WHAT THE HELL IS HAPPENING WITH REPO????
Ok - so I am starting to see rumblings on the web - "WHAT THE HELL IS UP WITH REPO?" We heard about his film YEARS ago - and still no release date - no trailer - NOTHING... First off - let me tell you I too feel your frustration. I wish it was out there for public consumption right now. But - sadly that is not the way it works. That being said - I have the advantage of knowing the release plan - and the next steps the movie is taking - so I can sleep a little easier at night.
Let me start off by dispelling some rumors.
THERE IS NO RELEASE DATE: There is a release date - and should be announced in the next couple of weeks.
THERE IS NO TRAILER: The trailer is AMAZING!!! Come to Comic Con and see it unleashed in all it's glory!
WE CAN'T HEAR ANY OF THE MUSIC: Starting in July we will start rolling tracks out for your listening pleasure!
THEY ARE NOT DOING ANY SCREENINGS: Come to Fantasia JULY 18th!!!!
As some of you may have heard Repo will be screening at the FANTASIA FILM FESTIVAL (http://www.fantasiafest.com/2008) - it is open to the public - so if you want your early sneak peek Friday JULY 18th is the day to do it.
This whole process has been hard on me as a filmmaker. I was so lucky with the SAW films - because I was shooting with a locked release date already on the calender - HALLOWEEN! This was the first movie I have worked on - where we went into it - without a locked release date. But matters were complicated more with REPO as it being a musical - we have to not only plan for the films release - but also the albums release. On top of that - REPO is not an easy film to market. It's a musical. A musical with PARIS HILTON, and SARAH BRIGHTMAN... People kill people... and then sing about it, and then dance around their dead bodies and sing some more.
But all the waiting - and wondering is about to come to a screeching halt. As of July the Repo train starts to take off. We will be at Fantasia in Montreal on Friday the 18th, the next week we will be at Comic Con (http://www.comic-con.org) and doing a panel on Thursday 07/24.
Some of you will LOVE Repo... Some will HATE it... I am just excited that soon you can make that decision for yourself.
Until next time, dlb www.repo-opera.com (check back July 1 for the new and improved site)

FEAR ITSELF TONIGHT
Tonight is the night... FEAR ITSELF debuts! Check your local listings and tune in 10pm on NBC.
I know there are some naysayers out there - HOW CAN HORROR exist on network TV? Tune in and you will see.
I myself wondered the exact same thing - and was terrified I was walking into a watered-down made-for-TV version of what 'they' think horror is. But FEAR not. This is not the case at all.
I have so far seen five of the episodes and they all indeed live up to the title.
People need to take them for what they are. This is NBC and not the theaters. So, NO you're not going to see the same style of violence that you would see in the SAW franchise, but that is not to say you won't see plenty of THE RED STUFF. In fact, I was more than a little surprised what I was able to get away with...
This is a HUGE step forward for horror. It starts with a seed and soon we have a FOREST. FEAR ITSELF is that seed - tune in tonight and let's show everyone that there is a huge market for MORE horror on TV, and elsewhere.

JESUS!!!!!!!
Just got back from seeing Jesus Christ Superstar - IN THE MOVIE THEATRE!!! For those of you that know me - or know anything about me... This is as CLOSE to perfect as my life ever gets. This music... this movie - HAS CHANGED my life...
I remember the first time I ever saw the film - I was so confused, so angry... "HOW WAS IT possible - that movies like this existed and I hadn’t known about them..."
I first saw it as a teenager. Freshman in highschool... Within a week I knew all the music... With in a month - I had the posters lining my room.
Now as an adult - I have strived to recreate that feeling I had watching JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR for the last 10 years.
Last night, for the first time ever - I got to see a REAL 35mm print of the movie... and I was as floored, and amazed some fifteen years later. After watching it, probably 300 times it still held up... still had the same impact as it did as a freshman in highschool.
There is something about musicals... Something magical... something familiar... I walked into the theatre - knowing every song... every breath, every character... It wasn’t like watching a movie - it was like being APART it.
Two weeks ago - when I was in Los Angeles, I went to a midnight screening of ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW with some friends.
It had been about ten years ago since I had seen RHPS in the theatre - and I forgot the madness that surrounded the film... Some 35 years after the fact - people still dress up, and come out at midnight - to see the movie with like minded people... All of whom could care two fucks what people thought of them... Sitting in the theatre - it became apparent - Rocky Horror, Jesus Christ Superstar, Tommy... These films weren’t just movies - - they were expierences... Something thats bigger than your average $5 matinee...
Music resinates with people, moves people... inspires people... We listen to music in our cars - when we work out, when were sad... When we go out and party... And the majority of people I know go to movies to escape... On a Friday night - with a date - when you are depressed... I think that is why musicals have always fascinated me... Combining two things I love... Two things that the majority of society LOVES... When musicals work, they WORK...
And so REPO was born... My homage to the films I loved... A chance to escape to a world different than our own... One of song, dance, and REPOSSESSIONS!
I can only hope, and pray that people view REPO as an experience... As it’s not your average $5 matinee. It’s an assault on your senses.
Seeing these two movies, in a theatre - reinforced why I have been fighting for this movie for last six years.
It kind of makes it all worth while!

