August Full Moon
Category: Dreams and the Supernatural

The August Full Moon is known as The Green Corn Moon, the Grain Moon, and/or the Red Moon. In its close proximity to Lammas, these names are understandable as some of the Lammas energies are carried over into this Full Moon.

Deities associated with grain – such as Osiris, Tammuz, and Adonis – as well as solar deities all had themes of Life, Sacrifice, and Rebirth. The end of the growing season is drawing near, and the sunlight is waning, giving way to the wonderful longer nights of the year. The symbolic sacrifices of these spirits or deities is a big part of Lammas, and again carried over to a lesser extent to the Full Moon.

The names Green Corn Moon and Grain Moon reflect the deity sacrificed, of course. The Red Moon means both the blood of sacrifice, as well as the red tinge seen on the moon itself this time of year.

This Full Moon is a great time for Blood Oaths, for doing Covenant ceremonies for those who have not already done so; for reflecting on them for those who have. This is a time for embracing the Darkness and the growing Night energies.

You also might want to enhance your celebration by adding elements of corn or grains (breads, maybe even grain-based liquors) to the After-Ceremony feasting, or adding an ear of corn or wheat stalk to altar decorations.

To some Native American tribes, this is also known as the Sturgeon Moon, since these fish seem the most plentiful at this time of year – a prosperous time for those who depend on fishing or the water for livelihoods. For this water-related energy, some of you may also want to give some extra honor to Leviathan. Use your imaginations – anything from adding seafood or maybe caviar to your feast to having some blue decorations somewhere to having flowing water sound FX in the background to just adding a touch of Carnal and/or Chaos energies, which Leviathan oversees, to the celebration.

For 2006, this Full Moon falls on August 16.

World Premier of "Prometheus Triumphant"!
Current mood: cultured
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities

The World Premier of "Prometheus Triumphant" will be held 5pm on Aug. 16 at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood, CA!

Everyone has GOT to check out the movie "Prometheus Triumphant"! It's done as a vintage silent movie, and great storyline that's a bit Nosferatu, a bit Phantom of the Opera, a bit of Frankenstein, and a bit of Reanimator after the main character loses his love to the Plague and tries to bring her back to life.

And the excellent soundtrack is EXCELLENT, creating the perfect moods for each scene!

Anyone who's anywhere close to the Egyptian Theatre, BE THERE! It's an event not to be missed!

July Full Moon
Current mood: jedi
Category: Dreams and the Supernatural

The July Full Moon is a powerful one indeed – the Thunder Moon! It's also known as the Buck Moon or the Hay Moon.

The Summer Storm and Hurricane season is in full swing – the very air is charged with electricity at this time. July is also the time of year when young bucks are coming into maturity, feeling their power and testing their strength as their velvety new antlers push their way out of the bucks' foreheads. As far as the hay moon, this crop is coming to maturity towards the end of its Spring/Early Summer growing season, and is getting ready for harvest, mainly to feed livestock over the cold winter months. (Granted, this info/logic once again is for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere. Those in the Southern Hemisphere, I recommend Reversing the traditional "Wheel of the Year" set up traditionally in the Northern Hemisphere - for instance, celebrate Midsummer instead of Yule in December, and vice versa when June rolls around.)

Ways to enhance your celebrations: Add storm sound FX into the background, and tap into the electricity in the air. Any lightning/storm-related decorations would be good as well for your sacred space. Carnivores might want to add venison to their feast. The rest of us can add deer decorations, garden flowers on the altar (which wild deer love to eat), and maybe wheat-grass or other green smoothies (to celebrate the Hay aspect). Also, celebrate the bounty of summer by adding freshly grown fruits and vegetables to your feast – if they're from your own garden or a farmer's produce stand, all the better.

Another interesting nuance is that in Chinese lore, the July Full Moon is known as the "Hungry Ghost Moon", so it might be a good time to share ghost stories after the ceremony.

Air is the predominant element this time around. Air (wind) brings the storms, and again has its own electrical charge. So give special praise to Lucifer, the ruler of the Air element to your celebrations. Also ponder Enlightenment and matters of the Mind and also Communications, all ruled by Air.

For 2008, this Full Moon falls on July 18.
