Glass half empty but Grateful

Grateful but Dissapointed.....Dissapointed but Surprized....Surprized yet Hopeful.

In the age of cheap abundent energy the glass is now half empty, in the very near future energy will be harder to come by and it will be more and more expensive.

I am Grateful to have been born in the middle of this amazing age, yet very dissapointed in myself and in my fellow mankind for taking it all for granted.  Looking back at the last 33 years of my life, the problems I faced seem so small, even surviving Cancer twice (which I owe to Petro-Chemicals/Products).  Looking back I never knew how Rich I was, how Rich we all were.  I owe my wonderful easy existence to the energy and products of ancient fossil fuels....ancient life... ancient sunlight!  Yet I am Surprized by the comfort I feel.  Not the "I" of the ego (of fear), but the Observing "I" that can observe the Ego of me and of all mankind.  The "I" of all, the one Consciousness.  I take comfort in knowing that we are but one small step in the evolution of the consciousness of the universe.  Our collective Ego is a nessesary step in that evolution....The age of Oil and out of control consumption was nessesary for the evolution of the Ego... as Buddha once said: "Without Illusion (Ego), there could be no Enlightenment".

I believe that the end of the Oil Age, by nessesity, will either destroy our species or bring about the death of the individual and collective Ego that is nessesary for our evolution.

I am hopeful because the end of cheap energy and petro-chemical products that only serve our Ego, will by nessesity downsize our existence and global impact, re-focus our priorities, re-localize our communities and make it very obvious that this easy existence we have enjoyed with all of it's distractions is not our birthright nor the birthright of our children.  It will make Very Clear our basic common link that we are all a part of this small planet,  breathe the same air and we are, as a species, Mortal.
