11:52 AM - Samurai Jack: Season 1 Review

Review by: Nortallica

Unfortunately for myself I missed out on the buzz of Samurai Jack when he and his cartoon first jumped onto the scene back in my younger days, bereft of the necessary channel required to watch him, I had very little chance to watch the show, although managed to catch the credits roll once at a mates place. And lo and behold many years later I am given the chance to review the series thanks to Madman Entertainment releasing it in the Region 4 Format, the real question . . . Was it worth the wait? Follow me to the end of this review, and we shall see.

The visuals of Samurai Jack appear in a style, which has almost become synonymous with cartoons featured on the Cartoon Network, although unlike most toons of late, and yesteryear, that rely on outlines to define characters from scenery, Samurai Jack is for the most part outline free, admittedly I didn't notice this till after I did a little research on the series, but it gives it a certain fluidity and character that a lot of boldly outlined toons seem to lack (although in all fairness there is nothing wrong with outlined cartoons)....[Read More]

08:46 AM - Space Ghost Coast To Coast: Season 2 Review

Review by: Wizard Of Gore

Like many other Adult Swim shows, Space Ghost Coast to Coast is a show that  uses old Hanna Barbera characters, this time from the show Space Ghost and Dino Boy which aired in the 60s. Space Ghost Coast to Coast is essentially a  parodist talk show, yet it neglects every formulaic  talk show quality. The main characters consist of the host- Space Ghost (real name Tad Ghostal) SG is very egotistical and childlike, and often taunts, harasses or flat out ignores his guests.  Then there is Zorak, a praying mantis who constantly changes colour and hates Space Ghost, he is extremely evil and is one of the most fun characters on the show. And finally, Moltar: the show's director and producer, while he doesn't seem to suffer from too many personality dysfunctions, his lack of enthusiasm for his job is evident.

Ok, that out of the way…every episode has a famous guest appearance. Apart from these guest appearances there is always something going on in the SG headquarters be it  characters from other shows dropping in or  Zorak planning SG's downfall. Ok ok, so you want to know who the guests are? Well on season two some of the guests are: Matt Groening, Ben Folds, Dave Grohl, James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett, Elvira, Method Man, Carrot Top, Penn and Teller...[Read More]

08:45 AM - Death Note: The Last Name Review

Review by: Dawnrazor

Picking up right where the first Death Note ends, the sequel wastes no time in launching into the action with Misa Amane, (Erika Toda), using the Death Note she got at the end of the first film to stage an impressive show of her powers and support for the owner of the original notebook. Holding a television station hostage and killing off crowd members who voice objection to her message. This gets things off to a tense and thrilling start and sets the tone for the film.

Much more complex and complicated than the first, this film expands the cast considerably with characters ranging from a ruthlessly ambitious newswoman to another couple of Death Gods. But the main focus is still on Light and L and their cat and mouse games. With Light now a member of the taskforce hunting "Kira" those games becomes much more edgy and high stakes than in the first film....[Read More]

07:40 AM - Dawn Of The Dead (1978)

Review by: zer0hal0

In 1968  Director George A. Romero created one of the most unforgettable zombie movies of all time, this film was called Night of the Living Dead. This film did not only terrify and shock its audience but it also happened to set of a chain reaction allowing other filmmakers to begin jumping onboard the zombie bandwagon after Romero forgot to copyright his film. Due to a fall out with a movie company called Image Ten, this landed the movie into the public domain section. 10 years later this amazing director decided to send a second lot of chills up our spines by creating a sequel to Night of the Living Dead, this movie is called Dawn of the Dead (1978). This time around the movie was shot in colour and teamed up once again with special effects artist Tom Savini (who also worked on Romero's Martin back in 1977) and created another unforgettable zombie masterpiece. After playing in theatres across America with Dawn of the Dead only having a budget of only $650,000, Romero was able to gross $55,000,000 worldwide. Horror fans went into a gorehound frenzy, with special effects being so far out of this world, and watching for the first time zombies taking over the world and ripping apart helpless victims limb by limb. Even 26 Years later, Dawn of the Dead has managed to land in the remake list where director Zack Synder decided to pay his respect to the legendary director and nilly out doing the Romero by spicing up the storyline, changing the zombies from slow walking pace to fast sprinters and amazing CGI special effects...[Read More]

07:54 PM - Re-Penetrator (2004)

Review by: zer0hal0

Burning Angel Entertainment releases another horror movie porn spoof of one of the most loved and well known horror movies from the 80s: its H.P Lovecraft's Re-Animator. But in the porn community as you already might know, they tend to change the title of the movie and make sound more erotic. So guys and gals, prepare yourselves for a review called Re-Penetrator by Doug Sakmann.

