Song Notes - Come Home and Crazy World

More live versions which are really quiet!  This version of Crazy World was the first outing for me and Rowan Armes to sing it live, and it came out surprisingly well.  It's a fun song to sing, despite its dark content.

Hope you enjoy!

Jam - the fruit kind.

Last week I drew a picture of a jar of jam, and it made me very happy.  Perhaps life is simple after all...  The strawberries are over but it's blackberry time - if you can get out there in between the showers/downpours/floods.

"As fruit is flown in from around the world, heating up the globe and confusing our seasonal senses, there is something deliciously revolutionary - and yet comfortingly domestic - about preserving...." More jam-related ramblings (including my new favourite drawing) at www.eirlysrhiannon.com/jam.html

On the same theme, the first ever Jam Recipe Exchange Night will take place this week on Thursday 26 July 2007, 8pm-11pm, at Cafe Kino (3 Ninetree Hill, Bristol - just off Stokes Croft).  The exchange of jam-related recipes will have musical support from myself, and also from a new four-piece, The Dearlings.

"Revel in the joyful fruitfulness of the summer - and get ready to bottle it up for the winter!  Bring recipes, books to share for the evening, samples for tasting and as much curiosity as you dare..."  (Also available will be Cafe Kino's inimitable cake, muffins, and organic/ethical hot and cold beverages.)

Song Notes - Packer's Field

This version of Packer's Field was recorded live at Highrise Performers in Greenbank on 31 March 2007 (with big thanks to Ian Popperwell). You'll find it's a quiet recording, but I hope it's worth a listen.  It was the first outing of the song with Rowan's parts - her fiddle and voice sound beautiful.

When I wrote the song last September, its working title was 'Fences'.  The title evolved, since the main subject of the song was Packer's Field itself, but as for many other people, the battles over the local playing field were never just about that one place.

The full lyrics can be found on my main website www.eirlysrhiannon.com.lyrics. You can find out more about Packer's Field and the recent battles over it at www.packersfield.org.uk
