Want to MAKE SURE you can get into the show?

As you know, it's free.  BUT, in the chance that we hit capacity and have to cut it off (which WILL happen), I've got a way for you to MAKE SURE you get in.

All you have to do is two things:

1) Make the flier your profile image.  It's just for a week and it's a COOL flier.

2) Hit me up this weekend and let me know that you want to pass out fliers at your high school, college, work, church, etc etc

I will be dropping off a stack of fliers at CD Central on Sunday (10/07) and they will have YOUR NAME ON THEM.  That way you get the fliers and I know that you picked them up to pass them out.

Then, I will put you and a guest on the "reserved list" which will insure that you get in.

So, let me know if you're interested and I will add you to the list.  THANKS!

Another Sponsor Just Added!!! ---> Gumbo Ya Ya

Hey guys,

It takes a lot of people to make the upcoming Haste The Day show free and I would like to announce another local business that wants to support the Lexington All Ages Music Scene.

GUMBO YA YA!  (http://www.gumboyayaky.com/)

These dudes (and ladies) cook up some of the TASTIEST (did i mention cheap?) cajun food this side of the Mississippi.  I STRONGLY suggest you head on over to one of their two Lexington locations (1080 S. Broadway or 4101 Tates Creek Centre) and try it out.  I highly recommend the Maque Choux which is just amazing.

So head on over and try out some food, thank them for helping out with the show, and remember to always support locally owned businesses and Lexington All Ages music.

If you work for a business (or know of one) that might be interested in sponsoring this show.  Let us know.

See you on the 12th!!!

Looks Like We Ended Up in W Weekly

Someone mentioned this to me the other day and I figured I would pass along the story and the link.  The full text can be found here.  Thanks to the folks of W Weekly for their kind words.

"The end of one of Lexington's musical institutions is upon us. This week Counterfiction Productions has announced that after three years of booking and promoting shows they are calling it quits. The heart and head of the operation, John Winters, posted a long goodbye note on the Counterfiction MySpace page explaining that the reason for his decision is ultimately a result of the lack of proper venues in town. It's true; there just aren't many options for all ages shows in Lexington. Every now and then one will pop up and look promising, but it always seems to go away for one reason or another. And with scant places to host these shows, there wasn't a lot that Winters could do, regardless of how desperately he wanted them to go on. All the guys at Counterfiction did a great job of bringing all ages shows to Lexington, and they deserve a collective round of applause for such drive and ambition."

THE END OF COUNTERFICTION

This Is The End

Counterfiction has always been a dream for me.  Today, like so many other dreams of mine, Counterfiction is officially dead.  There will be no more shows.  Everything on the calendar has been effectively cancelled and these shows will not be rescheduled in the future.  I'm sorry but that is the state of things.  Some shows may be picked up by other local promoters and I urge you to support these shows.

I started booking shows in 1997 because bands that I loved weren't coming to my town.  I started booking in Lexington because I was tired of driving out of town for great shows and I wanted to give the youth of Lexington great live music.  My very first show in Lexington was As Cities Burn and they played to 34 kids.  The last show was Discover America and they played to about the same.  In between I saw ups and downs but I've never been so down as I am right now.  Putting an end to something that I poured blood, sweat, and tears into for almost three years is a hard thing to do.

The reason that this is all coming to an end is the same thing that has always plagued Lexington, venues.  We've been through so many in the last few years, each one the new hope that Lexington will finally have something to call their own.  Finally, this spring, I thought that we had all found that place in a little restaurant/bar called Alondras.  Unfortunately that doesn't seem to be the case as they have cancelled all future all ages shows.  If you would like to contact them and express your feelings about the situation you may contact Marisol Valles at the following:

            e-mail: reservations@alondrasbar.com
            cell: 502-320-4310

This is the last straw in a long struggle to continue to do all ages shows here in Lexington.  Unfortunately, this has put a permanent end to any shows I would have done in the future.  I just can't continue to fight for shows.  Instead I'm going to be spending more time with my family, friends, and myself.  I hope you all can understand why I'm doing this.

Best Wishes Lexington,

John Winters
Counterfiction Productions

Along the way I've seen some incredible bands play.  I'll never forget the sweat dripping off of the walls at the Beaumont YMCA for Haste The Day, Unearth playing at Short Street Lounge, Murder By Death showing the Dame that 18+ shows can work, War of Ages playing in Lexington every chance they got, Most Precious Blood and With Honor at Arts Place, Modern Life Is War at 129 Clay Avenue, and every single other show I've poured my heart into and every other band who poured out their heart on stages and floors across Lexington.

Along the way I've also met some incredible people and made some great friends.  First off I want to thank Doug and Jaye for everything they've ever done for me.  They've always worked hard to design fliers, work the door, run sound, hand out and post fliers, grunt labor, and anything else we all had to do.  I also want to specifically thank Matt Wilson, Chris Goff, and Dave Rhineheimer for running sound at virtually every single one of my shows.

