DJ Ron Update - September 5th
Current mood: excited
Get ready for the Launch! This is such a major weekend, and there is a lot going on.. I hope you are ready for a LOT of fun this weekend. Big weekend at Play. New Website. Extended Radio Show. Swarovski Fashion Show. Guitar Center Instore. Whew- and that's just the summary! By now, you've probably seen the flyers, posters, and press coverage (thank you iOut and MetroMix!) - this weekend at Play, we are bringing Launch 3.0. Thanks to a generous sponsorship from Smack Clothing, there will be three projection screens at Play on Friday and Saturday night bringing a "surround video" feel, making the crowd more immersed in the visual experience. There will be some special giveaways to go with the hot new remix video by Kreesha Turner "Don't Call Me Baby" as well as the energetic onstage antics you would expect from yours truly. In honor of the weekend, watch out for three new videoremixes to Wideboys productions of Michelle WIlliams and Miley Cyrus. So you definitely don't want to miss Launch 3.0 tonight and tomorrow night, 10pm-3am at Play Dance Bar. Get there early, the show starts at 10pm and you won't want to miss a single moment! Those Swarovski crystal-blinged headphones I wear, designed by Jennifer Hayes, have become quite a signature piece for me. So much so that I was invited to spin the Swarovski fashion show at the Green Hills mall on Sunday. With fashions from Burberry and Steven Weitzman, the runway will feature the fall line from Swarovski, sparkling from 6pm-8pm on Sunday night. This is my first time DJing a fashion event, so I am quite excited about it. I will even get a chance to be in a window display - spinning a live preshow midafternoon set! In these eMails, I often mention the great technology I am using - Grand VJ, Cue, Vestax, etc. - and in response I receive a lot of eMails. With stage and DJ booth setups the way they are, it's very rare that I can demonstrate how the equipment works to everyone out there. Next Tuesday, I will be doing an instore performance at Guitar Center which will be a perfect opportunity to see everything up close and personal. The event is a meeting for the local chapter of the American DJ Association and everyone who is interested in DJ and Electronic Music gear should come check it out. The show will be Tuesday night from 6pm-8pm at the 100 Oaks location for all those who are interested. If you want something more immediate to check out - go to www.djron.com! I have been working with webdesigner Tim Toonen and the site has received a much needed reboot. New design, new functionality and more. Check it out and tell me what you think. We will be adding features and content continuously. With all the national attention (DJ Times, Club World, The Grammys) I figured it was time to step up the game and improve all of the aspects of the "DJ Ron brand." Imaging and web presence is quite important and this is the next step of the path. Be sure to tune in Saturday night for an extended radio show on WRVU 91.1 FM! I will be spinning dance music from 4pm-8pm with 91 Out of the Closet from 3pm-4pm. Listen for lots of new music and some fun classics in the mix. Been loading up the hard drive with some long-lost requests that I've received over the past few weeks. If you don't live in Nashville, you can always listen online at www.wrvu.org. There is even more to talk about -- but I've got to save something for next week. So please check out the new website, come to Launch 3.0 at Play, experience the Swarovski fashion show and attend the Guitar Center showcase. As always - your support is always appreciated. Time for upcoming events: Tonight - Friday, September 5th Launch 3.0 at PlayDJ Ron bringing a new immersive video experience. My sister-in-law Annette is walking for Breast Cancer
Dear friends and family, As many of you know I am preparing to do the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer 3 day walk in Washington D.C. on October 3-5. I am going to be walking 60 miles over 3 days and I have committed to raising $2200 for the cause. I REALLY NEED your help to reach this goal.
The walk benefits Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the National Philanthropic Trust Breast Cancer Fund. Every advancement in breast cancer research, treatment, education and prevention in the last 25 years has been touched by a Komen for the Cure grant. They are working hard to build a future without breast cancer, and I plan on raising $2200 to help bring us closer to that goal.
Thank you for taking the time to read this letter, and thank you for your support.
Sincerely, Annette P.S. Don't wait - donate today!
Thanks for your support!

Funny Jokes
Current mood: goofy
1. Seth Gold DJing!
2. The mother of a 17-year-old girl was concerned that her daughter was having sex.
Worried the girl might become pregnant and adversely impact the family's status, she consulted the family doctor.
The doctor told her that teenagers today were very willful and any attempt to stop the girl would probably result in rebellion. He then told her to arrange for her daughter to be put on birth control and until then, talk to her and give her a box of condoms.
Later that evening, as her daughter was preparing for a date, the woman told her about the situation and handed her a box of condoms. The girl burst out laughing and reached over to hug her mother saying:
'Oh Mom! You don't have to worry about that! I'm dating Susan!'

