Tatum!
Man, I was bummed out to hear that Tatum O'Neal got busted for buying drugs. And not just drugs, but the most low-rent, Maury Povich TV show member of the drug family, crack cocaine. Obviously she comes from a party family, but I was always (and still am) pulling for Tatum.
I am fairly certain that one of the first crushes of my life was her, after seeing "Paper Moon" and realizing that we were the same age (we still might be). Somehow, back then, I thought that being the same age gave us some kind of shot together. It's still one of my favorite movies. I thought she was off the bad stuff. Maybe she was just buying it for her Dad (sorry).
I hope she effing pulls out of it, though. Come on, Tatum! You don't need crack cocaine! You don't! You're a mom! You're a good woman! An author! An Oscar winner!
Come on, Tatum!

Attention: New York City, Philadelphia
Look for the gently famous Poi Dog Pondering Acoustic Quintette, Friday Jan 18th at Joe's Pub in Manhattan. If that show is too sold out for you, or you live in, on, or near Philadelphia, then have a good lie down until we get to town Sunday, Jan 20th at World Cafe Live!
Hope to see you there!
With warmth, Dag Juhlin

BRYAN EVENING Presents The Classic Album Series
Current mood: Too distracted to work
How is listening to a Jimi Hendrix album like drifting in a rowboat without paddles, while a woman talks in hideous detail about a foot operation? I don't know, but Bryan Evening makes a dang good case for the comarison. In addition to his wealth of record reviews, Bryan's now begun dissecting the greatest albums of all time, and kicks off the series with a look at the Jimi Hendrix classic, 'Are You Experienced?'
Visit:
http://www.myspace.com/bryanevening
then make him one of your MySpace friends, and subscribe to his blog!

I nominate myself as Artist of the Year
Current mood: smelling of pine needles
Category: smelling of pine needles Music
"Artist of the Year"? Well, that's quite an overstatement. It's ridiculous, really. Just a stupid whim that I regretted as soon as I wrote it. I apologise for even bringing up such a pathetic notion, especially when there are bold visionaries like Trent Rayner, Billy Joe Corrigan and Don Feldney (of Eagles) out there gitting her done in such a better and profoundly way.
But in a year that's found me playing with the fancy pants Chicago Sinfonietta, dirty pants Andre Williams, The Goldstars, Poi dog Pondering, The Greenwoods, and even singing the seventh inning stretch at Wrigley Field, I am adding one more classy entry to my dance card. I am playing in Robert Pollard's band for a pair of shows this weekend. This is a big thrill for me, not only as a Guided by Voices/Pollard fan, but because the guys I am playing with are among the finest, friendliest and funnest I have rocked with ever of all times I swear to gosh totally.
Join us this Friday at Chicago's Metro.
Robert Pollard live featuring:
Robert Pollard : frontman Jason Narducy - bass, backing vox David Suycott - drums Dag Juhlin - guitar, backing vox Mitch Marlow - guitar
FRIDAY NOVEMBER 30th with Death Of Fashion & The Party Downers Chicago, IL METRO Tickets on sale Saturday Oct. 6th at Ticketmaster.com More info to follow
Then, borrow your parents' station wagon (why is it a "station" wagon? Why the "station"? Why not just a "wagon"?) and zip your gravy damaged backside to Kentucky. (You'll fit right in!)
SATURDAY DECEMBER 1 with Death Of Fashion Newport, KY Southgate House 18+ Tickets on sale NOW
THESE WILL BE THE ONLY SHOWS THAT BOB WILL PLAY IN 2007!
Come on out, if you want to be splendid and loved.
Recently, the Poi dog Pondering shows were all EXCELLENT! We have a short series of dates planned with an acoustic five-piece version of the band (some in the midwest, some out east), so I will update you on when those are happening (hint: early early 2008).
This isn't really a blog, is it? It's just another goddamn commercial. I am sorry again.

