SOHO Gig Cancelled

I'm afraid I'm having to cancel my gig at the SOHO Review bar tomorrow evening (13/5/08).

Apologies for the short notice to anyone who was heading along, but I have other writing commitments that have taken priority this week.
My next gig at the Troubadour will definitely be going ahead as planned with more to follow.

Sorry!

New Gigs

Happy Monday to you all.

My good friend Chris Townsend called me last week and asked if I'd support him at his Gardening Club gig on 30th April. I thought, why not. Then I thought, fuck it, apart from regal rooms last month I haven't played in ages. So I've decided to take a week or so off my writing day job and play a bunch of gigs in London. Now before people start emailing me moaning that I always play in London, I have to as I only have a weeks window before I'm back writing, ok? OK?

I shall be playing most (if not all) of these gigs with young singer/songwriter David Gibson. If you haven't heard him yet he's in my top mates. He's awesome. I'll also be joined at various points by my old touring buddy Jake Hook. (and obviously Dave Mullins on guitar, but that goes without saying)

So basically, I've got about 2 weeks to write some new material for myself. I'm thinking 4 new songs would be a nice number for me to then forget every single lyric.

I'm not sure when I'll be playing again after these, so I'm going to make them count... it'll be a very drunken week.

Now shoo, before I alert my local police to the hobos hanging round my page.

Back to Gigs

Hello wandering gypsy.

I am playing a gig at the Regal Room in Hammersmith on Friday the 28th March. My new writing buddy and incredibly talented performer Dave Gibson shall also be performing. There will also be some special guests.

It'll be the first gig in a few months, what with the broken wrist and all, so should be a good laugh to get back on stage. You can all play "count the mistakes" as I fumble my way through Lady Lullaby. No I'm only kidding. But seriously though, I'm not.

It's been a bit of a hectic time for Jay and myself recently. I don't think we've ever had so much work going on at the same time, but it's been great. There are 3 new Dave Gibson songs very nearly finished, and I think we have the beginnings of a very exciting album.

Anyway, finish your drink, we're closed.

Dave Gibson

Hello kindly wench.

Please take 5 mins to listen to David Gibson in my top mates. I have co-written a couple songs with him ("Save Me" and "Tin Bird" on his page) and he is destined for very big things. We are now working on his debut album and we shall be gracing London with gigs very soon.

CHECK HIM OUT.

Jules Perretta and I went out for a few pints the other night. He then changed my myspace profile to "David Sneddon's Balls" for about 24 hours. I was going to leave it like that until I got more hits than I've ever had. It disturbed me that people might be googling that phrase.

I am very busy at the moment. It seems I always say that... but its the truth. If you don't believe me, why not come round with me for a day and see what I actually do? Eh? EH?!
No just kidding. We'd probably just go to the zoo and stuff.

My broken wrist is gradually on the mend. I'm playing piano again but not for very long periods as it gets sore. I've discovered playing "I don't like Mondays" is ok, but "Bohemian Rhapsody" is too long. I wonder if Amy Winehouse is in this much pain... you know... emotionally.

So, in conclusion, Dave Gibson is sensational. Check him out.

A Broken Wrist

Why is it when you have a broken wrist every person who thinks that they are funny makes a comment about playing with yourself?! (I admit it, if it was one of my mates I'd do it to... make a comment that is, not play with myself. That would be a weird fetish)

IT HAS BEEN A BLOODY PAIN IN THE ARSE. There is nothing more annoying than having a shower while standing with one hand in the air and wrapped in cling film like a serial killer. I broke my ankle in 2006 (before that I'd never broken a bone. Perhaps I am developing brittle bone syndrome?) and the wrist is much more irritating. I've had quite a lot to do this month with writing for other artists (currently working on the new Nate James album- it's going to be awesome, his best work yet. Look out for him on Jools Holland in Feb performing songs from his 2nd album) and playing piano has been... well... I want to say poor but it quite often is anyway... I'll say even more poor. I'm recording in bits and pieces. It is truly an arse.

BUT REJOICE LIKE A BORN AGAIN CHRISTIAN WHO HAS JUST FOUND A WEEPING JESUS IN A SOUTH AMERICAN CHAPEL! My cast comes off next Thursday! That's one week from today. SEVEN weeks in total. It smells like beer (and not because I've spilled any on it. I think it's just starting to brew its own).

I know you're not all football fans (and any Celtic fans will smile if they read this!) but Alan Hutton has left Rangers and moved to Spurs. Am gutted. Will wear black today.

