asshole?
Current mood: shocked
Category: Friends
Hi everyone.
Check out this message that one of my 'friends' here on myspace sent me today.
FYI, I don't often check my mesages as they are mostly spam.
However, the subject of this message being 'asshole', i decided to take a look.
The venom with which this 'friend' attacked me came as quite a surprise.
For anyone interested, I tracked back to see exactly what this guy was talking about and it turns out he sent me a message looking for a copy of a record I released back in 1999 in a quantity of 100. Even if I'd answered, I wouldn't have been able to help him.
Anyway, the message is below.
Cheers,
Donnacha.
" jesus, considering iv always actually spent money on ur music, and always "big you up" to everyone i know, the least u could have done was reply to my messages dickhead. i was making "minimal/reich/chatham/sonic youth/" influenced techno way back in 1996, ur nothing special. u were just lucky to know the right people at the right time. cya."
asshole.

Good Morning!
Current mood: hungry
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities
Good morning all.
As promised, for those interested, here is another semi regular blog installment.
Was up early today to look after the dog and have been listening to Frank Zappa all morning (if anyone out there wants to sell me a synclavier i would be very grateful!). FYI, the albums I've been listening to are 'Meets The Mothers Of Prevention" and "Make A Jazz Noise Here".
Currently contemplating breakfast. Anyone want to know my favourite breakfast food? Hamburgers. I've always wanted to do a record called "Burgers For Breakfast", that title has been knocking around for a few years now. It will get done eventually.
So, as I think I mentioned before, I'm working on a new album. I have until the end of May to finish and it looks like I'll get it done if I work very hard. I have about twelve beginnings/fragments/sketches so far and am working on more. A lot of people will be pretty shocked at the direction but I'll say no more about that.
I'm also working on another conceptual series which should have at least three parts and should also be released as a box set later this year. More about that as things progress but the concept has been through a little R&D and it seems like it will work.
I haven't been touring too much lately as I need time to work on the album. However, from the end of March things begin to heat up a little again, so I hope to see you out there somewhere. For those of you who might have come to see me in Madrid, I apologise for not performing. It's a long story and I'm not sure I want to share the details so I'll leave it at that. Sorry. To those who came to batofar in Paris, thanks, I had a great night! Such a strange venue. If you find yourself in Paris, I recomend you check it out.
I recently got rid of my tr-808 and tr-909. I wasn't using either of them at all. I was using the 909 a little but it just seemed to be pushing me in certain directions that I didn't really want to go in and the sound of the kick drum was annoying me. I think these machines have such strong personality that unless you're really careful they can end up imposing themselves a little too much. Anyway, they're gone. I'm sure I'll buy more at some stage (I've bought and sold half a dozen 808s and 909s over the last ten years or so) but for now I'm concentrating on other things.
In more equipment news, I bought a new guitar (gibson sg) so you can expect to hear that in one form or another on future relases. I'm also on the hunt for a synclavier of any configuration. I seem to have missed out on one that was available locally as I didn't act decisively or quickly enough or caused the vendor some sort of inconvenience or something. I don't really understand as he doesn't seem to be a huge fan of commmunication but I pretty much think he sold it to some swedish dude. Damn.
Oh, my trusty ibook g4 finally crapped out on me (most likely culprit being the logic board, according to the internet). Poop. Well, I did use it for about 14 hours every day since I bought it and it's been all the way around the world from detroit to tokyo so I guess I didn't do too badly. HD is backed up but it's still a pain to start with a new machine.
I am taking my "Driver's Theory Test" on Friday morning. I'm 32 years old and can't drive. Stupid, eh? Anyway, I have to pass that to get my provisional license (learner's license). Then I'll have about a month to learn to drive before I have to sit my full driving test! It has come up for mid-April. If you're Irish, you'll understand that if I don't sit this test I'll have to wait up to a year to get another one so I'm going to go for it. One month to learn how to drive with full competency? Of course I can! We'll see!
My friend Stevie Quinn is just about finished setting up his mastering studio (analogue studio dream wish fulfillment super fun luck time neverland I think it's called). Anyhow, he's just awaiting delivery of a custom, hand built compressor. In the meantime I think he' using a hired Neve or something. He's a very talented guy and a minor genius. He's already done a great job for some local bands but will be working globally via his upload/download service so if you're interested in having some work mastered by an audio guru drop me a line and I'll connect you.
The last two months on minimise have seen two well received debut 12"s by Cornell and Alejandro has just handed in his latest, so you'll hear that soon. Some surprise releases will follow that, followed by the conceptual releases I mentioned and then my new album so there's lots more to come from the label this year.
Ok, enough with the blogging already. Time for some hamburgers.
Thanks for reading!
Donnacha.

Hello Myspace Friends!
Current mood: busy
Category: Life
Hi everybody.
Thanks to the 1600 or so of you who have asked to be my friends so far, I really appreciate the support, it's really important to me!
I did not have too much to do with my 'Myspace' profile in 2006, a friend was mostly administering it, so many of you who sent me messages and were expecting a reply went disappointed. Sorry.
However, in 2007 I plan to take a more active role and try to lessen the distance between us, it is but a layer of pixels and a few thousand kilometres of wire after all :-)
To that end, I'll be posting blogs as often as I can and have also posted some personal pics of where I live, of my studio space, of my family and so on.
I'ver reduced my travel schedule for a few months (to allow me to work on some things). As you will guess from the photos, I like to be home. Yes, it's fun to be on the road but when I'm home I like my quiet life. Walks with my dog, my little routines, relaxing with my wife, making music. It's nice for me to have that to balance out the travel/performances. Once things kick back in I'm off to Mexico and Brazil, two places I've never been. This month I'll be in Madrid (15th) and Paris (23rd), so if you're from either of these cities, say hello!
In other news, I'm working on a new album. Don't expect techno though, at the moment it's very heavily influenced by Peter Gabriel, Kate Bush, Laurie Anderson, Weather Report and FSOL.
I've listed the gear in the studio pics but I think the 909 and 808 are about to be packed away or sold. Watch this space! I may also get rid of my jazzmutant lemur but I haven't decided yet.
We are in the process of trying to streamline the label operation, trying get our website back online and thinking about starting a second label. New records are available from our newest signing, Cornell. He's from Hungary and has a page on myspace too (see my top friends).
New records will also surface this year from Alejandro Lopez, me and more new artists. There will also be some very special re-releases but more about that at a later stage.
That's about all I can think of for the moment.
If you want to keep up to date, subscribe to the blog as it's the best way for me to keep in touch. I haven't yet worked out if it's possible to send messages to all friends simultaneously and this seems like a much easier way to do it.
Comments/Suggestions welcome.
See you out there soon!
Best,
Donnacha.
