Democrat or Republican, which best fits you???

I came upon several web sites when searching for the differences between democrats and republicans, which have the same definitions. Read below and find out who you truly are...a Democrat or Republican.

Which Do You Believe...

Republicans Believe that the United States were founded on the fundamental principle that individuals have certain rights and freedoms which cannot be infringed upon and may be restricted only to the degree necessary to preserve the rights of others.

Democrats Believe that our Founding Fathers did not really mean what they said when they guaranteed certain constitutional rights such as the right to freedom of religious expression, the right to keep and bear arms, and the right to retain the use of private property.

Republicans Believe the money you earn is yours and that government in a free society has the right to take only as much as is needed to perform those limited functions, which are appropriate to it.

Democrats Believe government has a right to use your money as it sees fit to redistribute wealth, establish new spending programs in times of budget surpluses, and to return to you only that portion of your money which is politically expedient.

Republicans Believe the traditional family and the values it fosters are the foundation of American society and their preservation is essential to our Nation's continued success.

Democrats Believe American society must redefine its values and the role of the family to fit new lifestyle concepts, which have resulted from the 60's counter-culture movement and an attitude that promotes an abrogation of individual responsibility.

Republicans Believe parents have the right to determine the values with which their children will be raised and to have the widest possible choice among public, private and religious schools and that competition will improve public education.

Democrats Believe the federal government has the right to determine the values which will be taught in public schools and parents' choice of schools must be limited to avoid exposing public schools to competitive forces which would encourage reform and increase accountability.

Republicans Believe that the free enterprise system is the most effective engine of economic progress.

Democrats Believe that government regulation and federal control of economic activity can better distribute wealth and services to the American people.

Republicans Believe high taxes, runaway government spending, and over-regulation of business and farming punish initiative and stifle economic growth.

Democrats Believe penalizing achievement with higher taxes and increased government bureaucracy and spending will not stifle economic growth but instead guarantee prosperity for everyone.

Republicans Believe that with freedom comes responsibility and that individuals must take personal responsibility for their own actions and our criminal justice system must be based on this idea.

Democrats Believe individual behavior, including criminal behavior, can be blamed on "society" and that spending on social welfare programs and improvements in prison living conditions can combat crime.

Republicans Believe that your property is yours and you have the basic right to make use of it without unreasonable government restrictions.
Democrats Believe the government has the right to regulate the use of private property in accordance with narrow special interests without giving just compensation to owners.

Republicans Believe the preservation of our rights and freedoms must be entrusted to a strong national defense and of the ability of the United States to negotiate with other nations from a position of strength.

Democrats Believe we can afford to drastically weaken our military despite the threats present in an unstable, post-Cold War international environment and the United States must subjugate its interests to those of the United Nations.

Republicans Believe it is imperative today to re-affirm the traditional freedoms and values of America to preserve our great Republic.

Democrats Believe that America must adopt a politically correct, multi-cultural set of values which denies common American heritage and will further divide American society.

Republicans Believe there can be differences of opinion and that such differences such result in opponents, not enemies.

Democrats Believe that all whom oppose them are to be treated as enemies.

Republicans Believe that all of America's citizens can enjoy the rights and freedoms of our country without diminishing the rights of others.

Democrats Believe that some must give up a portion of their rights and freedoms that others may enjoy those same rights and freedoms.

Republicans Believe that public servants, particularly those whom we elect to office, must be held accountable to the highest standards of ethical conduct. "If a man cannot be trusted with the government of himself, can he be trusted with the government of others?" [Thomas Jefferson]

Democrats Believe that loyalty to a discredited leader is a virtue and if other office holders have committed indiscretions, a sitting office holder should not be criticized for failing to uphold the highest standards of ethical conduct.

My most recent Record Eagle Opinion on Boaters
Current mood: cynical

(Title) "Boaters, Beach Goers, and City Officials Should all be Thankful for the Beauty of the Bay." My uncle recently wrote a book about the history of Grand Traverse's past. As I sat on my boat reading his book, I was awestruck to learn that our beautiful clean water located on West Grand Traverse Bay was once contaminated with raw sewage and garbage until the state stepped in to force the clean up of the water and beach in 1931 by suing the City of Traverse City, which required them to clean up the Boardman River. The Boardman River acted as the overflow of sewage through pipes into the pristine clear water of the Bay we all enjoy today. The first attempt to clean the filth from the bay was in 1895, which the City found to costly to pursue. Finally the City was forced to pursue constructing a water sewage treatment plant. We live in what I consider the most beautiful area in the Nation. Clean, crisp water and beautiful beaches. We are fortunate as beach goers and boaters to have the ability to enjoy the clean water and beaches we have today. Our ancestors just generations before us could not even walk the beaches or swim in the water of West Grand Traverse Bay. I can't begin to understand why the City of Traverse City would want to step back into history and deny boaters the freedom to enjoy the water and recreation just as the beach goers do. After reading this book my uncle wrote, I will never again take for granted the fact that I can sit on my boat, look around me in a 350* angle and be thankful for the splendor and the beauty I see around me. Shame on the City of Traverse City for trying to take that away from many members of the community.

