Current mood: stoked
12/11/07 No, we still have girlfriends STUPID! We are going to be putting up selections from our obscenely large back catalog every two weeks. The first week, the songs will be free to download and after that, you can purchase them through our SNOCAP page located on this here myspace. If you have any requests, or ideas, let us know. We're way open to that! The first set consists of 2 covers. One is a HUSKER DU song called "Don't Wanna Know If You Are Lonely" and the other is a Burth Bacharach by way of LOVE cover of "Little Red Book" with guest voclas by Joe Nolte from THE LAST! Enjoy them while they're around....And then pay for them!
Thanks!
E>K>U and K
12/18/07 Singles Club Vol.2 The Rules/Not All Mine THE RULES was originally recorded for the ill fated "Pop Tape." Four songs that were recorded on a Tascam four track, and were never intended to touch any digital media... Alas this is a digital world, and I am a digital girl....So it was re-recorded during sessions for what is to be an E>K>U>K album, or so we tell ourselves. I think it came out pretty good! NOT ALL MINE was recorded during the sessions for Auto Exploder in a giant airplane sized garage in Lomita... You wouldn't believe how big the garage actually is if I told you. But you can hear it in the drums, it was out of control. This song is about trying not to want what you know you do want... Does that make any sense? Anyway I think its a good song, but at the time we thought it was too wimpy for the sonic onslaught that is Auto Exploder. Maybe we were wrong.... Only history can tell. -Jonathan 01/07/08 Singles Club Vol.3 Good Breakfast/My Time Good Breakfast Was originally written to go on a 7" for Gearhead records. It was written quickly and without much thought, so its not hard to see why Gearhead passed on it. We just wanted it to be intense, and intense it was. Its about my life in elementary school, where I was in my first band "The Mustangs." I played trumpet, and all we could play is Louie Louie...I later moved guitar. My Time was inspired by my favorite Melt Banana song.... Inspired? Shall i say ripped off? Anyway, the song's got sex appeal. And there are people out there that still beg us to play it at every single show we play! THIS IS FOR YOU!!! ;) -Jonathan
01/15/08 Singles Club Vol.4 Honey Bear/White Lace And Strange
Honey Bear is one of the few songs in this series that was actually released!!! More than that it was actually put on a vinyl 7". Witch of course is long out of print and so it winds up here on a fake 7" for you to enjoy all over again! In fact it was recorded for a split 7" with Maxwell Demon for our Joint west coast tour. Both songs we're recorded on the same day and strangely enough had a very similar rhythm... I have no idea what the hell this song is about but I can tell you that in order to sing this song I had to chug an entire container of honey cause I had been screaming so much. Hence the title... Simpler Times
White Lace and Strange was a cover that was originally written and recorded by a 60s Garage band called Thunder & Roses... To this day I've never heard that version... I first heard it on Nirvana rarities bootleg that I acquired during my infatuation with the band. Funny thing is when we decided to cover it, we (me and joe) didn't tell Sean that it was a Nirvana cover... (sorta let him believe it was our song [sorry Sean]) Anyway when the Nirvana box set came out and Sean heard "our song" playing over the speakers at Tower records with Kurt Cobain Singing. Needless to say I got an angry phone call. "Dude, what the Fuck?" Thanks for putting up with us Sean... Also i should note that I did the vocal take for this song yesterday. I STILL GOT IT! -Jonathan
01/29/08 Singles Club Vol.5 The EKUK Kontroversy You may or may not know this but our favorite band collectively may be The Kinks. For that reason, Vol. 5 is a collection of...Kinks tunes that we've covered over the years. We did Australia about 2 years ago when we got a record deal with an Australian Label. We were pretty exited, no one had ever offered to pay us to do anything much less put out our record. So we licensed Auto Exploder to them and dreams of being famous in the land down under danced through our heads. A while later I got a call from the promotion company that our "label" was working with. Seems Our label was not paying them. "Oh god, here we go" The guy running the label pretty much took the money and ran. We also found out that he was a notorious flake and that he was being brought up on fraud charges! In the end we did get 50 extra copies of Auto Exploder to sell to people that wanted it... And apparently we received a little air play Down under so all in all the experience wasn't all bad. (Thank you Josolyn!) Live and learn!
