Tesco's have announced annual figures today with sales of £51 billion
By my reckoning this is the same, or higher than the GDP of the following countries (at current straight exchange rate not PPP)
Malaysia Singapore Czech Republic Venezuela Hungary Egypt Philippines Colombia New Zealand Chile United Arab Emirates Pakistan Algeria Peru Romania Bangladesh Nigeria Ukraine Morocco Vietnam Kuwait Slovakia Kazakhstan Croatia Ecuador Slovenia Luxembourg Guatemala Tunisia Syria Oman Bulgaria Serbia and Montenegro Libya Lebanon Sri Lanka Lithuania Sudan Belarus Costa Rica Qatar Dominican Republic El Salvador Kenya C d'Ivoire Angola Panama Cameroon Cyprus Uruguay Yemen Iceland Trinidad and Tobago Uzbekistan Tanzania Jordan Latvia Estonia Zimbabwe Bolivia Jamaica Bahrain Ghana Botswana Azerbaijan Honduras Bosnia and Herzegovina Ethiopia Senegal Uganda Albania Turkmenistan Nepal Paraguay Gabon Congo, Dem. PS .. if this sounds implausible ... well i thought so too
I'd forgotten that i'd made this video some time ago. it uses the structure for evening prayer from the Methodist worship book. why not set aside some time this evening to watch it and pray through the words? it only takes 12mins 47sec to watch!
I have had the very great pleasure this year of leading the Covenant service in all of the Churches in the section of the circuit that i look after.
it really is a beautiful service. i was also able to lead the service at the Anglican church at Grange where the vicar who i was sharing the service with described it as the jewel of the Methodist Church
i know not everyone who reads this blog is a Methodist so you may not get the chance to formally say the prayer each year like we do.
for that reason i have decided to reproduce the text of the prayer here so that you can consider it and then hopefully pray it.
be aware, however, that it is a prayer that requires action. It is a prayer of commitment that should sit at the heart of who we are
The Covenant Prayer
I am no longer my own but yours. Put me to what you will, rank me with whom you will; put me to doing, put me to suffering; let me be employed for you or laid aside for you, exalted for you or brought low for you; let me be full, let me be empty, let me have all things, let me have nothing; I freely and wholeheartedly yield all things to your pleasure and disposal.
And now, glorious and blessed God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, you are mine and I am yours. So be it. And the covenant made on earth, let it be ratified in heaven. Amen.
