I came here last night for Carol's birthday and had myself a funky good time.  While I could have done without the 80's music playing at first, things picked up when we went to hear the band in another of the rooms.  Since I was hanging out with friends, I didn't really check the crowd out much, but it seemed everyone was having a good time and that is what counts.  I also think my drink was a bit overpriced ($10 for a whiskey and diet), but they did treat the birthday girl and the rest of us quite well.
I would be curious to see what it is like on a normal night, and I also would want to check out the rooms downstairs when they are busy.

I thought this place had been here forever, and was all "how did I miss this?" From the incredibly accurate 70's decor, and logo, to the fabulousness of the band playing the Wednesday night that I went - this place is great! I also liked it that I WASN'T the oldest person there, not by a long shot. Kind of a high percentage of super old creepymen, but for the most part, the crowd was friendly.

Everyone in OUR group, of course, was delish, and fun to flirt with.

The Joynt is for you if: you enjoyed Jilly's in the "old" days before it was a charicature of it's old self; if you liked hanging at Alexander's until the wee  - hell, beginning in the wee hours; if you liked the mood at Eli's, if you can admit to anyone that you enjoyed Faces now and then, if you ever hung at the Pump Room to hear Stanley Paul and then Ike Cole play piano, it you were ever inside much less even remember Mr. Kelly's, and if you don't mind a humble guy in the bathroom squeezing soap for you and handing you a hand towel for a tip, then the Joynt will bring back memories and make you feel just plain good. There is just a little something in the air in this new "how we made this bar look and feel like it's been here forever" place, right down to the kooky, swirly 70's-esque carpeting in the entry bar.

Clearly the owners of the Joynt know what they are doing, including booking husky-wailing blues queen Shirley King (yes, daughter of B.B.) on Wednesday nights in their very intimate lounge. How do you know if your dead? If you can remain in the same room with Shirley King and not be moved to get off your ass and dance! WOW!!!

Only small nits and picks that are a hold-back on a fifth star: To me, $9 well drinks are an insult (I was glad I was here for a party that was otherwise generously served plenty of liquor); they were a little abrupt when the lights went on and management wanted to clear the house; and maybe they can have better slut filters. There are enough monied 50 and 60 somethings who hang here that it naturally attracts some slimey broads. An impossibly drunk one approached me and another guy, grabbed our stuff and stuck her lips out for a kiss. YUCK "What's wrong, hun, don't like me any more?," she asked. "I haven't liked you yet!!!" They finally threw her out, but she was a pretty gross momentary buzz kill and was allowed to remain here annoying everyone long after she had already overstayed her welcome.

All around fun; a nice buzz in an old school bar scene, and awesome, first class music.

Ended up at this place after our initial plan didn't work out. It looks nice in here and it wasn't too crowded but just enough people to where it didn't feel to overcrowded. I think the dance floor in the basement is kind of odd..maybe because there just happened to be a weird group dominating the floor with weird dance moves. The drinks can be kind of pricey but not too over the top. My friend asked for Shiraz and the guy brought something else without telling her. She figured it out and then he explained that it was a different kind but they call it Shiraz....what?
My friends and I sat at the bar in in the upstairs part and I must say it was "old guy" central. A bunch of old dudes trying to pick up young girls. I heard the same line a ton of times and thankfully before it got too creepy  it was last call. I would go again

I am writing this with a wicked hangover. That means The Joynt did their job. Well.
Everyone in the place was having a great time. It wasn't very busy, so the downstairs bar and party lounge were empty (yes, we had to explore) but they look like really cool areas.
The door guy was a sweetheart, as anyone that puts up with my chiding generally is, and OMIGAWD, Shirley King was amazing!!! Her birthday tribute to Carol was amazing, I think everyone was up shaking their bumpers!!

Where else can you go to one place and visit three distinctly different bars?  Yep.  That's The Joynt.

You enter a rather understated area which seemed like a "typical" club to me. 80's music was thumping away like a wedding reception as you hum along with George Michael songs.  Good drinks and a friendly bartender made this where I spent the first third of my night.

But wait. There's more.

Downstairs is what can only be called a "disco". Is that word still in the lexicon of words?   And imagine this.  I felt right at home with the strobing lights, the Saturday night fever spins, the "oontz, oontz" beat, as my early bar days rushed back with amazing clarity.  The 70's and 80's are alive and well down here!

Where I spent most of my time, though, was in the jazz club section just to the left of the main bar.  Shirley King was crooning to the room and she had us in the palm of her hand (all this on a Wednesday night!)  As I sipped my martini- I could only think that this is what a jazz club should be.

The crowd was different in each of the rooms and on this night- felt a little old (I think we were some of the youngest people in there)  There is a $10 cover charge at the door and if you are driving, the valet at $15 is a bit pricey.

But if you want to relive some of the great cliche bars of your present and past- you can do it all with one stop at the Joynt! Haven't been to a place like this in years. But I had a ball!

I had a good time at this bar. I was here last night for Carol's birthday.  They had a live band in one room, a regular sit down relax bar when you first walk in, and downstairs there is a lounge room full of couches.  I remember thinking how much I wanted to sit down on one of those couches but the room was closed off so I couldn't.  However, much fun was had and there was alot of people dancing and just good fun all around.  I would like to return here.

