Introduction to Japanese Music Indsustry

Have you ever thought that Japanese music is so different from Western music Culture wise?
Last weekend, I was watching TV shows and thought that the mass is not looking for great music, but searching for the good songs so they can sing along KARAOKE.

Karaoke is one of the most powerful culture in japan. People goes to Karaoke BOX ,which is very small room, just 6people can fit in.  In the Box, there are  Karaoke Machine with 20 inch TV, remote controller, a table, and 6 chairs ..something like that. People sing what they want to sing. Some wants to spend time for hours just to get the frustration out from their lives. Some like, college students for instance, spent night with thier friends and sing songs all night. 

One interesting thing is that the Karaoke Machine has jugding system. After the singer sang a song, the machine gives the points, like the Figure Skating judging. However, this one is Automatic. 
If you can sing appropriately, it gives you 100/100. So people wants to earn that points so that they buy the records, and practice songs to earn that stupid points. Most singles (CD) has Karaoke version (just instrument) for practice.  if you would like to improve singing Karaoke, you can go to Karaoke lessons.

Professional composers makes money this way. The good money comes when they make a good songs for Karaoke. No complicated melody, No tricky rythms, and No difficult words YET somehow CATCHY , and Little bit new, little bit funky and little bit funny is good. 
Mass is waiting for new songs to sing, therefore,  musicians needs to make songs one after another for them.  People will buy the record to practice those songs. That's how to make millions in Japan, and this is called J-POP.

and... once they are sang.. they will be PAST.. they are done... spent.
