabbed gold by leaving the competition in the proverbial dust. Kerron Stewart and Sherone Simpson tied for second to take home 2 additional silver medals to Jamaica.
Jamaica sets a historical first by recording the first ever sweep of its kind in Olympic track. Shelly-Ann Fraser ran 10.78. Kerron Stewart and Sherone Simpson ran 10.98.
Usain Bolt Takes Home Jamaica’s First Gold Medal
Current mood: excited

Usain Bolt takes home Jamaica's first Gold Medal in the Olympics. He also beat the world record he set for fastest man in the 100M of 9.72, by running 9.69.
15 meters before the end of the race, Jamaica's homegrown Lightning Bolt had already begun celebrating his victory. Imagine his time had he run full speed the entire race? Bolt decelerated and was still able to dominate the finals.
I'm looking forward to the 200M. Hopefully, Bolt can take home a second Gold Medal.
Big up to Trinidad and Tobago's Richard Thompson who placed second with a 9.89. That's 1 & 2 for the Caribbean in the 100M.

Coulda 1 of Dem... Coulda 2 a Dem... Coulda 3 a Dem...
The Jamaican Men's track team sends three to the 100M finals in the Olympics.
Big Up to: 1) Usain Bolt 2) Asafa Powell 3) Michael Frater
Tyson Gay made a strong showing, and it's sad to see him not make it to the finals. Much respect to Tyson for his humility, though. He could have blamed it on his hamstring, but didn't. He simply said today was not his day and he gave it 100%. A definite star in my book.

An echo in the night Woke me from sleep much disturbed My right hand, an unmarked map The left - Clenched a Dream Deferred.
With chest ignited The barren heart to be filled I crossed Many Waters And forsook all that was given.
In the land of great deserts Reborn to the world with no plan I wandered for days onto years My past buried in sand.
Forced back to the nest, Diminished images zoom by a forgotten home long since empty.
I set out with purpose A new life left to slate.
Marked Map now Unbound The risking sound calls to me; Forward whole and complete Clenched treasure in my left I look up to the sun On the day I broke ground.
Jamaica Gleaner News Features Caribbean Children’s Books Coomacka Island
Category: Writing and Poetry
This is a quick note for Sunday. Darnel Degand, Coomacka Island's illustrator, just informed me he received a Google Alert stating that Coomacka Island was featured in today's Jamaica Gleaner (Sunday, Feb. 17). Needless to say this is an exciting moment. It's one of the largest papers in the Caribbean with a circulation that reaches the Caribbean population in the U.S. as well.