Great room, Fantastic service & I recommend Wednesday nights for great music by Shirley King.
My first visit to this place lasted about 10 minutes. It was a first date, he was walking me to my car near the place and the host asked us to come in. We walked in to an empty and  very romantic room  with a Jazz trio playing Sinatra. We danced to two songs cheek to cheek, very sweet. The staff was very nice and just Left us alone.
Yes I was smitten! sigh*
My second visit was for Carol's birthday and I had a chance to see another side to this venue. Lively, fun and fabulous with Miss Shirley King on Wednesday night.
We had a super time, Our birthday girl did have special favors , but I have a feeling everyone is treated well here. Drinks are strong and fairly priced for that part of the city.
As for the crowd, we had our own great all natural company, but I would watch out for creepy vibes and silicon filled bodies !
Looking forward to seeing Miss Shirley King again on a Wednesday night at The Joynt.

Here is what I have to say about the Joynt:

I love the guys that own it.  We met many years ago when I worked at the uber cool mega clubs on Fulton Street.  And when I could sneak out we would run away to the Original Jilly's which they launched for a change of scene and to amuse ourselves.  And then go back to work.  And these guys, especially Stan were totally rockstars, and they still are!

In the cut throat world of nightclubs they seemed to take a chapter from the "kindler, gentler book" here and they have a layered formula here-
A little something for everyone.  Piano bar, check, jazzy lounge with awesome entertainment, check. A crisp  well lit kind of quiet lounge area (VIP perhaps, it had a seperate entrance, but they let me in so I wonder!) with nicely upolstered furniture and nicely spaced seating areas, check, a thumpin' dance floor with music I recognized and all the bells and whistles, check (dancing not my thing...sorry).

What this place is is many things to many people.  I took my 20 something hottie neice here and she loved it.  I took my 50 something neighbor too, and she loved it.  If my mom was still alive, I could take her here to hear the crooners while I could still be a part of the action.

The following Stan has is like a who's who of the political, sports and celeb world.  He worked for "Mr.  S (as in Sinatra)" and has cultivated a pretty well rounded repetoire of friends through the years.  I adore him, even if he wouldn't be my rebound guy.

This is not a local pub or dive bar.  Its a place to go when you want to slap on the war paint and be treated with a little respect and no attitude.  Its a place where you can engage in conversation with gentlemen of a certain age or fend off cougars or meet hot young things just visiting.  It is run by really nice people and the staff reflects that.  I was treated warmly and respectfully.  And I wasn't the oldest person in the Joynt.  How refreshing.  But I was probably the poorest because this crowd is definitely money baby.  My business card cache the morning after was literally CEO, President, Partner, Owner, blah blah blah.

If your scene is WP/Bucktown dives-not for you.  If you can appreciate a little sophistication and retro Rat Packish glamour this is it.

You don't have to thank me now. You can thank me later. The Joynt is the new dapper yet understated spot for GROWN UP nightlife in downtown Chicago.

This place is pure swank and circumstance. There are four distinctly different rooms here. When you first walk in you find yourself in the middle of your typical (almost old school) bar scene. Move along...there is more to see.

On the same level, but to the left, check out the piano bar. They will have live music here most nights including an incredible ensemble group on the weekends. This will be a spot you should not to miss.

Head downstairs to pump up the volume. At the bottom of the stairs you will find a reasonably sized dance floor with a DJ spinning easy-to-dance-to music. No bullshit DJs, attitude, or atmosphere here.

The last room I shall call the Chill Out Room. Kick back on the most luscious chairs I have seen in decades. No joke! I would like to know how much they spent on the furniture in this room alone. I bet you this is the mecca for celebs. And you better believe that they will be here!

The gentlemen running this place have experience and longevity. The Joynt will be around for a long time to come. Check it out before the word spreads and it's too late to make nice with the doorman. I will definitely be spending some of my leisure time here. And I do know the doorman. ;)

Always up for trying new places, a group of my girlfriends and I stopped The Joynt on Saturday night. The previous review describing the scene as GROWN UP nightlife is a vast understatement. The average age of party people had to be 60. If older gentlemen with white suits and corny pick up lines, or aggressive cougars is your thing then you'll love it here. For me I was very happy to finish my drink and escape across the street to Kerryman....

This Joynt is sophistication from the outside Hosts and throughout the large cozy niches inside to the guests that linger over friendship and good drinks. The coming of an outside patio is anticipated thanks to the PR servers that made sure everyone was well taken care of.  Bruce made sure that we got a great tour that reflected casual classy fun!  I will save the extra star for the Patio.

I love, love, love this place.  How wonderful to be treated like an appreciated patron by the staff and management....from the people at the door, to security, to the lovely, but warm hearted wait staff, to the fun, handsome bartenders and to the cute security guys and the great management team and even the smiling owner!!  Wow!!  My girlfriends and I hit this place regularly.  The men dress up for a change, thank you,  I love those white suits, hell, any suit over those shirts hanging out with jeans which have become a laughable Chicago guy look (which is fine for a bar).  "Something about a Sharp Dressed Man" and I refuse to go in without a hot little number on myself....it's that kinda place.  You want to look good in there because it is so cool.  The live jazz bands are great, we dance to that and when in the disco mood go to the sub level.  When we want to talk and hang out, we stay at the entry bar where they play "Bring Sexy Back"  and "Four Minutes"  Yay!!  Something for everyone and if you prefer the Kerryman (I do on a Saturday/Sunday afternoon, it's great), then take your blue-jeaned butt there and leave the swank place to us "aggressive cougars" (honey, when you hit forty, ya gotta be aggressive, time is short", it worked for Demi-look what she has!).
