Review from NeverEndingWonder

After years of "Joni Mitchell" and "Jeff Buckley" comparisons (which I'm happy for, don't get me wrong), here's a truly original, maybe even insightful, comparison:
DUDLEY SAUNDERS - THE EMERGENCY LANE (Fang Records) "Dudley Saunders more closely resembles Jacques Brel or Edith Piaf than a modern singer/songwriter. That's not to say that his songs sound old fashioned- how could something titled "Love Song for Jeffrey Dahmer" be anything but thoroughly modern? No, it's the delicate precision with which each piece is drawn, the detailed look at a moment in time that remind me of Brel & Piaf. Additionally, the arrangements are equally delicate and precise. Saunders' quitar is leant substance by a seven piece band that includes unique instrumental touches from harmonium, strings, mandolin & dobro. Special mention must be given to producer/arranger Milo Decruz. He is completely in tune with Saunders and draws out the best qualities of each song. Saunders is extremely talented. I look forward to his future releases."
How about that one? It's from http://neverendingwonder.blogspot.com/

As requested, I've written out the chords and picking style for THE RAIN ON 8TH AVENUE (NOTE: There were mistakes on the first posting that have now been corrected here). You should be able to follow along with the recording.

It's my favorite track from THE EMERGENCY LANE, and probably my least radio-friendly. But it'll probably tell you all who I really am more than the easier tracks, so ...
Lyrics are posted too.

A Real Blog (finally) with a Real Purpose

I've caved in to the pressure and started a real blog - not here, though.
The blog chronicles the writing of my next album: NOVELSONGS. Every song will be inspired by -- you guessed it -- a novel. But it's how each novel intersects with my daily life in pre-apocalyptic (that's how it seems) Los Angeles that makes the difference for me and, I guess then, for the blog. I'll give you a portrait of our times, or at least try hard.
Here's where you go:

It's also syndicated on my website:

Take a quick look and see if it's interesting to you. XD
What do Los Angeles & the Netherlands have in common?

"Hi Dudley,
This Friday, March 28, KHZ Radio will play "Bina’s Radio" from your "The Emergency Lane" CD.
I’ve also posted the play list, including you on my blog at MySpace,com/KHZRadio.
"KHZ Radio with Carolyn Fox" is heard at midnight Fridays over a powerful 50,000 watt signal at 1580 in Los Angeles. The show will also play in heavy rotation in Washington DC and Baltimore on 810 AM, and on 1590 AM in Ocean City. In addition, the show will stream on KHZTV.
I didn't mean to watch it, then I meant to just watch for five minutes, and then it was over and I'd watched it all. Why is it that, after watching Hillary do everything she shouldn't do - be combative, unsmiling, pushy, avoid her "inspiring" side - I come away liking her more? (I also liked him more in some ways and less in others -- first time I saw him play "politics as usual" by distorting her record (the way, admittedly, she has his).) Maybe it's because I've spent time in my life going unrecognized and pushed aside by press-annointed golden boys-n-girls, but something about her refusal to take it all "gracefully," to be willing to make noise at the unfairness, somehow appealed to me.
Of course, Obama will win, and I'll vote for him in November. And as an old grassroots-organizer, I'll feel good that "one of us" is getting in there. But I don't know if I'll ever have any real affection for him. Maybe any kind of "star" just can't get that kind of hold on my heart, and maybe that's only because they don't need me.
