Some errrr time
Been a while since I've posted a blog, been way too busy doing nothing and enjoying it. Doing nothing, and getting ready for the best summer ever.
As it stands I'm going to Malta on 01/07/07 for ten days with my dad and sisters, then off to Belgium for the Dour festival on 12/07/07 for four days, then jumping straight on a flight to Spain for Benicassim festival on 19-22/07/07. Stoked already.
In the meantime the folllowing things will help/have helped me fill my time:
1) Starbucks/Bex/Caffé "Bug on the Window" 2) Liddington/Bampton/Thorpe Park 3) Trash Crew 4) Getting into beef with security guards 5) 2-CB, K, E, LSD, CAS 405-41-4 6) Benders/being chemically imbalanced 7) Legally earning money 8) Reading festival/Field Day festival 9) Vodka Red Bull Bucket/Drinking in parks 10) Being a vigilante
Also thinking of starting a system of underground tunnels, hoping to start some kind of underground anarchist society one day. Message me to enroll.
Back to the real world. Me and Jung lost our DJ residency at No More Heroes. Our style doesn't fit the night apparently. This coming from the same management that booked DJ Dan. Maddest of props go to Rob Morgan (Rob the Mod) who gave us the initial break all those months ago. Proper nice guy who, despite the managements strongest efforts to turn the night into a walkabout-esque experience, is trying his hardest to retain a bit of integrity and soul at No More Heroes. He's done a lot for the night and brought so many good bands to Swindon. He'll hopefully carry on post Brunel (rumour is it's shutting down)
In a great example of one door shutting and another openeing, me & jung got a gig in Oxford last week for a night called Eclectric. Massive thanks for Marcus on that one. One of the nicest clubs I've ever been to, felt really welcome. Shout outs for tj, ben, and matt for adding to the friendly atmosphere. They're having a boat party next thursday, sounds like its gonna be a fucking hefty night. Have a look i reckon: http://oxford.facebook.com/event.php?eid=2368078915
Me and jung were on last, which was awesome. Matt and Ben played fucking stomping sets and had the crowd jumping all night. Definetly hard to follow, but other than a couple of sound problems at the begining of our set me and jung fucking killed it. The atmosphere was amazing. People were coming upto us and shaking our hands, asking for setlists and umm...for some reason asking me to play some kooks. After our final track people actually started cheering and clapping, chanting for one more song. Well good.
Thanks for everyone who came along, Swindon boys and Oxford crew. Mad night.
Me and jung recorded the set live, download and have a listen. Let it be the soundtrack to your next hour and ten minutes.

Anyone else going to Dour/Benicassim or travelling around Europe at that time? I was thinking of staying on the continent for a bit after Benicassim if anyone else is up for it? I'm up for travelling stupid distances to meet up with people. Let me know...

...it's a mix cd, he's still calling it a mixtape
my mix is here finally, almost lost it (and all my music) when my sister nearly killed off my laptop, but, like something involving a phoenix and some flames it's here.
its pretty much one and a quarter hours of electro ear rape. drop me a message if you want it in CD format. also gonna be making about 5 cassette tapes of it as well. let me know what you think
what a night. not as packed as i thought it would be, which was nice. about 7 hours of typical ed banger shenanigans ensued. justice killed it, specially when they dropped b.e.a.t. found it odd that feadz played out phantom before justice even went on though.
justice played 'into disco' by uzi suicide as well. fucking don. i put it in my blog a while ago, but i think the link has expired now. grab it if not.
Music
haven't really got any new music for you to checkout. this blog was only to plug my mix really. that being said the Lions At Your Door demo has been on repeat since i first heard it. reminds me of when i first heard the yeah yeah yeahs.
head over to bigstereo to check it out or just go on their myspace page:
you should check out DJ MSK as well. he's a nice guy and an awesome unsigned electro artist. he rolls with uzi suicide and the midnite blaster crew. the only way i can describe them is as a japanese ed banger.
he sent me some of his tracks but hasn't replied to whether or not i can blog them, so your just gonna have to listen to them on his myspace. worth it.
everyone is quick to jump on the unsigned bandwagon...but electro artists rarely get the same push, so go show him some love. same goes for everyone else that's unsigned in my 'top friends' list.
im DJing (possibly with chloé) on friday at brunel. come say hello, nice little band called the ripps will be making an appearence as well.
This is what it's all about. Looking foward to this so much. Anyone else that's going or is thinking about it; message me.
Here's a little something to get you in the mood. It's a sampler mix for Ed Rec Vol.2, which dropped a couple of weeks back. It's only about £8 and is worth every penny. Go buy.
Track Order: (Mr Oizo - Intra precedes every track)
1. Justice - Phantom 2. Busy P - Rainbow Man 3. SebastiAn - Greel 4. Mr Oizo - Intra 5. Uffie - Dismissed 6. DJ Mehdi - Lucky Girl 7. Feadz - Edwrecker 8. Vicarious Bliss - Limousine 9. So Me - Golden Skans To Interzone 10. Krazy Baldhead - Strings Of Death 11. Mr Flash - Eagle Eyez
Whilst still on the subject of Ed Banger Records, DJ Mehdi's new 'Luck Girl' EP was released the other day. Worthwhile investment, with don as fuck remixes from Surkin, Outlines and Thomas (half of Daft Punk) Bangalter.
