Elvis Presley

Hey guys!
My break from MySpace is finally over, maybe.  Let me tell y'all that back in Christmas I discovered the music and amazing voice of Elvis Presley. Out of curiosity I bought one of his Christmas CD and I gave in. His voice seduced me and I couldn't stop wanting more and more and more. By March of this year, I was a big fan! I listened to his 1 30 hits for many days and weeks to come. When I learned all the songs, I went back for more and more and more. My love for his music and voice kept growing so I decided to check out one of his DVDs, and once again I wanted more and more and more. And, there is so much to choose from. Watching the DVDs and reading about Elvis, I discovered the many talents he had. There was the dancing of course, the acting, but more than anything I believe he had the talent to perform and sing, really sing and knock out any song and blow away an audience, a worldwide audience. There is no doubt in my mind that Elvis is the KING, not just of Rock-n-Roll, but the KING of music of our modern times. It saddens me that we lost him at only 42 years of age – because I am sure he would have given us much more music. He did it all -- all genres of music -- and I believe that is the "secret" of his success. Elvis also stayed true to what he did best -- sing, dance, produce his own music, oh and love his fans.

I had the privilege to visit Graceland this past weekend, and it was breathtaking. It was the most bittersweet experience in my life. I experienced first hand his success story, but also his tragic death. Only God knows why he had to go under those circumstances. I truly and whole-heartily believe Elvis was a good person who never betrayed his faith and stayed true to God. Sure, he made mistakes but at some point I believe he was redeemed.

So, excuse me if I come on too strong as an Elvis fan. It is not going away soon; it is not going away ever. haha!

"Before Elvis…there was nothing."  John Lennon

"Before anybody did anything, Elvis did everything."

"I don't sound like nobody." Elvis Presley

P.S. Check out my pictures and read my comments. And, feel free to add your comments.

P.S. 2: I might also be going through a 50s phase, cause I'm totally into "I Love Lucy" right now.

Hola amigos!

Away -- alejada
Current mood: accomplished

Guys,
I am just letting you know that I will be staying away from my space for a while. NO, I'm not closing my account or anything. Just that life is getting busy (and exciting) for me right now and that's where most of my energy will go to. I will probably check mySpace once or twice a week, but no longer will I be here everyday, two times a day. haha! BUT, if there are outstanding Jaci news or baby news or whatnot, please email me at debymar@yahoo.com

Chicos,

Luego platicamos!!!!

I adore you, guys! (no a todos, pero casi!) jajaja!!!

Mi Abuelita
Current mood: satisfied

Hola Amigos!

Bendiciones!

Con amor, Deby

American Idol 7

So, this is by far the least talented group I have seen. Ryan was getting on my nerves last week when he repeated the phrase "the most talented so far" -- because overall they aren't. However, they do have one of the most talented guys they've had in a long time. Not only does he have a killer voice, he's cute, humble, and smart. No shock y'all, his name is David Archuleta. I've been a fan since day ONE, when he did that John Mayer song.

With me, every year is the same story. I usually like three girls at the beginning and can't decide who to vote for, though, I've never actually voted. But, this year the table has turned and I'm all about David. I'm so into him that I've actually started voting. I love this kid! AND, he's half Hispanic!!

Support David Archuleta!!! Move on, Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson!

Perhaps too soon to make predictions, but I can't help but want this boy to win the whole thing and become America's biggest superstar. =D

2008 Resolutions -- Propositos para el 2008

WOW -- It's already the 6th of January 2008!

2007 was one of the best years in my life! I graduated from college, got the best job in the world, and many other random exciting things happened. I just read my 2007 resolutions and I'm a little dissapointed, but not all the way. I learned to keep my resolution list short and it worked much better than other years. I certaintly had fun, lost some weight, read for fun and self-improvement, but I didn't shop less, didn't save more, and didn't go to church EVERY Sunday. Well, those are the things that I want to continue to work on during 2008. Here are my goals for this year. Please help me be accountable, especially if you are a good friend of mine.

1. Become a member of a church -- Maybe that was what I did wrong last year. I just wanted to go to church EVERY Sunday, but that is really not the most important thing about church attendance. I have come to realize that a membership to a church is essential go spiritual growth. I have found a church I really like and I'm about to integrate into some of their weekdays activities. So, though I might not be able to go to church EVERY Sunday this year, I plan to take church attendance to the next level by becoming an active member of a church.

