A real email we received last week. The author's identity has been removed in an attempt to protect the innocent. Did we mention that we love our friends? xo, -DRL
Anyway back to the CD... well…. I've been totally jammin' ever since…so much that today as I was in route to kick some doors in Detroit I was blaring "Revelator" and low and behold, the lights blared behind me. When the officer asked "Hello Miss, do you know why I'm pulling you over?" and I replied…"I believe I was probably speeding sir." He replies…"any particular reason why?" and all I could reply was "it's this dang new Dirt Road Logic CD! I swear I just lose myself and my body speeds up and I can't stop movin" and silly ole me turns it up…uggghhh. He looked at me and said "Okay, drivers license and registration please" as I watched him walk back to his partner to run my information so he could write my ticket…I was so bummin. I started sweating because I just couldn't believe I said that and did that! I'm totally hit! He finally starts to come back to my window and I see his partner get out and they both come to my window. The officer started to handing me back my information and then hesitated and asked "Does this CD have any slow songs?" I replied "uhh, yes sir" completely embarrassed. He smirked and said "how bout you put the slow songs on to help YOU slow down a bit" and smiled at me. I had the deer in the headlights look on my face and his partner chuckles and says "have a great day miss." I replied "Thank you…uhhh Thank you so much" and I could hear them laughing as they walk away and one of them said "How bout that for honesty?" TRUE FRIGGIN STORY!! I couldn't believe it myself so I had to call my mum and well…she thinks I've lost my damn mind…
So there you have it, not only does the GREAT DIRT ROAD LOGIC CD make me shake my ass, but it saved it too!!! So thank you so very much Eric for the CD and please thank the rest of the DRL fellas too. But most of all….THANK YOU SO VERY VERY VERY MUCH FOR MAKIN MUSIC THAT I CAN SHAKE MY ASS TOO!!!
Can't wait to catch you guys on stage again!!

Sirens Of The Ditch
By
Jason Isbell
Release date: 10 July, 2007
So, we had a string of three shows a week ago (7/3 - 7/6) and we wanted to report on some of the lessons that we learned along the way. We hope to make this a (semi?)-regular feature here on MySpace.
These are in no way chronilogical order or in order of importance.
1. Boss stompbox tuners, while serving a wonderful purpose in dark smelly rock clubs or bars, offer no real redeeming value in the blazing hot July Michigan sun. They pretty much turn into a small white box with a couple of randomly moving LED lights.
2. The DRL van, purchased from our brothers in Whitey Morgan, is now confirmed to be good for a 300 mile trip (knock on wood... we're heading to Cincy in about a month)
3. Playing last at the Elbow Room in Ypsilanti can actually mean "headlining the show" and does not automatically mean that you will be playing to 4 drunk dudes, the soundguy, and a pissed off bartender.
4. Drink tokens can, in fact, be redeemed for red bull and not just beer. However, it's not a great idea to drink two of them right before a show.
5. Time warps exist in Grayling, MI. Well, it's either that or every single clock in the city is set to a different time.
6. The jukebox at Smalls Bar in Detroit (in the 'bar room') is so loud that there is no chance to hear the bands performing (in the 'band room') under any circumstances.
7. The best band ideas are had in the van on way to shows and the worst band ideas are had in the van on the way to shows.
8. It's great to have 4 guitars for 2 guitar players... until the lead guitar player breaks a string on 2 of those guitars and the rhythm guitar player breaks a string on 1 of them. At that point, 1 guitar and 2 guitar players doesn't sound like too good of an idea.
9. If you ever hear a song lyric about Paul getting to see boobs because Eric wouldn't sing along to a Prince song playing at the bar... it's a completely made up story and there's no factual evidence to prove that it did or did not happen.
10. A DRL cd can be traded straight-up for a ride in a simulated sky-dive machine.
11. If you have ever seen Trainspotting... remember the part where he finds the worst bathroom in Scotland? We think the Elbow Room men's room stall can compete.
12. Holiday Inns can hide. Especially if you happen to have a face full of tacos after a long day in the sun. They're sneaky and you might just end up driving around for an extra 30 minutes after you passed right by the hidden one.