BOYCOTT SHELL!
They have made profits of £13.9 billion (nearly £1.6 million an hour). Bloody disgrace we're paying so much for petrol. They hold us to ransom because they know we need it. They claim problems in Russia and Nigeria mean the industry is fraught with production dangers. Fair enough, but I wonder if the executives at Shell (who've never set foot in Nigeria) have received any bonuses for these profits? OF COURSE THEY HAVE!

That's all for today.

Go and work you lazy ba$^@*d$

The Martians

Why good evening lonely traveler.

You have wandered far to reach these far flung shores of cyber space so gather round and I will tell you a tale. A tale of tale like wonder. A wonderful tale you could say. A taley wonderfully storilly tale. Just making up words now.

My good friend John Kielty and his brothers recently penned a new musical called "Sundowe" which won the Highland quest musical competition. I had the pleasure of witnessing this comedy feast last weekend and it's bloody good. They've had many satisfyingly pompous reviews from musical lovers who don't get it... which makes me smile.

It's fekin brilliant. If you like a laugh then get yourself up to see it. I've a pretty strong feeling it could go on to be a cult hit if they take it to the big citys, and it's worth it just for the virgin song (nothing to do with Richard Branson).

Check out the Martian page in my top friends.

Is anyone else getting shit loads of spam messages? It's doing my nut in. I've started to block people who send them. It'd be good if you could do that in real life, like in the middle of an annoying conversation... BLOCK! Sounds like you should use an elbow or fore-arm, or your imaginative imagination.

BE GONE.

Julian Perretta Gig

Haven't written anything for a while. Basically because I was far too busy to write down any thoughts. I don't have many thoughts anyway. And the ones I do have are mainly to plan escape routes should I ever be attacked by a lion.

Scotland win everything

So...

Georgia probably deserve to win the world cup (not just at football, at everything. is there a world cup for things beginning with G?)

As much as I love my football team, we weren't very good last night. But I think we'll still qualify. Italy are rubbish. (If enough people believe it, it's true)

Has anyone heard of Face book? Or Beebo? These things sound like diseases.
"I've got a beebo on my face book." See?

I dislike things I don't understand, but I think that is a British trait so perhaps I am a patriot.

Someone offered me a real job as an actor this week on TV. I can't even begin to think about giving up my work as a writer. I love music more than animal science. (Oh now come on! Before you start to write to me complaining about animal testing, I'm not talking about that! I'm talking about the kind of animal testing that cross breeds animals of any species with robots... and then puts make up on them. OK?!)

However, I did go to youth theatre with James McAvoy so perhaps I could act for a living? If I tell enough people I'm an actor then it's fact. For example, Nick Cave tells people he's a singer. And he's awful. (But an excellent screen writer)

Anyway, go hang out with friends and live a good life.

John Mayer at the Albert Hall.

I went to see John Mayer last night playing at the Albert Hall.
I think Winston Churchill said it best when he said..."Fuck me, wish I could play guitar like that." IT WAS AWESOME!

Support was provided by Newton Faulkner. This was the first time I'd really heard him apart from on the radio and have to say again, HE WAS AWESOME! Apart from the fact his skill as a guitarist is clearly top notch, his songs really surprised me. With no band to support his acoustic you'd think it might get a bit samey, but he mixed his set up nicely with very funny chat and audience interaction, a skill that not many of our current so called music superstars could master. If you haven't heard much about him, go see him live. Even if you don't like acoustic rock, you'll appreciate his definite skill with a guitar.

Now onto Mayer. Brilliant. I mean, close to perfection. In fact, the only reason it wasn't perfect was that he didn't play Stop This Train, which is my favourite song on Continuum. (apparently he did the night before). John Mayer has mastered the art of the guitar solo (which I love) and puts one in almost every song. But when you can play like that, who the fuck cares?! His voice was as good as the record (how often can you say that?) his songs are well written, his band are awesome, and again I mention how skilled he is on guitar because it's my blog and I can say what I like.

"Sex pest" See? Anything I like.

If you haven't really heard much of John Mayer it's because this country can be musically stupid at times, and we haven't really picked up on him as much as we should. But I urge you to seek him out (albums or gigs) because he's becoming one of my heros and I don't want you to feel left out when I write things like this:

Do you know who John Mayer is?

Good times.

Dave.

Julian Perretta

Hello all.

It's my birthday and I appear to have become white trash. It's only 11am and I'm already on the beer, wearing a football top and waiting for the sport to begin. Getting old disgracefully seems to be my intent.

Please check out Mr. Julian Perretta in my top mates. I've been working on a few songs for his debut album and he's put a song on today that is one of my favourites. It's called "Words To Love Me" and his vocals are fantastic on it.
He's also a fantastic dancer, his particular favourite being Vogue by Madonna.

Anyway, I've got to make a huge hangover for tomorrow morning so better get on it.

Dave.
