The Adolescents, Social Distortion, and DI all have played a part in creating the Southern California/OC punk rock scene and with the release of "On The Western Front," DI's first release in over 10 years, good, solid, punk rock music is coming from my speakers once again. In today's scene that is all over the place ranging from screamo to emo and back around, a band like DI is absolutely necessary right here and now. They are stated as a main influence for bands like Guttermouth, The Offspring, etc… and they waste no time throwing you right into their rockin' brand of punk with the title track complete with quick guitars, sing-a-long, gang styled vocals, and leads that spit out a lyric that has meaning and substance as Casey Royer takes stance on the legal system. For the most part this is the trend that DI carries with them throughout this album. Songs like "Disease" throw a great bass line at the listener, while songs like "Prison Riot" and "Punk Rock Suicide" will have you pumping a fist in the air and chanting along with them. It is so great to hear music like this today that is new and exciting like it was when the band first emerged in the early 80's. Though their sound hasn't changed over the years too much, the scene around them has, and right now is the perfect time to for this album and this band to shake up the current state of the scene.
