Was talking to Reece Fuller this morning at work band names,etc. Got on the subject of the name Santeria and how there are like 15 or so bands around the world using the name. That got me on to the subject of how Primo, a few months ago sent a faux-formal email to a bunch of these "Santeria" bands Asking them to pretty much "cease & desist" using the name. Right? Most of them were cool...as in, "We broke up already." But one email from a Santeria in El Salvador is hilarious. These dudes were pissed that us Honkys + 1 Indian Would dare try to steal their culture and name. Here's the email from them...it's hilarious...and awesome...

Louisiana Press Awards: "Slipping Thru the Cracks: A Week on the Streets"

Slipping Thru the Cracks Wins LA Press Award Got cool news last week that I fogot to mention. My June '07 article on Homelessness in Acadiana, "Slipping Through the Cracks: A Week on the Streets," Where I spent a week living with homeless folks & hoboes in Tramp Camps Won a 1st Place in Individual Feature Writing At the April 23 Louisiana Press Awards. I skipped the Awards Ceremony and the Smooze Fest Cuz I was told they were kinda boring. However, Scott Jordan, editor at the Independent Who really helped me shape & edit the piece & made it happen, Was so kind as to pick up my plaque that I won. Kind of cool. I feel sorta silly even mentioning that the article won something But I'm also proud of it, too. Writing and researching that thing was waaaaayy harder than I expected. So I guess it's ok to file this under: "Patting Myself on the Back Dept." It's a nice feeling--to break stereotype--as a rock & roll dude-- And get recognized for something other smashing stuff and pretending Like I'm 19. So yeh, thanks to everybody for supporting my in my little writing stuffs. It's cool. I enjoy doing it as much as music And it's easier on the Hearing Loss.
Cablog News & Status Reports: I know a lot of ya'll subscribe to this blog for the Cablogs And there haven't been many of those as of late On account of the fact that I got a gig doing Music & Events Calendar At the local Weekly here, The Independent (www.theind.com). And I gotta tell you, it's been nice getting up early And sitting in cube for most of the day. Change of pace. I was kind of burnt on some of the cab stuff But there's the possibility I'll have to pull a few shifts in the near future. However, like I said, the break from it has been nice. You know it was tricky, trying to transcend and grow as a semi-conscientious Individual and then find myself having to scream, punch, & kick at people When they got crazy out of line. Some odd contrast to the whole thing. I'm trying to grow and keep moving and changing, etc. Sometimes the cab stuff brought out a darker side of me That I'm not always comfortable with. Regardless, I've still got plans to edit all the Cablogs down Cut the fat and format it into a book. It's coming. I swear...I just dread the thought of having to edit that thing. It's an 800 page Word.doc. When I load it up, I get a queasy feeling and cringe at the amount Of cigarettes I'll probably smoke while editing it. Either way. Shit's coming. Also, got a few record on the way in 08. 08 will be the year of record stuffs. Santeria = 99% done mixing (thanks to Primo & Tony), ready for mastering. BBC = in the mastering stage Dobro Record = Gonna start tracking it soon, where? who knows. Minimal production, gonna keep it dirty and low to the ground. I hate it when blues records sound too fancy...unless it's like Ry Cooder or something.