'Till The End Of The Day was recorded Live at the Hermosa Solon. This was the night we did a 60's set with none other than our good friend Joe Nolte. Thats him on vocals and guitar. He had come to a show of ours a month earlier. After we played we were telling him that at our next show we had to play for 3 hours. Which, after our usual set, we'd still have to kill about 2 and a half hours! Joking (kinda) I mentioned that he should come up and sing some 60's songs with us! To my surprise he said he'd love to. We picked the songs from our trusted Nuggets box set, and that was that. I think we got about 3 practices for this and the show was a blast!
Tired Of Waiting was recorded live acoustic in studio. We were doing sets of acoustic songs at Suzy's in Hermosa Beach every week and we had a new CD of Acoustic recordings. Kind of a Pearl Jam thing...I think this was from "Acoustic Boogaloo 2" or something like that. Yes, thats Avi on backups. Hey man hows it going?
Set Me Free is from the pop tape so it really should not be on here... However it is a Kinks song so here it is! - Jonathan
Hey, Sean here...So after getting tired of being compared to Nirvana, I gave each guy a mix of my fav Kinks songs...They loved it and since then, it's been the band consensus. I think that's the only band I've showed them that they ALL agree on.... With Australia, that was me playing along with the record (literally!) as I tracked the drums. Jon just did EVERYTHING else. Thats was when we did "afternoon delight" recording sessions! Quite fun. 'Til the End of the Day was a show mainstay. For a year, we played that quite a bit. We ended up recording a version of it, but it sounded too "Now". I think a live recording seems a bit more appropriate. That, and Joe Nolte sang it! I think we did a Yardbirds, a Zombies, Warner Brothers, The Sonics and The Who that night....I was in heaven! Tired of Waiting was recorded before the Kinks obsession. Those acoustic nights were fun. I thnk we only about 3 or 4 though..Back then we only had, like, 8 songs. Set Me Free was the "bring the show down a bit" song we'd play once in awhile. Our shows tended to be a bit crazy sometimes and we figured we'd "slow it down a bit" with this cover. I liked the way it turned out. Sean.....
02/05/08 Singles Club Vol. 6 Forget It/Big Deal/Black Cats Bones Hurray for Auto Exploder outtakes!!! "Forget It" was an instrumental song that was meant to be the opener on Auto Exploder. I think it has a great vibe. It makes me want to take a walk. It's also the only song in the session that was recorded COMPLETELY live. How it sounds is exactly how we played it live! Of course we only played it a few times. "Big Deal" ... Sean? "Black Cats Bones" was kind of a concept song. Ray plays the part of a desperate man that would trade his soul to the devil in order end the turmoil in his life. In the second half, I play the part of the seemingly compassionate devil, who "warns" him about what he's asking. The song de-evolves into a 6 minute noise jam that I sorta saw as a decent into hell. A worthy way to end an album, right? Unfortunately, I had to cut out about 4 minutes of the end so that myspace would accept it. So those of you that want to hear that will just have to wait for the hard copy to come out!
Sean here..... "Forget It"- Joe once said it reminded him of a Hip-Hop song...Public Enemy and Anthrax maybe. Jon's right though..It is a walker. Reminds me of "Two Of Us" played by....The devil? Which brings me to "Black Cat's Bones". I remember the night we did the vocal tracks. In true Jon and Ray fashion back then, the words were NEVER written until we recorded. So, the four of us brainstormed this story about selling your soul. We stayed in the studio pretty late. It reminds me a bit of Alice In Chains. But, thats ok with me..... "Big Deal"- Jon? I think this was the second "song" we ever wrote. It's riff-tastic! I really do still love some of this old stuff. I miss the angst.......I'm gonna go pick a fight!
02/12/08 Singles Club Vol. 7 Quiet/Girl You Know
Quiet was a song we had a lot of trouble with. We just couldn't figure out what it wanted to be. It started in a completely different place then it ended up. Then when it got to where it was going we it was so far from its inspiration that it just wasn't exiting to us (most of us) any more. This is just one of the many songs that me and Joe never wanted to play, but Sean and Ray would have played it anytime. This song is about a child hood home thats no longer a place of comfort... More like a haunted house. Girl, You Know is one song that at some point we all agreed never to play again. I don't know what it is about it, but it stirred up such hatred... I still kinda think it was a good song... but we just don't really go there. Make your own judgement.