Thanks To All These People For Their Continued Support:
Michael at Southside, Dave at the YMCA, Rodney and Ben at Lex Arts, Steve and the CD Central crew (support your local independent record store!), Dan and Jamie from Forever Endeavor, Mikey P and Nick Sprouse At The Dame, all the WRFL staff (especially Mikey T, Chuck Clenney, John Edwards, Travis Pierce, and Chris Thuringer) for consistently supporting all-ages shows, Ross Compton and the Lexington Project, Gumbo Ya Ya (best Cajun in town), Theresa at Mecca, the fine folks of the American Legion Hall Post #9, Jim and Greg at Short Street Lounge, John Ransdell, Adam Spradling, Samantha Murphy (best door worker and flier printer ever), Stephen Lowe, Tim Hurt (security mosh), Dustin, Eddy Mason, Cameron, Anthony and Randi, everyone who ever worked security, everyone who ever worked the door, everyone who reposted a MySpace bulletin, everyone who told a friend about a show, and every single person who ever came to a Counterfiction show.  Without all of you, I could have never done a single show in Lexington.  I owe it all to you.  If I left you out, I'm sorry.

Thanks To All The Bands Who Played Counterfiction Shows:
100 Demons - A Life Once Lost - And We Danced - A Nightmare & A Cataclysm - A Present Day Nightmare – Aletheian - Anam Cara - And Bullets Fall – Apiary - As Cities Burn - As Tall As Lions - August Burns Red - Becoming The Archetype - Black My Heart – Brazil - The Burning Season - Cadaver In Drag - The Chariot - Chasing Victory - The Classic Struggle - Dead By Wednesday - Dead Hearts - Death Before Dishonor - Death Comesto Matteson - Destroy The Runner - Destroy To Give Birth - Discover America - The Distance - Evergreen Terrace – Expedite - First Blood - Flesh Of Captains - Four Story Massacre - Full Blown Chaos - Haste The Day – Heartthrob - Her Dying Wish – Himsa - In Endeavors Italya - Inked In Blood – Jonezetta - Leave It At The Door - Life In Your Way - Life Or Death - Maylene and the Sons Of Disaster - Modern Life Is War - Morning Has Broken - Mortal Treason - Most Precious Blood – Motel - Murder By Death - The New Amsterdams - The Ninety Five Theses – Nora - Oceans Firing - O Jerusalem - Oh The Blood - Parlour Boys – Patriarch - Petticoat, Petticoat – Phlegethon - Pound For Pound - Pronounce Me Dead – Rattletooth - xReign Of Terrorx - Scary Kids Scaring Kids - The Silverscreen - Sink Or Swim - Society's Finest - Some Gave All - xSon Of Dayx - State Bird - Still Remains – Subseven - Suffocate Faster – sWordplay - Take My Word - Tears To Glory - Ten Year Winter - This Is Hell - Twelve Gauge Valentine - Under His Wings – Unearth - War Of Ages - Wes Meek - Winston Jazz Routine - Winter Solstice - With Blood Comes Cleansing - With Honor

THE NINETY FIVE THESES (reunion show) - NEW INFO!

I know that you all have heard about the Ninety Five Theses reunion show this friday.  I'll post the flier below.

We're really trying to hold onto Alondras as an incredible place to do all ages shows so this show in particular is really important.

SO, this friday will be a little different from your average show.

Not only will you get to see four bands for the low price of $5 (just like the good old days) but we will have a lot more going on.

We will be giving away a ton of free CDs, free posters and old fliers, we will be selling some prints from the Murder By Death and Most Precious Blood shows with proceeds going to the venue, and we will have some great deals on food and drinks.

So please, come out to enjoy the show and support a great venue that will be a huge part of the Lexington scene if we can keep it around.

We'll see you all on Friday.

HEY LOCAL BANDS! WANNA PLAY SOME SHOWS?
Category: Music

Interested in playing a Counterfiction show?

All of us here at Counterfiction have realized that there is alot of local talent in the KY area that doesn't always get the chance to play our shows. Well, here's your chance to show us what you've got.

Counterfiction will be hosting local shows each month so that you can show us and everyone else what you're made of.

Here's the best part: YOU WILL GET PAID and if we like what we see and hear from you we'll put you on some of our bigger name shows.

As you know, Counterfiction has a reputation for putting local bands on big name shows.

Some of those include:
The 95 Theses (played with The Chariot)
Patriarch (Played with First Blood)
Motel (playing with Murder By Death)
O Jerusalem (Played with 100 Demons)
Under His Wings (played with August Burns Red)

If you're interested in playing one of these shows, please contact our local show promoter Jaye here.

There are only 5 spots open per show but each band can only play once a month, so we will keep things on a fresh rotation. The first two shows are in May.

AGAIN

DO NOT CONTACT COUNTERFICTION DIRECTLY!!!!
CONTACT Jaye here

ALL BANDS AND STYLES WELCOME

thanks,
John - Doug - Jaye

Set Your Goals Cancellation Info

Yeah, this sucks.

Unfortunately Set Your Goals wrecked their van (which was brand new, unfortunately) and won't be able to play on Sunday.  The show is cancelled.  You have no idea how much it sucks to say this as I was really looking forward to this show.

They have promised to reschedule a date later in the spring/summer so keep an eye out for that.

Once again, I'm sorry to everyone who was going to come out and all the bands who were going to play.
