“You’re Getting The Call”

So, since I've been kind of tight lipped about it because, well, I don't really know, I got the call from Portland last week and they offered me the job, which I took

I still am looking at jobs in Seattle and trying to get things in order there. On the plus side of Portland, more people I know, more money, better location to hop home on a moments notice, and according to Matt, a good working environment. So here's hoping. I think it's gonna be a fun adventure, and I'll have a lot of people down there, my aunt and uncle included.

So, I leave Spokane on March 7th and start on the 17th. I've got a place already at Matt's complex. It's nice and I'm looking forward to having my own place.

I know it's been forever since my last blog, I guess I just felt things weren't that interesting, LOL. Even this one's a little short.

At any rate, see everyone later!

"Heart Of The Ocean"

I posted this a few months back, given today's date, I thought it pertinent to post again.

Let's rewind for a second, 10 years ago, Bill Clinton had just started his second term, IBM's Deep Blue computer beat Garry Kasparov in a chess rematch, and three guys (that's me, Jason and Dan for those that don't know) were all in Penny Bullock's 10th grade English class.

On December 19th, "Titanic" hit theaters, I was pumped. I'd been reading up on the film for months, and I was all set. A James Cameron Film and a score by James Horner, for me, that was all I needed to know. My friend Jason was with me (Dan wasn't there for some reason) and he (Jason) really wanted to see the new Bond film, "Tomorrow Never Dies." We agreed that if "007" was sold out we'd see "Titanic" instead.

As my luck would have it, "007" was sold out. Jason and I entered the theater and found a seat in the middle. Looking around I remember the place was like 95% girls…needless to say, I think Jason and I feel a bit out of place.

I'll never forget the opening of this film. A sepia toned image of the ship going by the camera, with Horner's haunting music matching the somber tone of the screen. I remember muttering the words "Oh shit." Jason looked at me and asked what was up. I turned and said "if the music is any indication, this film is gonna be amazing."

You know, there are points in your life that you can recall with such focus and clarity it's scary...those are the events that must mean something...one of them for me, it was seeing "Titanic" that night and knowing at that point, I wanted to be a film editor.

I saw the film 6 times in the theater. And while Jason was a bit lackluster about the film, my friend Dan wasn't. I swear, he and I were the only two guys at Interlake High who would talk on and on about the film. I think we were (and still are) kind of obsessed with it. I remember Penny Bullock, bought the soundtrack and would play it in class when we were there. I even wrote a paper on the film for her class (which I still have on a backup CD somewhere!) Mrs. Bullock would later tell me that I'd forever been glued into her mind when it came to "Titanic."

Despite what people say about the film, it's a technical masterpiece. Cameron at the top of his game and bring every card to play on the screen. To this day, the film never fails to impress me in all aspects. Of course the editing is stunning and still to this day, James Horner's score; I can remember every note of music. When the second CD, "Back To Titanic" came out, my mom just laughed at me and called me "funny."

I love this film. Plain and simple. It's an amazing piece of film history and one of my all time favorites…no matter how much time passes...it never gets old for me.

Crazed fan? You bet!

ACADEMY AWARD-WINNER PETER JACKSON AND NEW LINE CINEMA JOIN WITH MGM TO PRODUCE "THE HOBBIT," EAGERLY-ANTICIPATED FANTASY ADVENTURE EPIC

NEW LINE AND MGM TO CO-PRODUCE AND SHARE WORLDWIDE DISTRIBUTION RIGHTS

PETER JACKSON AND FRAN WALSH TO EXECUTIVE PRODUCE TWO FILMS BASED ON "THE HOBBIT"

Los Angeles, CA (Tuesday, December 18, 2007) Academy Award-winning filmmaker Peter Jackson; Harry Sloan, Chairman and CEO, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc. (MGM); Bob Shaye and Michael Lynne, Co-Chairmen and Co-CEOs of New Line Cinema have jointly announced today that they have entered into the following series of agreements:

* MGM and New Line will co-finance and co-distribute two films, "The Hobbit" and a sequel to "The Hobbit." New Line will distribute in North America and MGM will distribute internationally.

* Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh will serve as Executive Producers of two films based on "The Hobbit." New Line will manage the production of the films, which will be shot simultaneously.

