Life is change and it is impossible to predict what the future will bring. You can plan for any possible future that you can imagine, but what about the future that you can't imagine. All we can do is keep an open mind and instead of resisting change, we can 'flow' with it and learn from it and hope to become a better person.
Any person that has been in the ocean and been caught in a riptide will know that as the riptide pulls you out into the ocean and away from land. You can swim against the current and you will make no headway. All you will do is tire yourself out and eventually drown, but if you keep your senses and swim at an angle with the current, you allow the current to give you momentum and by swimming at an angle, you escape the current and free yourself.
Life is like that.. You can fight the current of life and all you will do is tire yourself out or you can allow the current to free yourself by swimming with it, not against it.
Life if a river. It is always changing and never the same. Emjoy the ride and you will enjoy life. Struggle against it and you will always be in a constant struggle. Enjoy the ride and allow life to be your companion, not your adversary.

I read a blog about racism the other day and it reminded me of a conversation I had with a friend of mine.First a little background information.
I used to work for a marketing company and there were several of us that traveled to a new city every two weeks and set up courses and displayed the newest cars for Daimler Chrysler.We had Dodges, Chrysler and Jeeps. We spent a lot of time together and got to know each other pretty well.
When I first started one of the guys that ended up being one of my best friends did not think very highly of me.Once we became friends, he told me that since I shaved my head and was white, he figured I was a racist skinhead.He quickly learned I wasn't and we became great friends.
One day, he told me that he couldn't figure out us "white people".He told me, "you call yourselves French, German, Italian, English and all these other different names, but you are fucking white.You are all just white people there is no difference between you." (He wasn't referring to difference in philosophy or attitude, he just meant in race/nationality).
Well a few days later someone was talking about "Mexicans" and he got all riled up.He said, "I AM NOT A FUCKING MEXICAN.My family is from El Salvador. Why does everyone lump us into one group?It pisses me off."
I started laughing and he asked me what was so funny.I reminded him about his comment a few days previously about how whites were "all just white people."I asked him if he didn't find it a bit hypocritical that he lumped, all white people into one category but became upset if people lumped, all "Hispanics" as "Mexicans".
He thought about it and started laughing, because he never realized that in his own way, he was being a racist, by categorizing all people by the color of his skin.Instead of judging people by their actions, he judged them by their skin color.People with pale skin, "were just white people" they were not individuals.
Afterwards, he told me that he realized that he had been as guilty (but without the violence) as some racist.
People can be racist and not even realize it.They may even be your friends.With a friendly conversation, without accusation but only questions; we can show people the error of their ways.Even if it is a friend of yours, you should speak out.Speak out as a friend and show them that regardless of skin color; we are all people.Regardless of by what name you call God (or even if you believe in God), we are all people. Regardless of where someone is born, we are all people.
He was my friend and he is my friend, and I helped him realize the truth.
Put a group of people into a room of all races, religions and countries of origins and then turn the lights out. If it is completely dark, you will not be able to tell who is white or black, who is Christian or atheist, who is from Australia or Africa. You know why? Because we are all just people.
Do you have friends that are racist and don't even realize it?Just because they are your friends, don't be afraid to talk with them.Help them realize that people are just people.People say that charity begins at home, well so does the end of racism and bigotry.
Will you do your part? Will you help stop the cycle of hatred?Will you even try?

Laurie sent a bulletin out with a video on it of Nickelback's video "If Everyone Cared". I know you are thinking, so what. Personally, I think they are an awesome group, but if you hate that type of music, watch the video, but even more important, READ WHAT INFORMATION THEY SHOW ON THE VIDEO. Look and see how a few people have made a difference. It doesn't take a million person march. It only takes one person to start a movement that grows and makes a difference. So watch and read the video(it is less than five minutes long) and then check out the info I listed under it.
Notice how one or two people started a movement that actually made a difference. People do care, but everyone feels like they can't make a difference. We just need one or two people to decide to take action, and others will follow.
Now is the time to step up. Whether as a leader or a follower, get involved.
It doesn't matter if you want to contact the goverment about global warming, the Iraqi War, the treatment of our veterans, the Patriot Act or anything; but contact your representative and let them know how you feel. Whether for or against, I am not promoting one or the other, I am just saying let our elected representatives know how you feel.
I will even make it easy for you. Here are links and phone numbers to contact your representative and tell them how you feel. If you can't take five minutes to watch this video and five more minutes to make your feelings known, unsubscribe to me; I have no use for you and neither does the world.

You can also call 1-800-459-1887 or 1-800-614-2803 both of these numbers also contact the Capital. The 2803 asks that you know who your representative is, but they will look it up for you, it just takes longer. The 0498 just ask for your zip code and they do the rest. I recommend that one.
What ever your feelings are? Call, email, speak out and make a difference.