13. If you're extremely hammered and at Burger King at 3am... do not say you want a 1 combo with a 'Blue Cheesy' to drink if you really wanted 3 Whopper Juniors and an orange soda. You will end up with a 1 combo, a Coke, and a lot of jokes made on your account.
14. One member of our band dreams of siring enough children to form a family band that will tour around the country. The rest of DRL are obviously not invited.
15. Dancing whilst not performing live music, is pretty much forbidden if you are in our band and not named Lucas.
16. Hanging out with Miss Michigan and Miss Teen Michigan is fun. Throwing the shocker when you get photographed with them is 'not' recommended because Miss MI knows what it is and will call you out for it. Eric says miss Michigan looks different from what he remembers.
17. Other bands take special note on this one: Autographing cds after a show (even with Sharpies with shiny silver ink) does not mean that you've "made it". The major record labels are not calling the next day... or even the day after that.
18. A music festival without beer has a very high chance of equaling a music festival without many people there.
We thought that we'd give folks a little bit to chew on while we're taking off some time as DRL proper...
Ypsilanti Vigilante was recorded by Eric (and he played all the instruments), but released under the Dirt Road Logic name for the Ypsisongs Compilation put out by Cerberus Records (check it out in our top friends). If you don't see the song in our music player, try a new browser window. It's there, but your browser is holding a cached version of our player.
Friday, October 27th the Temple Club 500 E Grand River, Lansing MI 48912 doors at 9pm, with special guests: the Deadstring Brothers and introducing: Ransom Colt and the Outlaws (our REALLY good buddies... also known as Jimmy Edwards and his Reluctant Cowboys. Check them out and go add them to your friends!!)
***SPECIAL TICKET OFFER***
So here's the scoop... presale tickets from the Temple Club are $6, but with service charges (when you buy them online) they come out to about $8. Also, tickets are $8 at the door that night... so no matter how you spin it, tickets are $8 for this show. We're gonna give you a great deal because we love you and we want everyone out for this show. If you buy the tickets through us using Paypal, you can get them at the face value of $6. Also, we're offering a ticket / cd package for $14 that saves you $2 on the ticket and $2 on a DRL cd. Please come out to these shows... as they're gonna be our last for a while. We're taking a break to recover, regroup, and start working on a follow-up album to Great Lake Heart Ache.
Paul's wonderful brother, Matthew, is coming home from LA on September 8th. He's an extremely talented film/TV editor/director (his credits include Bridezillas... a #1 show on WE) and he wants to create a Dirt Road Logic video. So... with that said, we're shooting footage for this video at our Intersection show on September 8th (when we open for Bomshel)!! And, if we get enough footage... we're also considering releasing a full length Dirt Road Logic DVD.
What this means:::::
1) We want as many people out for this show as possible... because we love you and we want your lovely faces in our video. 2) We need some friends to help us out!!!
What we need:::::
1) Digital Video Cameras... miniDV format only. 2) Volunteers to film our entire set 3) Help in spreading the word about our plans for this night 4) Ideas... for which song you'd like us to make into a video
What we can offer:::::
1) Free tickets for people willing to film our set.
We're looking for approximately 8-10 people to volunteer. We already have a couple of cameras lined up, but we could use another 6-8 of those also. If you are interested in loaning us a camera or filming for us, please contact us ASAP. Also send us a message telling us which DRL song you'd like to see as a video. You can reply to this blog, send us a message through MySpace, or email Paul at paul@dirtroadlogic.com . We really want to make this a big night... so please forward this information to everyone you know!!!
We just wanted to let everyone know how we're gonna be handling the 'online' availability of tracks from the record... and here it is: Once a track gets to 1000 plays, we'll upload a new track... and very shortly thereafter, remove the track with 1000 plays. It's that simple... keep listening and we'll keep putting up new tracks. Once the whole album has gone through a cycle... maybe we'll take requests or something interesting and interactive like that.
Because we're just announcing this, we'll leave Hard Drinkin' Daddy and Contemporary Souls up for a couple extra days... so buy the album or download them now if you can't bear the thought of a day without listening to those two tracks.
xoxo, -DRL