* Peter Jackson and New Line have settled all litigation relating to the "Lord of the Rings" (LOTR) Trilogy.

Said Peter Jackson, "I'm very pleased that we've been able to put our differences behind us, so that we may begin a new chapter with our old friends at New Line. 'The Lord of the Rings' is a legacy we proudly share with Bob and Michael, and together, we share that legacy with millions of loyal fans all over the world. We are delighted to continue our journey through Middle Earth. I also want to thank Harry Sloan and our new friends at MGM for helping us find the common ground necessary to continue that journey."

"Peter Jackson has proven himself as the filmmaker who can bring the extraordinary imagination of Tolkien to life and we full heartedly agree with the fans worldwide who know he should be making 'The Hobbit,'" said Sloan, MGM's Chairman and CEO. "Now that we are all in agreement on 'The Hobbit,' we can focus on assembling the production team that will capture this phenomenal tale on film."

Bob Shaye, New Line Co-Chairman and Co-CEO comments, "We are very pleased we have been able to resolve our differences, and that Peter and Fran will be actively and creatively involved with 'The Hobbit' movies. We know they will bring the same passion, care and talent to these films that they so ably accomplished with 'The Lord of the Rings' Trilogy."

"Peter is a visionary filmmaker, and he broke new ground with 'The Lord of the Rings,'" notes Michael Lynne, New Line Co-Chairman and Co-CEO. "We're delighted he's back for 'The Hobbit' films and that the Tolkien saga will continue with his imprint. We greatly appreciate the efforts of Harry Sloan, who has been instrumental in helping us reach our new accord."

The two "Hobbit" films – "The Hobbit" and its sequel – are scheduled to be shot simultaneously, with pre-production beginning as soon as possible. Principal photography is tentatively set for a 2009 start, with the intention of "The Hobbit" release slated for 2010 and its sequel the following year, in 2011.

The Oscar-winning, critically-acclaimed LOTR Trilogy grossed nearly $3 billion worldwide at the box-office. In 2003, "Return of the King" swept the Academy Awards, winning all of the eleven categories in which it was nominated, including Best Picture – the first ever Best Picture win for a fantasy film. The Trilogy's production was also unprecedented at the time.

"The Snow Day"

Ok, so today was crazy.

Trying to nail down a ton of edits, I realized that it was dumping snow in Pullman! Knowing that'd it would be an issue if I stayed, I left around 3pm. The smart driver I am, I was going 40 basically the whole way. I saw a roll over accident, and a car that had gotten busted up from a ditch I'd assume. Its front end was all banged up. Either way, nothing could have prepared me for what I'd find myself in while driving back on the 195 from Pullman.

The 195 is a two way highway, with the exception of two points where it goes into three lanes. The incident happened on one of those stretches of highway, other wise, I'd not be here writing this.

I was almost alone on the highway. There was a line of cars approaching and there was a bus somewhere behind me. I was going around 45 or 50, noticing my speed was slightly high; I was tapping by brakes when I must have drifted too close to the snow on the side of the road because all of a sudden I was semi fishtailing in my lane. However I was going down a slight slope and gaining some speed. My car all of a sudden hit some more snow in the road and I pulled about a 90-110 degree turn in the middle of the road and I was trying not to do a 360. Lucky I got it to stop, but half of my car was smack turned on the double yellow. In short, in the center of the highway. Quickly I turned to my left, there was an oncoming bus, looking to my right, a line of cars, fronted by a small red one.

::sigh::

Turning my wheel, I gassed my car and fishtailed out into where the red car was coming. Here's where the two lanes of traffic come in. The red car shifted away from me, itself starting its own fishtail, and in my trying to get into the side of the road, I also saw it almost hit the bus. Me and the car were fishtailing behind each other and both eventually made it to the side of the road. No one harmed or hurt.

I was shaking. I was the driver of the other driver get out and run about 100 feet or more towards me. I was still shacking, but also got out and ran toward him. We met in the middle, the girl he was with following him. We both asked if the other was ok, when the girl came up she hugged both of us. It was kind of wild. I was still shacking and ended up kneeling on the snow trying to catch my breath.

We all stood there; glad to be alive, and then we got in our cars and drove our separate ways.

What kind of day has it been...