He’s a great kid

My daughter has been dating a boy for about 9 months now. I knew him for a couple years before they began dating. Always polite and respectful. We had my daughters graduation party yesterday and this morning I finally had a chance to read all the wonderful cards she received from friends and family. I came to the one her boyfriend and mom gave Nicole. Andrew in his own words wrote "With deepest respect and love, Andrew" That tells you a lot about this boy. I believe he truly cares for Nicole for who she is and thats it. No expectations of anything more. We couldn't ask for a kinder boyfriend for Nicole. Bless you Andrew. Dawn

What a month...
Current mood: intense

My life has changed so much in one month I am spinning. I was laid off, my daughter turned 18, went on her first car date the same day she drove a car the first time by herself, and now she graduated from High School last Saturday. And I just signed my 15 year old son up for driver's ed, and he went to his first formal dance. Yikes. Dawn

Man my house is clean
Current mood: accomplished

Ok, being layed off...has made me bored.  I have cleaned just about everything in my house today, windows, floors, dusted everything imaginable, bathrooms, outside, laundry, light fixtures, sinks, countertops...you get the picture.  Funny how when you are working, you wish you had all this time off.  It has only been 5 days.  Oh, yesterday it was gardening for 5 hours.  Dawn

Yikes, I have been laid off
Current mood: hopeful

Well...it came as a shock to my co-workers and I on Tuesday when we found out that we were all laid off from your positions at a wireless telecommunications site acquisition company.  I was a leasing specialist/paralegal, drafting telecom leases and enjoyed working with associates in big companies such as Sprint, American Tower, AT&T and T-Mobile, to name a few.  I am now just one of the employees in the State of Good Ole Michigan who is now an unemployment statistic.  I gained a lot of experience in the telecom world and will greatly miss it as there are really no other opportunities available in Northern Michigan for this type of work.  Last thing I really want to do is get back into working in a law office as a Paralegal.  Who knows what lies ahead for me right now, but I am thinking about getting back into the oil and gas business.  Dawn

Drummond Island
Current mood: giddy

We had a blast in Drummond Island with our friend Jack and Jessica and Jack’s brother Jason and his wife Tammy.  On Friday we arrived to our cabin on Caribou Lake in Detour, Michigan.  It was a rustic cabin but had all the amenities we needed, full kitchen, 2 bedrooms, living room and dining room.  The lake was at our back door.  Beautiful even though it was frozen over.  We partied until 3:30 or so the first night we were there.  Yes...Joe was the first, as usual, to fall asleep.  Jessica thought it would be funny to write "Skidoo" across Joe’s forhead with her eyeliner and I didn’t protect him this time, lol.  On Saturday morning Joe cooked a great egg and muffin sandwich and we took off to the ferry for Drummond Island.  Guess what.  You know that lake behind us?  The one I said there is no way I would go over on a snowmobile?  Well...I had no friggen choice.  We had to cross it to get to the ferry ride, which means I had to cross it again later to get back to the cabin.  I freaked.  I went faster on that snowmobile than I ever have (about 78 mph) and didn’t stop until I was on the other side.

Drummond Island was absolutely beautiful.  Fresh snow from Friday was on the trees and the whole island was peaceful.  We at lunch at a rest. there on the island and they had the best iced tea I have ever drank.

Which way do we go?  Canada, Maxton or Jamestown?

Drummond Island

Joe and I are going to Drummond Island this weekend with our friends Jack and Jessica.  We are staying on Caribou Lake in Cabins and snowmobiling on the Island on Saturday.  You all know me.  Up until 2 years ago I was not going near a damn snowmobile, yet even think about traveling on a boat in the winter to a damn island to do it.  Joe an avid snowmobiler for more than a decade finally gets me on one and sure as shit, I love it.  I am so excited about going on this trip.  I will not, however, travel across the ice from the island to Canada.  Not even for 500,000,000.00 dollars.  I draw the line at traveling on ice because I am so fearful of drowning.  Yes drowning, but I would live on a boat.  :)  Dawn  P.S. Pics will surely follow in another blog.