Ok, I get it (warning - angry and vulgar post)
Current mood: justified
We met about seven years ago. I was DJing at eXceSs after Artrageous. You came up and we chatted. I asked you out and we went on a date. You were intelligent, independent, well employed, and funny with southern etiquette - a delightful combination that I was highly attracted to. You came back to my apartment and was horrified - and in no uncertain words told me so. Because of course, the state of my living conditions is a direct reflection of my value as a human being. You didn't want to hang out with me because I was too into "clubland." Fine.
You moved away but would return every couple of months. You would always seem to come to eXceSs - and I would see you with your eyes dilated or your teeth chattering. Hmm. I always loved the black light inside the DJ booth at eXceSs because white powder really glows underneath it .. and you always had glowing rings on your nostrils. You would stop in the booth and say hi, ask me where to buy drugs and I would tell you that I don't do that. Me in my low self esteem phase was still attracted to you and thought you might be interested in dating. What a sick twisted fucking thought that was.
For the past three weeks you've come to Tribe on Wednesday and totally ignored me. I would say hi and talk to the people in your circle and you would not acknowlege me. I reached out to shake your hand and you looked the other way. Yes, you do look ok - but those drugs have left their mark on your face. Not that I would ever judge someone based solely on their looks, but you are rough. Hitting on guys half your age isn't that cute either.. it reeks of desperation. What are you going to do - go back to their parent's house and critique their decor? To each their own.
In the immortal words of Lainie Copicotto, "Fuck you, you fucking fuck." I've grown, advanced and made something with my life. Yes, I DJed an afterhours club - for 8 years, from opening to closing date. Did I ever ingest a single illegal substance during that time? No. I am not saying that I am better than anyone who has -- but to dismiss as being too into clublife and then turn into bar trash yourself seems to be some sort of justice.
Ok, I get it.. will you ever?

Great tech support story
This ranks up there with the "dumb terminal" story
I won't name the customer – but I was going over the Z60 update and when we finished the customer asked, "Why do you blame everything on your coworker?"
I wasn't sure how to respond, so I just asked what she meant.
"You seem to blame all the problems on your coworker named Dee."
I wasn't getting it and I apologized and said that I didn't understand.
"When we were going over everything, you kept saying everything was Dee's fault."
Maybe its my accent.. but it was all I could do to hold in my laughter when explaining what I meant by default.

DJ Ron Update - August 22nd
Current mood: tired
Los Angeles, Memphis, Amsterdam - a lot of great travel coming up in the next few months - but let's start with what's going on here in Nashville. This weekend, I am spinning at Play on Saturday night. Saturdays at Play are ALWAYS special nights and I am ready to give it to y'all something massive. Lots of great new remix videos and an energetic set - kicking off at 10pm and going all the way through to 2:45am. Get there early. It's a full night of Hi-NRG entertainment on the dance floor. If you are looking for the perfect warmup for Play, be sure to tune in to WRVU 91.1 FM as I will be doing an extended show. Starting the dance show at 4pm, who knows how late I will go. Also be sure to tune in to Out of the Closet, as we will be saying good bye to co-host Joyce Arnold. She has been an amazing part of the show - lining up all the guests and doing the interviews. She will be missed by all I wish her the best of luck in the future and hope that she will further her journalism career as she moves to Texas. Launch 3.0? What are these flyers I see? Shh... more about that next week. This week, I am insanely honored and proud to announce that I was invited by the Grammy Association to sit on the selection committee for the Dance/Electronica categorites. This is SUCH an amazing honor and I will do y'all proud and be sure to screen out the stuff that doesn't belong in our categories. I am going to Los Angeles at the end of September for a few days and am trying to line up some gigs while I am out there. Don't worry, I will be back in time for the Vandy Lambda Drag Show on September 27th. Speaking about going national, my inner press whore has bared his head and you can watch for the next issue of Club World magazine which will feature a first person narrative about my journey from DJ to laptop DJ to laptop VJ/visualist. The issue should be on newsstands in the next few weeks. The whole VJ/AVJ/Me-J discussion will be addressed in an article I am compiling for DJ Times which will be going to print in the very near future. I am also in discussions with Remix magazine for an article as well. Last week I mentioned the Atlantic City International DJ Expo. While my body is still off kilter from lack of sleep, I have managed to catch up and get all the photos posted on the about.com site and my personal djron.com site. Speaking about great pictures - what do you think of this great picture taken by local photographer Michael Tyler - the last Saturday night I spun at Play? Time for upcoming events: Tomorrow - Saturday, August 23rd Extended Remix 91 Dance / 91 Out of the Closet - (3pm-?pm) Listen to 91.1 FM or online at http://www.wrvu.org/Tomorrow - Saturday, August 23rd DJ Ron at Play

A dishy, bitchy blog
Current mood: working
Great headline, eh?
Got a few messages saying that my blogs have been way too professional - and not really me - that I need to let things out a bit. To be honest, I am actually in a really good place right now. Things are going incredibly well on just about every level - professionally, personally, dj, production, etc
If I were to bitch about something - it would be that tonight seems like psycho night.
Psycho 1 - Ok, I will admit it, I was a bit promiscuous when I was in college. No shock there. A guy I was intimate with my sophomore year - 1993 - gets in my face tonight - and is really agressive. In a really psycho kind of way. "I've always dreamt of you." "I want to have children with you." "I saved the condom from that night and its in my scrapbook." Woh.. this is weird. This is stalkerish.
Psycho 2 - He seems normal and wants to get to know me. I ask what he does for a living. He says "I'm a civil engineer, which is what you went to college for. You have a degree in civil engineering from Vanderbilt. I know a lot about you - you used to drive ... and live at ... and order .. at Shoneys. You used to do laundry at .. and .." Do you get where I am going? He knew way too much about me. Um.. this is weird. This is stalkerish.
Psycho 3 - Not really psycho, just stupid or not observant. Asks "Can you play some new Janet Jackson?" On the screen is "Rock With U." Um, excuse me?
With all that said - I know that I am blessed in some cosmic way to be an entertainer - playing music and video at clubs to make people happy. The occasional psycho doesn't put a damper on my outlook.
And I got some amazing news in the mail today.. more about that later :)
