John Travolta vs. Dave Golden
Current mood: Triumphant

I got an email from my friend, Bart, about a year-and-a-half ago. He wrote to say that he was looking for pictures from Urban Cowboy and when he ran a Google Image search for "Urban Cowboy" the first picture he saw was mine.

For about a year, that picture was the top result and I'd get random emails every now and then along the lines of, "Hey, I Googled 'Urban Cowboy' and saw your picture! Whoa, dude!"

(In a strange parallel, I got an email one day from a dude in the Netherlands who had discovered my music by Googling "wicked witch of the West socks," which took him to my MySpace page. Thank you Celia, your lovely comment comparing my feet at the Tribeca Rock show to those of the Wicked Witch of the West is responsible for whatever Dutch fanbase I now have!)

But then Travolta fought back with a bombardment of jpeg's. His Urban Cowboy pictures started popping up all over the Internet and although I was still turning up on the front page, I was slipping. I hit Number 12 and stayed there for a while. I figured I wouldn't go any higher, given my formidable foe. I mean, John Travolta vs. Dave Golden? C'mon. He's a team of publicists, a staff of interns and assistants, an army of lawyers... not to mention Isaac Hayes, Tom Cruise and the entire Church of Scientology working for him.
But Wait...
Hold On...

Whoa!

I got another one of those emails today... apparently I've reclaimed the top spot and toppled the tyranny of Travolta. We'll see how long the restoration lasts, but for now let us rejoice like peasants over the corpse of the king!

Other notable returns in the search for "Urban Cowboy" imagery include The Edge (page 2), Keith Urban (page 4), Some Dude in Western Wear Passed Out on a NYC Subway (page 3) and The Naked Cowboy of Times Square (page 2) who serenades passers-by in his tightie-whities no matter what the weather...

David Crosby and Dave Golden

I went to Backstage Commerce today to see the e-store they set up and stumbled upon their Top Selling Artists page.  And I recognized a couple of the folks who made the chart:

#5. David Crosby and CPR
...
#2. Dave Golden

WHAT?!?  Check it out for yourself and check it out quick 'cause who knows how long it'll hold on...

I suspect I have some MySpace friends to thank for this, so I wanted to make sure I took a moment to say:

THANK YOU!

Hope to see you all at the CD Release Party on Friday, March 3rd at the Bowery Poetry Club: a 4-hour musical extravaganza with lots of very talented guests from all over the country...  please come and share in the celebration with me.

Tix are available now.

Speaking of celebrations, I had a great time at Friday night's Fan Appreciation Night and I'm already looking forward to next year's.  Glad you all could make it, too!  (There's no way I could've drunk all that beer m'self!)  Now it's off to do a quick pre-tour run of shows... for those of you in NY, IL, IN and IA, come on out and join me this month:

Wed, 1/18 in Brooklyn, NY @ The Lucky Cat, 8pm
w/ Crystal Dawn Baker
Thu, 1/26 in Bloomington, IN @ Tutto Bene, 7pm
w/ Americana Tonight alum Krista Detor and John Prine alum Jason Wilber
Fri, 1/27 in Bloomington/Normal, IL @ TC Buzz, 8pm
w/ Kara Kulpa and Amy Readhead
Sat, 1/28 in Davenport, IA @ Border's, 8pm
w/ Kara Kulpa

So, I wrote David Crosby and told him that I'd be happy to go on tour with him.  Think he'll write me back?

DEAD LAPTOP --> NEED INFO... PLEASE READ
Current mood: Smiling, Anyway

January 1, 2006, my laptop finally died beyond repair.

I know a lot of people were waiting on replies from me. If you sent me an email (davegolden.com email, not MySpace email) in the past six weeks, then I've lost it. Would you please resend it to me. This was to be my week to sit down and reply to emails!

Thanks guys and gals... See you on the road soon!

(And New Yorkers, make sure you've got Friday, March 3rd on your calendar - How To Breathe CD Release Party at the Bowery Poetry Club.)

If You Skip the Midwest Music Summit, I Will Bludgeon You With My Guitar While You Gently Weep

July 21 - July 23, Indianapolis is where you need to be.

Here's the deal. Whether or not you're coming to MMS this year, you need to come to Indianapolis for that weekend 'cause all I'm sayin' is that I don't want to be chasin' your ass all across the country just to knock you senseless with the neck of my guitar. And so long as you're in Indianapolis, you might as well come to the Midwest Music Summit, right, sport? Right. So here's what's up:

Last year I played at a bunch of music festivals and conferences and gatherlings and whatnot. They were all good and they all aim to showcase the best new artists whom you might not've heard before. At MMS last year, I enjoyed every act I heard. Not a single act who seemed like their label must've strong-armed them onto the bill or anything. Just lots and lots of good new music.

This year, I'll be playing a few shows during MMS. Git on out to Indiana and catch one of 'em, then go listen to as many freakin' shows as you can!

Fri, 7/22, 7pm @ Bourbon St. Distillery

Sat, 7/23, 10am @ Broad Ripple Farmer's Market

Sat, 7/23, 11:15pm @ The Upper Room

Word to Indiana.

MARCH 21, NYC * BOWERY POETRY CLUB * ALL AGES

Hey guys, I usually list shows on my website at www.davegolden.com/shows but I'm really excited about this one and it's an all ages show, so I wanted to put something up on MySpace about it...

Monday, March 21st
8pm - 9:45pm
Bowery Poetry Club
$6
www.bowerypoetry.com

I'll be playing with Friends Band, a group of Mountain Music guys who I've been seeing play out in Brooklyn. They're a blast! We'll do some songs together, we'll each do some songs, I may have some other special guests, as well. This will be a homecoming of sorts for me - after a month of recording, my first time back on stage. And it's in a gorgeous small theater with great sound! It'll be an all acoustic night and very intimate and I'd love to see you friends there.

Here's a Friends Band song http://www.greyeye.com/FriendsAmsterdam.mp3

So please come join me for this night!

Pirate Jokes

So anyone who's been to one of our shows knows what I do when we have a technical glitch... Tell bad pirate jokes! And having this picture of the hanging microphone covered with an argyle sock kinda reminds me:

What kind of socks does a pirate wear? (scroll down for answer)

ARRRRRRRRRRRGYLE!

How does a pirate get from New York to Boston? (scroll down for answer)

BY CARRRRRRRRR!

What's a pirate's favorite body part, not including his peg leg, glass eye and hook? (scroll down for answer)

HIS EEEEEEEEEEEEEYYYYYYYYYE!

A pirate walks into a bar with a ship's steering wheel in his pants. Spokes are jutting out in every which direction and the bartender gives him this look as if to say "wtf, mate?" Pirate just shakes his head and says... (scroll down for answer)

IT'S DRIVIN' ME NUTS!