Re-Penetrator begins with a mad evil scientist named Dr. Hubert Breast (Tommy Pistol) who is trying to reanimate a dead stripper's corpse (Joanna Angel) back to life by inserting his secret serum into her vagina. Hoping that his serum will work, he can then make her become his very own sex slave, submitting her to every sexual desire he has every dreamt about. But resurrecting the dead does comes with its cost, as the doc soon runs out of his own juice, she isn't satisfied enough and decides to give the Doc a special zombie tune up I guess you can say...[Read More]

Its 3:07am and a middle aged prostitute named Kelly (Lorraine Stanley) and a twelve year old girl named Joanne (Georgia Groome) come barging into an old rundown public toilet. Kelly, who has a swollen black eye and busted lip, is trying to calm down young frantic Joanne from crying, while trying to wipe away the make-up from her face and the smudge lipstick from her cheeks. 07:17 AM - The Beast In Space Review

Review by: zer0hal0

The Beast In Space begins with Captain Larry Madison (Vassili Karis) entering a bar to have a few drinks and hoping to enjoy the company of a nice looking woman for the evening. As he scouts the room, he notices a beautiful woman sitting by herself on the couch: they make eye contact, but he decides to play it smooth by walking straight to the bar and begins to order himself a bottle of Uranus milk. When returning from the bar he notices a drunken Merchant slob has cock blocked him, so being a uniform officer the Captain decides to teach him a lesson and gives him the old one, two and three on the chin which lays the man out stone cold. As he moves in for the kill, Larry begins to introduce himself to Sondra (Sirpa Lane) while kicking back and enjoying a few quiet drinks right before she invites herself back to his pad so she can teach a move or two. After a few hours later of love making, Sondra falls asleep in Larry's arms and soon awakens screaming in fear, which awakens Larry, Sondra begins to tell Larry about her bizarre recurring dream where she is running though a forest on a strange planet, towards an abandoned castle, and soon finds herself being forced to have sex with a man she doesn't know....[Read More]

07:12 AM - Death Note Review

Review by: Dawnrazor

Imagine a notebook, one in which you could write a person's name and how you wanted them to die then sit back and wait for it to happen. Now imagine that notebook in the hands of a Japanese student. That's the basic premise of Death Note which has gone from manga to anime to the live action feature I'm reviewing here.

I really wasn't expecting a lot going into this, given the basic plot it sounded like pretty generic teen horror, (and I'm sure the inevitable Hollywood remake will be), but Death Note is surprisingly mature and deep in its themes. Central to it all is the idea of the effect power has on a person and how far they will go to achieve their goals. When Light Yagami, (Tatsuya Fujiwara), finds the Death Note he plans to use it to rid the world of criminals. But when his activities attract the attention of law enforcement he's forced to make some hard choices on who he will wield his power against.

Further complicating this is his father Souichiro, (Takeshi Kaga) who is the chief of police and the case attracts the attention of the brilliant but reclusive detective known as L, (Ken'ichi Matsuyama) and the FBI. And then there's the Death God himself who decides to hang out with Light and see how he uses his new toy....[Read More]

07:10 AM - The Evilmaker & Abomination: Evilmaker II Review

Review by: Dawnrazor

The Evilmaker

Serena, (Stephanie Beaton), bails out of an abusive marriage and heads back home to get her life back together. She hooks up with 3 girlfriends from high school for a trip to the beach. Of course, this being a horror film the van breaks down and they end up stranded in a deserted house…a house occupied by a malevolent and pissed off spirit.

I know this sounds about as clichéd as it gets, but writer/director John Bowker takes the set up and heads off in some interesting directions. The story is filled with flashbacks, often of the same scene, revealing more info each time. The downside to flashbacks is of course they tend to give away where the plot is going, but even this is given a twist and used to misdirect the viewer. Like many of the film's events, you're never sure what memories are real and what are demonically induced....[Read More]

07:07 AM - Transformers: Headmasters Review

Review by: Nortallica

The eighties bought us many varied and phenomenal things. Freddy Krueger, Metallica, and myself for example. But beneath the surface, fuelled by the obsessions of childhood wonder, something else was brewing. Whilst the adolescents, and adults were stewing with what this decade had to offer them, the younger of us,  were privy to some things that would offer us a separation from the rest of Generation Y, and garner us our own title as "The children of the eighties".

Fun fact: The 1986 animated Transformer movie didn't air in Japan till after season three (which follows AFTER the movie), so Japan created an episode to bridge the gap between season 2 and season 3, called "Scramble City".

This revolution came in the form of cartoons, which went on to become classics in the minds of the then youngsters, and even capturing the hearts of selected adults at the time. GI Joe, My Little Pony, Jem, MASK, Thundercats and He-Man (and sister show She-Ra) were amongst the headliners, but amongst them was a show that unlike the rest, would never leave the limelight in one way or another. Transformers, the American fictional tale based upon Japanese toy lines Diaclone and Microman, would gash out such a place in history that since its evolution from Takara's original toys, to the character laden "Transformers" (courtesy of Hasbro), has been in consistent and constant production since 1984, whether it was Hasbro or Takara taking the lead at the time, not a year has passed without Transformers...[Read More]

07:05 AM - Let Us Prey - The Nunsploitation Collection Review

Review by: Wizard Of Gore

The Marquis De Sade's Justine (1977)

Here is yet another of the various exploitation flicks based on De Sade's Justine (the best of which are credited to the prolific Jess Franco). This one is an English production starring Koo Stark, onetime girlfriend of Prince Andrew.

Set sometime in 18th Century England, two sisters, 16-year-old Justine and 17-year-old Juliette, are expelled from their convent school after they are orphaned and can no longer afford the fees. Juliette comes up with the brilliant idea of going to the London whorehouse where their cousin works and learning the "tricks of the trade", regardless of the fact they are both still virgins.

At the whorehouse the older and more worldly Juliette gets on fine and embraces the brothel lifestyle while the naïve & innocent Justine can't handle it and runs away back to the convent, into Pastor John's welcoming arms. Although, after the good Pastor has had a few wines he can no longer contain his lecherous urges and attempts to rape poor, pure Justine. Luckily she escapes with her virginity intact but Pastor John ends up dead and she is now wanted for murder...[Read More]