Soooo, my (rather pointless) plan was to see 250 bands/acts this year. I slowly realised how dumb this was so have decided to make it 365 instead. That's one a day for the non mathematicians out there. Here's a few more I've seen recently, brings my total to somewhere around the 100 mark i think.
Ali B Atomic Hooligan The Black Ghosts Digitalism (Live) DJ Funk The Dolly Daggers Feadz Fortune Drive Friendly Fires Friends of the Bride Herve Hyper Kap Bambino Late of the Pier Lemon D Orgasmic Planning to Rock The Sigma Simian Mobile Disco (DJ set) Sinden Switch Tayo Uffie Xerox Teens Yuksek Zinc
Still haven't seen Ulterior.
Xerox Teens are awesome and give me the perfect opportunity to plug: They're playing Brunel Rooms, Swindon on May 25th with support from Bib, at the club me and my friend Jung DJ for, and we're warming up for them. Come along, tickets will be around the £5 mark.
Got a couple of remixes and edits that I'll be posting soon, along with a mix that I'm polishing off. Also, check out Jung's page for some of his mixes.
Check this video out as well. It's sexier than Jung.
The music is QueenOfWar - Oh Machine
She's on myspace (link) she is sexy and she makes dirty sex music. Take a look at the other acts in my ''Top 8'' as well when you have the time.
I leave you with a few tracks to check out. These mp3s are for evaluation only, they are lowered quality. If you like them, buy them.
Doesn't need a description really does it. One to get you salivating before the SMD album drops on June 18th. GO SEE THEIR FIRST EVER LIVE SHOW AT THE OXFORD ZODIAC ON THE 10th OF MAY. Please. SMD also have a Bugged Out Presents...Suck My Deck mix out on the 16th of April. Another good mix out on the same day is Spank Rock's contribution to the Fabriclive series.
Soulwax own up again. This is definetly bound to replace Standing In The Way Of Control as the easiest track to throw down if you wanna make those indie kids dance. Now that matey from Klaxons is seeing that Lovefoxxx bird from CSS, hopefully a collab is in the works, and even more hopefully, Soulwax will remix it.
The Whip are generating a lot of fuss and are definetly worth keeping your eye on. With a release on Southern Fried records, a track on both the always fashionable Kitsuné Maison Compilation and High Voltage Records Vol.2 aaand an appearance alongside Soulwax and DAFT PUNK at this year's Rock Ness, this manc band are definetly doing alright for themselves. Muzzle No.1 is their first single release. Altough backed by strong remixes and instrumentals by The Black Ghosts and Shadow Dancer, it's quite dissapointing that the Bloody Beetroots remix didnt make it onto the record. I like it. I like The Bloody Beetroots. Dirty filthy sexy electro.
In my last blog i raved on about how hefty 1971 was, but could only upload the Passions remix for you to download. Uzi Suicide (DJ Yan) is a fucking diamond. He uploaded a couple of his tracks to the net for me to download and said i can post them in my blog for you fuckers as well. Make the most of them. Download the tracks, buy them when they come out, add Uzi Suicide as a friend. You know it makes sense.
Anyways, a few more acts to add to my mission to see 250 this year:
Kavinsky Surkin SebastiAn DJ Mehdi
This was at the Ed Banger party for Kavinsky's new EP "1986". Even though Oizo and Justice couldn't make it, I gotta say this was quite possibly one of the best nights I've ever been to. Fucking insane. Ed Banger definetly know how to party.
Fabric tonight:
Switch Sinden Uffie (Live) DJ Funk (Dancemania) DJ Feadz Kissy Sellout Zinc Lemon D Bungle Macpherson Tayo Atomic Hooligan Hyper Ali B
Gonna be superb. Hopefully seeing JME, TTC, Kap Bambino, Ulterior and Radioclit on sat as well. Reading lineup's been released then. Stoked that Gogol Bordello got main stage haha you know that's gonna be hectic. Benacassim is gonna be hefty too.
Hip hop how it should be. From Ruff Draft, definetly a worthwhile investment. If anymore J Dilla gets released then Stones Throw is definetly cashing in. RIP
past few months i've had stupid fucking amounts of bad luck. luck changes though, hopefully mine will soon. had another massive peice of bad news again. i aint gonna tell anyone on the internet so dont ask...i'll tell you when i see you if i want you to know.
anyways... music.
seen a few more bands on my mission to see 250 this year:
Bands/Acts
7 Year Glitch Black Lips Ox.Eagle.Lion.Man Prinzhorn Dance School Ratattagg
DJs
Datacat Genuine Guy Kissy Sellout Nightmoves Phones South Central
Not gonna write a review for each band/dj...but phones was shit. Black lips, on the other hand, were fucking awesome live.
Samples the Rolling Stones. Fucking awesome track that was only available through a demo given away on Plan B's tour. Better than a lot of his album material.
Holy shit. This track is amazing. Uzi Suicide (aka DJ Yan) is a japanese DJ/producer, massively underrated. Go to his myspace, be his friend, buy anything he sells. I can't get hold of the original for you to download (listen to it on his myspace), but luckily The Passions (Kitsune) have done a don as fuck remix. I personally prefer the original. never mind.
Work in progress
