What Is A Bush Democrat and How Can I Get Rid of It?
..:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
By this point in history, we all know that something is rotten in Washington. From the President to the Senate to the House to the Lobbyists on down, our nation's government has eroded into as corrupt a system as any in a middle-eastern nation.
"Oh, sure…but what can I do about it?" is the answer I get over and over again as I ask those around me and online what they think about the current situation.
Hello!!? You can do your civic duty and get out there to vote in the next--and all following elections!
"Hey…no fair! I voted in the last election (or every election) and look! Not much has changed…politicians are, by nature, crooked. Nothing I can do."
WRONG AGAIN. This time, try doing your homework. Then and only then do we have a fighting chance to turn our nation back to her origins: a government FOR THE PEOPLE, OF THE PEOPLE, AND BY THE PEOPLE.
For instance:
Although Democrats control the House by a margin of 231-202, many important pieces of legislation have gone by the wayside and been won by Bush and his minions. Why are these democrats we voted in and trusted to vote the will of their constituents NOT doing so?
Well, let's back up just a bit, OK? While many Dems do generally voice and vote their constitutents' collective will, there remain a certain number, sometimes referred to as "Bush Democrats," who consistently vote AGAINST the will of their state's district. These, it would seem, choose to vote someone else's opinions (Bush's for instance!) and forget that it is we--the voters--who put them in office in the first place!
Since this is the case, it's not hard to understand that it is time to vote the idiots OUT and put in some fresh blood in who (might) actually do what we, the American Voters, tell them to do.
And if they don't, they can be voted out NEXT time. Sooner or later, we're bound to get it right!
Other blogs, organizations and government websites have done an admirable job detailing representative's votes on the issues. I STRONGLY encourage you to check them out on the link side-bar on the right side of this page entitled: BE AN INFORMED VOTER--KNOW THE CANDIDATES.
For those of you, however, for whom just surfing a few of those websites gives you a headache, we here at Ovine Detox will attempt at all times to make the issues easily and blaringly and simply clear. Therefore, we've done some of the homework for you and have, for your purusal, taken a look at two of the most recent pieces of legislation that have gone through the House to give you a pretty good idea of who those "Bush Democrats" actually are. (As always, feel free not to take our word for anything! We love it when you don't! By all means, do the research yourself and make up your own mind. If you're a progressive or even moderate Democrat, however, you'll probably come to the conclusions we have.)
So..onto our research.
The two important bills I've mentioned below came up for vote this month in the House. In each case, the Republican's positions and approaches won out in the end because of the Bush-Democrats' throwing away their votes for them.
The first bill was H R 2642/BILL TITLE: Military Construction and Veterans Affairs and Related Agencies
This appropriations Act provides Bush with $163 Billion in funds to continue the Iraq war with nearly no checks and balances on his power to wage and continue the war..
The second bill was H R 6304 2008/BILL TITLE: FISA Amendments Act of 2008
Protects the President and telecoms from responsibility for wiretapping even before 9-11 and on into the future. (In other words, there is NO legislation stopping the unlawful spying on American Citizens. This vote alone totally violates the 4th amendment )
Those democrats listed below in red voted for both HR 2642 and H R 6304 and helped the Republicans pass their unwanted legislation. Those listed in black voted only for the War Funding Bill. All names listed are democrats who have voted their own will (or the President's or their Lobbyist's wills) as opposed to the will of their states.

The effects of the Bush-Democrats can be countered the most easily by voting out those who have refused to vote for the voice of their constituency--the democrats of America. (It can also be overcome by voting in more progressive democrats to replace republican seats, but I believe it's time our representatives begin to feel the wrath of the American People.) If they don't vote OUR WILL, they lose their seat. Period. This will send a very clear message to future representatives regarding where their loyalties must lie if they wish to remain seated.
There is one caveat when choosing to vote against a current democratic house member--it is important that a viable, progressive democrat be prepared to replace the Bushie. In states that are predominantly Republican, notably Idaho, Texas, Oklahoma, Arizona, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, Wyoming, Utah, Tennessee, Kentucky and Alabama, and to a lesser degree South Carolina, West Virginia, Indiana, Mississippi, Arkansas, Lousiana and North Dakota, the danger is that Dems might actually lose a seat in the House to a Republican. Other states that should be conscious of this issue are Georgia, North Carolina, Nevada and Florida, but since they are either barely GOP or evenly tied (Florida) it's of less importance than in the formerly named states, but still something to remain aware of so KNOW who's running and what their positions are.
It is imperative to note that ALL of these traitors will be up for reelection in November 2008. So GET OUT THERE…..let's vote the bastards out of office! If you're not quite sure what voting district you're in, check here: http://www.nationalatlas.gov/printable/congress.html
Just click on your state for a nice, simple map of your state's congressional districts and find what district you vote in. Compare that to our handy-dandy little list of names above, and make sure your vote counts in November.