Sean here.... "Quiet"- Ohh Jon...Such ying and yang we are.....Quiet was cool because I thought we were kinda locking into a different groove. It wasnt too balls to the walls or anything..It just kinda moooved. I suppose it was a Kinks/Zutons throwaway...I think maybe we thought too much about the middle section, which came out kinda crazy and inappropriate. With a little extra care, it coulda been a "hit". Shit, I'm gonna listen to it now...... "Girl, You Know" - It kinda reminded me of Nirvana..I should just shut up about them now...I liked the dark vibe it had, regardless of the lyrics in the chorus. That's all I gotta say about that.... Sean
02/19/08 Singles Club Vol. 8 Slaughter Party/KKK Took My Baby Away
Sean here.... "Slaughter Party" was the theme song to a film of the same name....Don't believe me??? Then get really drunk, NETFLIX "Slaughter Party" and tell us how it is...We haven't seen it yet..We're scared! Ohh yeah, Ron Jeremy is in it..... "KKK Took My Baby Away" Remember the Red Onions?? Well, their drummer, Jorge, had a zine called "Musique Automatique". This cover of the Ramones classic was on a CDR compliation of ALL cover songs with bands all around LA and California. There were some great covers. Ours was "obvious" I guess, but whatever! I think it sounds good!!!
03/04/08 Singles Club Vol. 9 Wait/If I needed Someone
These songs where recorded during some of the last sessions we ever did. Why did we record Beatles covers? Well....... When ever we where hurting for cash because say, We had to put a new transmission in the van. Or we had to put out an EP or go to Texas for some god awful reason. Every time we would need a little monetary lift we'd book a few "bar shows." Cause we could bring a crowd that wanted to drink! (thank all of you whom we made alcoholics of!) The place that gave us the biggest "lift" on a regular basis was The Hermosa Saloon. Of course if we wanted to get said "lift" we'd have to play for something close to 3 hours. And although (clearly) we have enough original material to pull of such a feet, we kinda wanted to give everyone a treat for supporting. That or we used cheep gimmicks to increase our crowd ... Whatever the case it resulted in so truly amazing evenings: 60s set with Joe Nolte, Misfits halloween night, and who could forget "Two Buck Chuck." Anyway we booked one of these shows and the idea came up that we should cover an album in its entirety. Well...It might as well be a Beatles album right? How about "Abby Road" Oh hell no... How about Rubber Soul? Lets do it!!! So we worked really hard to learn all the songs and practice them. But when time came to perform them we where admittedly a little under practiced. So if you asked me it was, alright ... I believe I gave it a C+ Not bad for learning an entire album in three weeks time. So anyway everyone got drunk and we played into the night and it was pretty fun ... Vol. 9 is made up of the two songs that came out best in the set. Wait and If I Needed Someone. HAZA!!! -Jonathan

Live Earf
Category: Music
Don't ask me why the hell I'm watching Live Earth right now...but somehow seeing Keith Urban and Alicia Keys sing one of my least favorite Rolling Stones songs doesn't inspire me to want to keep the human race alive...And how dose me texting my name to verizon so that it'll show up on a scrolling ticker at the bottom of the screen help save the glaciers...Don't get me wrong, I've got the energy efficient light bulbs, and I believe we're destroying the world, but these people are so full of shit. Hey Konye wasn't that your Escalade, and Bently, and other Escalade I saw on Cribs??? Do those things run on bio diesel? Chris Rock is awesome. But don't get me started on Madonna I'm pretty sure her music qualifies as a greenhouse gas. Ehh I think I'm gonna go play a drinking game now. I'll take a drink every time Anthony Kiedis hits a flat note. Hold my calls cancel all my appointments, its gonna be a long night! -Jonathan
P.S. Dave Grohl, why have you forsaken me?

Category: Music
Hi and thanks to every one who came out to the Saloon last night and made it a packed house! Over all, we give ourselves a C- on the performance of Rubber Soul, but that's ok cause we really pushed our boundaries in doing it, and learned a lot! Anyway its time to look forward! Next week will be the first (of which we hope there will be many) show at the Japanese convenient store Famima!! in Torrance. We'd really like every one to come out and support cause if it goes well, we're gonna be doing it a lot more. We're playing with some good friends of ours from no cal Bright Light Fever, and of course south bay locals The Stiffness! Its gonna be a blast, and its all ages.
We have a few shows next month then we're gonna take a little show break so we can concentrate on new songs and, if all goes well record an album! (I know...its about time) any way I hope to do a little more of this bloging, so you'll be hearing from me very soon. Thanks! –Jonathan