An update: marginally informative at best.
Current mood: Thirsty
Category: Thirsty Religion and Philosophy
I thought I'd try out this 'blog' (am I pronounciating that right?) feature here on Myspace. I hope I do it right!
Check out my page for some new music offerings. There's a sandy, mirage-y bit of world music called "July 27" which should be in a movie about camels. There's a symphonic/orchestral tribute to my name, an unsolicited rendering from my top 8 friend Monty, which is way fancier than I deserve. But he is not one to not be fancy. You'll also hear "Icarus, I" which is my attempt at a pretty song. Though when I sang it I had a cold, which was not pretty. Finally, there's "Time Flies Apart" which is a stompingly tangy bit of rock, that I hope prompts you to smack a tambourine against your shaking hips, provided you are wearing tight peg-legged cords and a striped tee.
You'll also be able to view a slideshow which depicts various scenes from the Goldstars' recent trip to Spain, backing Andre Williams. We had a fantastic trip and I hope you enjoy not only the photos, but the meaningful and explanatory captions as well.
Things are slow yet not slow. Poi Dog is gearing up for a very busy November, the Goldstars are playing Thurs. Oct. 4 at the Beat Kitchen and I am busy learning songs for a few shows with a superstar, which I don't know if I am allowed to mention. The Greenwoods? That's anyone's guess. I've been watching this show, "Mad Men", and you know, it's not bad. It's not awesome, and I am not even sure if I am actually even that wild about it. But it seems like everyone has a show that they watch and talk about, so I thought I'd start watching this thing. I get the repeats free on the HD cable, so I have been checking these chain-smoking doofus advertising fellows out. I dunno. Maybe I should be reading instead. Or blogging.
I know what I'll do, I'll go back to the songwriting session I interrupted to blog this.
Happy Early Autumn Weekend to YOU, from Dag J.

What is Spanish for "I am about to leave for Spain"?
Current mood: Vaguely Spanish
Good morning...
Yes, the Goldstars are winging to Oviedo, Spain (via Madrid) this afternoon. We're backing up R & B legend André Williams at a rock festival in a bull-ring, where stalwarts such as Jason & The Scorchers and The Georgia Satellites are also slated to appear.
Also, my daughter started high school today. So I've got plenty of things to make me feel old this morning.
Happy September, blog readers. If you live near Spain, please come to the show Thursday night. Photos in a week, sangria for all when I return.
Dag J.

Listen, we've got to be cool...
...the young lady needs our help and encouragement. This is NOT the time to be making 'Lindsay Blow-han' jokes. It's just not cool. She's in trouble.
Thanks, Dag

Is it OK to write a poem in a blog?
Current mood: determined
Category: Fashion, Style, Shopping
A POEM FOR MYSPACE by Dag Juhlin, poet
****
Oh, MySpace You are named Ashleigh. Or Jenn. You are, like, so blonde. So ceaselessly cleavaged. I am so sure. I love that I can see your entire bottom row of teeth When you smile, Leaning in close with your best friend forever Named Bekka Beans or StacieQ Who also bares her bottom teeth and gums In a similar blonde Semi-formal, clinging fashion At a great party.
MySpace, I love your friends named >>>DZZZ*iz*the BEST, YO<<< and Tony.Love or JADEN19 And especially --F-DAWG beeyatches--- And their early moustaches Standing like soft, timid weeds Growing out of the side of An alabaster museum that celebrates How awesome it is to not know much While a sideways cap Like a trusty compass Points the way to stupid.
Oh, MySpace, I love your commercials For movies I'll never see Starring sad-eyed celebutantes. I love your sweet, premise-based comedians And their short films In which their swears are so funny. I love your 'must-love' bands Because you told me to love them And they are so loveable. With their guyliner and white belts Which will not be popular anymore Very soon, because that's the way it goes.
Oh, MySpace. Oh, Tom, friend to us all. Though I try to hold you at arm's length I still cannot resist the urge To fire off the flash, Showing you my bottom row of teeth. Like, oh my god, MySpace.
*****
HELLO! Briefly: Greenwoods/CD in HOT progress, fantastic vocal sessions yielding great results, even though it's ME that's singing. PDP new record mastered and fantastic. Goldstars still churning out the love, going to Spain in the fall. Solo Dag Juhlin music is sounding either electro poppy or slow motion.
Other news: Man, I am sunburn.
I hope you like the poem and have had a great Father's Day. If yours was half as good as mine, I'd say you're in excellent shape.
With constant aloe applications, dagj
