My Favorite Rush songs (tonight)
Current mood: intrigued
Category: intrigued Music

MySpace buddy, Mark, came up with a process to become a CRF (Certified Rush Fan).  He basically wanted a list of your favorite song from each Rush album and the reason it is your favorite.  I found this to be challenging, yet fun

Mark's Original Blog - http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=3859811&blogID=404873808

The answers that have been posted are equally intersting.  I urge you to post your answers to his blog :)

These are my answers:

I will point out that I love all Rush's songs (some more than others).  I chose my favorites based on how they affect me and not for the "umpff" of the music.  The 'musicality' of the song did factor but was not the sole basis for my decision. Hey, it is the mood I am in tonight.

"Rush" (1974) - In the Mood.  Just cause I am allways in the mood.

"Fly by Night" (1975) - Rivendell.  It appeals to my noble sense of Chivalry & Making Memories.  I like the acoustical guitar and of course, my future still looks brighter than my past.

"Caress Of Steel" (1975) - I think I'm Going Bald - I resemble this song :) & The Necromancer.  It is a great tale of good vs. evil and musically
amazing.

"2112" (1976) - Lessons.  Because I teach what I have been taught, and I KNOW. & 2112.  It is THE epic song of the era and my first exposure to Rush

"A Farewell to Kings" (1977) - A Farewell to Kings.  I wonder will they think of us with sadness when these days have passed long ago?

"Hemispheres" (1978) - Circumstances.  I am still searching for the world that ought to be.

"Permanent Waves" (1980) - Every track is awesome, If I have to pick one it would have to be Different Strings.  It helped me to learn recognize to recognize
the differences between the sexes.

"Moving Pictures" (1981) - Camera Eye - Musically and lyrically the song touches my soul.

"Signals" (1982) - Countdown.  It gave me the inspiration to work for NASA.

"Grace Under Pressure" (1984) - The Enemy Within.  This helped me to look within myself and find the determination to recover from a bad time in my life.

"Power Windows" (1985) – Mystic Rhythms. Because mystic rhythms move us all.

"Hold Your Fire" (1987) - Second Nature.  Because it ought to be second nature.

"Presto" (1989) - Available Light.  It is just my favorite

"Roll the Bones" (1991) - Dreamline.  I make star maps of Jupiter for a living.

"Counterparts" (1993) - Double Agent. - My angels and demons are always at war. & Between the Sun and Moon - 'Ahh, yes to yes to ahh, ahh to yes'  There is indeed a fine line between love and illusion.

"Test For Echo" (1996) - Resist. The song gives me chills.

"Vapor Trails" (2002) - Nocturne. Temporary Madness, the morning says the answer is yes. The lyrics paint fantastic, sometimes frightening images.

"Feedback" (2004) - For What It's Worth.  It is a timeless song, just as meaningful today as it was in the 60's (even with the changing times)

"Snakes and Arrows" (2007) - The Larger Bowl. because it was inspired by dysentery dreams & Hope.  Because everyone should have Hope.

Rush question in three parts
Current mood: blessed

To all My Rush friends, I need your help in this Blog. Please post your answer to this mini survey.
-----------
Which Rush show that you have been to is your favorite and why is it your favorite?
------------
I will be going to two Rush concerts this year. My
favorite was the 1988 Hold Your Fire tour in Birmingham, England where they recorded "A Show of Hands".  It is my favorite show because I was fortunate enough to see them outside of my home country. (If you listen to that DVD very, very, very, very carefully you can hear my off key singing coming in from the back of the NEC :~)

Thanks,

Dave

p.s. Part of my personal Rush trivia, I also saw them in Birmingham, Alabama on the same tour.
