Oh Yes, You Love It - This Was the Cha Cha Cha Music Festival!
Current mood: accomplished
In answer to the mails I've had, the all day festival that we were running in Cassiobury Park in Watford was a blinding success! It was tied in with the annual Watcha Film Festival ( www.watchafilm.co.uk ) run by some friends of ours (which was also a roaring success this year) for which the theme was Music In Film.
Barney - the "brains" behind the operation... (*stiffles laugh*)
The weather was glorious (hot AND sunny...), people were smiling, beer was flowing and the music was great.
I got up at 8am (hangover in tow) to start lugging staging, amps, speakers and assorted sound equipment around.
lugging everything about...

Soundchecking...

Ever watched a band on the Other Stage at Glasto? This man is partly responsible for the sweet sounds that caress your ears while you sit swigging warm lager...

We were all set up and ready to go by about 11.30am - we were a bit nervous about what the turn out was going to be like, but fortunately people started turning up... ("book them and they will come...").

We had 10 acts squeezed on to the bill, each with a half hour slot, starting at 1pm through 'til the evening. All was going well until about 2pm at which point we received a complaint from a "local" resident (i.e. some miserable fucker who complains about everything - including a recent event in the park in aid of a cancer charity; what a kind hearted soul this dickhead is...)through the local council representative. Being that we had a festival licence granted through the council, and that the local licencing officer was in attendance at the event, we gave the him the preverbial "fuck you". Obviously not content with this he decided to call the police who turned up about half an hour later. Out pops the festival licence, the police are happy with the noise level and once more a big "fuck you very much" to the miserable bastard...
On with the music! Like Ritchie Havens at Woodstock, first up were the folky stylings of Ocelot...
Jeff came all the way from Canada...
 Acoustic duo Carly and Charlie...
Banks... like a cross between Jeff Buckley and Johnny Cash...

The New Shapes... (just released a new single on Pop Records - buy it...)

My band... Indiana (a bit knackered after getting everything set up, but still functional...)
The National Heroes...

Ahem... The Sweet and Dandy's - this was a one off thing put together by Barney (comprising of members of various bands) especially to tie in with the Watcha Film Festival; we were performing 7 songs from reggae legend, Jimmy Cliff's brilliant soundtrack/film "The Harder They Come". Yes, I am playing bass (and loving it: reggae is all about the roots and 5ths people...).

Special mention to these two talented young ladies who did an excellent job on backing vocals for the Jimmy Cliff set...

Harrison...

PhoenixDown...
All in all, a very successful day - so many people thanked us for putting the event on and everyone seemed to enjoy it. Thanks to everyone who came along - Café Cha Cha Cha actually sold out of every drop of booze on the premises - you rock beer monsters!
Rock 'n' Roll on next year!