REVIEWS - NEW WEBSITE - AND SONGS BEING RELEASED
Current mood: accomplished
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities
bloody disgusting Shock Till You Drop horror.com
I am so excited to see people really getting behind this movie!
As all of you know - it hasn't been an easy battle getting REPO made... Nor was it easy recording the sound track - or shooting the movie!!!
So why would now be any easier in post!
I just left Los Angeles last night - and headed back to Toronto to finish the film... We begin the final color correct this week - add in all the visual effects - and more importantly start the FINAL sound mix.
So, to fill everyone in - while in Los Angeles, we had various screenings for producers, cast members - test screenings, etc...
About seven critics, snuck in or talked their way into the screenings. Some of these critics were avid SAW haters, which terrified me. I have no doubt this is a movie that will divide people.
The reviews that came back were ultra positive!!! I have linked a couple.
As I have stated numerous times - I have been in love with this movie since the moment I read the stage play some six years ago. But to be able to start showing the movie and hearing other POSITIVE reviews makes all of this mean something!
I have a lot of exciting news that will be breaking in the upcoming weeks... INCLUDING the new - and improved REPO! THE GENETIC OPERA website! AND - I think it's finally time you all start hearing the music - so be on the lookout for REPO songs!
To quote Rotti Largo: "STAY TUNED FOLKS YOU DON'T WANT TO MOVE FOLKS CAUSE THERES MORE EXCITEMENT COMING!"

Repo moves to the NEXT stage - - DI!!!

This morning was the single most exciting part of the REPO post thus far... THE DI color grading for the film... I was finally able to dial in the look I want for REPO... There is a hyper stylized look I am trying to accomplish - and this morning I SAW it come to life!
So - I need to address why I haven't been updating on REPO for a while - and overall the STATUS of where we are at...
Last week I spoke with bloody-disgusting.com about the status of repo... Here is what was said...
"Repo - has turned out to be a MUCH bigger process than anyone first thought.... We have over 50 songs - on top of that, numerous jingles ? and score pieces ... Its taken a long time to compose - master, and mix. Also the visual effect process is growing in size - I started off having a vision of a couple visual effects here and there... Well lets cut to three months later - where a couple visual effects has turned into over 200 visual effects... Including set extensions, CGI elements, etc. Also, something I am excited about ? is the animation ? we have quite a bit of animation in the movie ? drawn by none other than TERRANCE ZDUNICH (who also plays one of the leads GRAVEROBBER and the writer) he couldn?t begin drawing until the movie was locked ? as a lot of what we was drawing was based on completed visual effects, etc
Long and short ? we are speeding along at a rapid pace trying to get this movie done, ? but, at the same time ?this is a movie that I have been fighting to get made for what seems like forever I want to do it right... This is my passion project ? and when it goes out to the world ? I want to be proud ?and not ?wish?, wish I had done this, wish I had shot that.
Thank God I have producers who have been so supportive and have let me take the time I need to finesse this film."
So hope that clears some stuff up... This film has become my life... my blood and tears going into it... I need to make sure EVERYTHING is not just right -- BUT PERFECT!!!!
Well, enough talking - back to coloring the movie!!!
More soon!

REPO MUSIC

I have said it once, and I shall say it again Darren Smith and Terrance Zdunich are musical geniuses! You know I love a movie when every scene is my favorite scene, and every song is my favorite song...
If you go to my homepage I have attached a non-song. (meaning it's not one of the 50 we count that make up the movie) it's like a transitional piece - - - score if you will... Every time I hear it it makes me smile... so hopefully it will brighten your day as well!!!!
More soon, dlb