2. Continue to lose weight and stay fit -- It's not just about losing weight. It's about being healthy and shaping God's Temple.  I have never felt better about myself physically since I've stayed active. I still need to work on eating better, perhaps learning to cook, but for now I'm happy to have joined a Fitness Fellowship at the church I'm attending. I only lost  10 lbs. last year, but I already feel lighter, fitter, healthier, and happier.

3. Shop less, travel more -- Well, well, well...it seems like saving is not an option for me. haha...just kidding. But yeah...I would like to "save" my money and "invest" it on trips. I definitely have more time to travel now, so during the weekends I would like to take short trips here and there. I have friends in Houston (hint: Martha, Lili, Sophy), family in San Antonio, friends in Arkansas, and there are lots of places that shouldn't require me to take days off work, just the weekend.  But of course, there is also my huge Jaci SA family all over the country -- here I go Califas!

4. Be a better Christian, teacher, friend, wife, daughter, sister, person -- Just improve in everything. Always strive for the best, and if I fail not give up, just try again.

5. Start making plans for the future -- Master's Degree (where, when, why?), new home, mmmm...perhaps start giving the idea of a baby a chance.

I love you, guys!

Thanks for reading, and please help me stay pumped about these goals.

The Chronicles of Narnia vs. Harry Potter

Disclaimer: The reason for this blog is to jot down some of my thoughts about two series of books that I have read and enjoyed. The following comments are merely my opinion and may or may not reflect who I am personally.

Similarities:

1. The Chronicles of Narnia and the Harry Potter series are made up of seven books.

2. My favorite books off both series are the third books: The Horse and His Boy and Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban. Just a coincidence, I'm sure.

3. Both series are or have been controversial.

4. Both series have a central character: Aslan and Harry Potter.

5. The heroes of the stories are children/teenagers.

6. The series' genres are fantasy.

7. Both series mention Christmas…a little thing I noticed. =D

8. There are movies based on the books.

9. I believe both series are a metaphor to Christianity.

10. Both series have witches.

Differences:

1. The Chronicles of Narnia were written by a man, C.S. Lewis, and the Harry Potter books were written by a woman, J.K. Rowling.

2. Throughout the Harry Potter books the evil is within Voldemort and the evil in Narnia comes from different characters/situations.

3. The Chronicles of Narnia has sold 100 million copies in 41 languages, while the Harry Potter books have sold 400 million in 65 languages!

4. On average, a Narnia book is 220 pages long and a Harry Potter book is 586!

5. Narnia books have more illustrations than Harry Potter's.

6. Harry Potter books have more sense of humor than Narnia.

7. While both books are violent at some point, Harry Potter books become darker by the end of the series, and Narnia keeps the violence milder throughout the seven books.

8. The Harry Potter books make it easy keeping an account of the age of the characters, because of the format of the books: 7 books = 7 years – In Narnia time is different, it was always hard trying to figure out their ages/time.

Ok, I might keep adding more. I'm sleepy and my brain is about to shut down. Comment if you please.

Jaci Velasquez, Ron Clark, and Mandy Moore
Category: Life

Hey my friends!
What's up? I hope you're as joyful as I am.

What do Jaci, Ron, and Mandy have in common? Two things: 1. They all are people that I admire and 2. keep reading to find out.

As most of you know, I was blessed to see Jaci Velasquez in Houston last week. She is about six months pregnant, and looks happier than ever. I officially met her husband Nic and some of the guys of Salvador. Another wonderful thing about this concert was that I got to see lots of friends and my dear cousin Lili! I had a blast! We got back home at 3:30 a.m., and that was my last day of the summer vacation. So, I partied even the night before I started to work! heehee...

Today, was my first official day at my school district. We had a wonderful convocation ceremony. Ron Clark was the keynote speaker. Oh my gosh! He blew me away and I'm such a fan! He inspired me to be a better teacher than I ever thought I wanted to be. I thank God for him, because he will influence my career forever. To find out more about him visit his website at www.ronclark.info . He is known as "America's Educator" and he inspired the movie "The Ron Clark Story" starring Matthew Perry.

And guess what?

I will finally get to see Mandy Moore!!!! She will be in the DFW area this month! I will let you know all about it once I've seen her. I hope she's just as wonderful in person as she is in her movies. j/k! I hope she's better than that.

What's the other thing these guys have in common?

Me divertí muchísimo.
