deò and Mandy get personal in this episode, reminiscing about what drew them to Paganism.

Also, Heather is back with information about the stone Aventurine and you have a chance to win a Kellianna CD and wands from 2am Altars.
Plus, can you see deò as a Scientologist? Hear the story of how it could have happened.
And finally, what’s the deal with Quantum Mechanics? Does it really do what Oprah says?

New Website and Show in the works

Although it’s been a while since the last show (there’s another one in the works, we promise!), since the last episode we have changed our website. Now, it not only lists the episodes, but also serves as a regular blog. We are also beginning to post videos from around the Interweb that relate to show content. See Kirk Cameron and his friend make fools of themselves trying to argue that God must exist because a banana has a convenient peel tab; See how the outside world looks at Pagan pride days; see the latest outrageous attack on Wiccans by YouTubers; and... Shamanic Cheerleading anyone?

Anyway, keep an eye on the site because it will have more regularly posted content than just the recently few and far between episodes! Don’t want to visit the site on a regular basis? Just subscribe to the RSS feed in Google Reader or your favorite RSS reader.

On the next episode of deo’s Shadow, a physicist writes in about The Secret; Mandy and I discuss what drew us to Paganism; and I challenge the idea of magic in a no-holds-barred tour de force complete with Star Trek puns. Plus we have lots of great prizes to give away! Hand carved wands from 2AM Altars, and CDs from some great new artists!

Stay tuned! We should have it to you by next week (fingers crossed... for good luck).

All the best,
deò

Episode 37- The Secret

Hey Folks!

Episode 37- The Secret : of the free hit pagan podcast Deo's Shadow is now up on www.deos-shadow.com

Wow - it has been a while, but another episode is out!
I loose my "editing Cherry".. wow that sounded a bit more vulgar than intended :)
After a long downtime, and a crazy busy few months we managed to squeak in a bit of time and gather up the old recording we did of "The Secret".  I worked without a net to edit this show together with the sponsors and segments so I will cross my fingers it comes across alright! Now that I crossed that bridge I am hoping I can continue to do the editing of the shows when I get time so that we can put them out more frequently... well more frequently than every 4 months :)

Anyhow.. Here is the run down of the show. Sorry for the downtime - thanks for all the supportive emails!

On this episode, sit down with deò and Mandy to watch the hit movie based on the best-selling book, The Secret. If ever there has been a time to call bullshit, this is it. While deò and Mandy play the devil's advocate and watch the New Age movement come tumbling down, Jax gives us a double-dose of Tarot with the Devil and Tower cards. Also, we give away some CDs to those wonderful listeners who have kept the forums active during our admittedly long hiatus.

A couple special interviews to tie you over

So as a bonus for those who donated to the Thailand temple we went to, we were offering some added special shows. Of course, these have been late too.

Now that I have two of the links up, to part of the special package of shows they are getting - we decided to let some of those listeners who have been supportive to the show by hanging out on the forums and our Facebook/Myspace with these as well. We have up an interview deo did with a German man, who became an ordained monk in the Forest temple in Thailand, as well as a lecture deo gave when we returned on the meditation we learned in Thailand.

So as a thank you to all of you who keep coming out to the forums, and who keep supporting us even though we have taken so long to get the next show out..

Go on to this site, and check them out!

(We will be moving the site later for the other addition of the special episodes for those who contributed.)

Thanks again to everyone for being so patient during this time!

We are back from Thailand!

Well, We are back from Thailand!
3 weeks of meditation with the monks, over 10 hours a day in meditation - one hell of an experience.

We are looking forward to being able to share our experiences and adventure with everyone on the upcoming shows! Being part of another culture so in-depth, with the language barriers and cultural differences was a real eye opener. We were brought out of our comfort zones, made to endure a very intense schedule and face our fears, and ideas of our lives and perspectives in a way we could have never imagined. And it was not until the very end, while deo and I were the last ones remaining that we sat before two of the monks and listened to them speak the lessons we were to know - about our marriage, our lives and way of living that everything came together. So many times we wanted to give up, we struggled and fought with this lifestyle we were trying to grow comfortable with in Thailand. And it wasn't until that moment it all came together, that moment that nearly brought us both the tears when everything we had been working for over that 3 weeks made sense.  I had wanted to get out of there pretty bad at times over those 3 weeks - but it was only when we were driving away from the temple and those monks that I had longed to run back. I felt I could do it all over again, that it really was just beginning.  Don't get me wrong - we have no intention of  becoming a monk and a nun *lol* but it took us those 3 weeks to really only begin to understand this culture and experience.

It was very intense, and the Thai people outside of the tourism and Bangkok blitz are amazing. The Buddhist mindset and culture in actuality is something to awe. We were able to spend a day with a Thai family who taught us to pray, and brought us about a day in the life of regular Thai folk - an experience we will not forget! Being in the North of Thailand, away from the tourist areas allowed us to see the Thai people in all their generosity and mindful ways that really is breathtaking.

For myself, I couldn't have been more amazed by deo. Now yes, this is a mushy wife talking.. but he was amazing - he will most likely want me to not post this part hehehe.
From the moment we arrived in the temples, it was really really tough The conditions he had to sleep in, the work he had to do - all of it. deo grabbed Thailand by the horns and owned it. He learnt far more of the language than myself, he handled all the cultural differences and sticky situations when we were in areas where no westerners went and no English was spoken - he acted the protector in the temples when wild dogs came at us from all directions in the black of the night, and just really pulled through it all. It sounds all mushy, yes I know, but I was able to see him in a light that we'd never been able to achieve here. I always knew he could be a strong man, a protector, but in Thailand he was put into that role. To protect and comfort - and there were many times when we both had a lot of fear and overwhelming feelings. It was awesome - so needless to say, we had a great 4th anniversary.

Side note - Before we left, we posted  #34 - Runes and Dancing Nude but did not let everyone know it was up, as we had a plane to catch. Here are the details, be sure to check it out!

Episode #34 - Runes and Dancing Nude
On this show,  deo and Mandy talk about the fire pit dynamic at festivals - nudity, sexuality, drumming and dancing.
deo is joined by our local rune expert, Mark, to figure out just what these runes things are! deo is wax morbid at the end of the show with a spark of hope.

Events Coming up that we will be at:
SPIRITS OF THE EARTH - July 3-8 Ontario, http://www.spiritsfest.com/
An Evening with Lon Milo DuQuette - August 25, London Ontario, http://www.archallem.org/

Hope everyone had a great 5 weeks, we look forward to sharing the stories with you all! I will post some pics up on here shortly

Thailand Donations

So For those who haven't heard the new show, we wanted to post the details about the Thailand donations.

When we go to the Buddhist temple, we are offing a donation of generosity to the temple. This will help the monks in the survival of their ways - food, shelter, medical supplies and such. It is customary for the monks to perform a blessing ritual to the those who showed their generosity. So with the donations received from the podcast until we leave on May 24th - we will be taking those donations, in your name, to be offered to the monks.

As a special incentive, we will be producing a special Thailand episode of the show, that will be available to only those who have sponsored in this time. This show will be quite long, perhaps in a few chunks, as well as video options. We will be recording as much as we can, talking to who we can and journaling our own experiences, and create a special episode!

For those wanting to sponsor the show, and donate to the temple - you can visit our sponsorship page at http://www.deos-shadow.com/sponsor/thailand.html .

If you have any questions about the temple please let us know at deo@deos-shadow.com
